I had a similair problem with mine. One of the wheels bulges out at the side. I never had it replaced. It doesn't seem to matter.

Riser pads

Lawless,no geometry theoroms needed here, although belt sanders do work quite well,to figure this out.The size difference from 70mm to 65mm is 1/4",and half of that is all the riser you need.Wheel shape is more likely to cause rub than this difference in size(centered bearings /flatbacked wheels),but 1/8" more riser should do it.

Heres my formula for risers. Wheelsize(in mm)-existing wheelwell(depth in plys)+Randles /wheelbite +beltsander x as many times as it takes until the wheels no longer rub + spray laquer = one excellent carving board.

Here's my formula for determining minimum riser height: {(x-50)/2}.4= min. height in inches x=wheel diameter

Moe Speed has been making and selling high quality adapters that enable you to add two extra wheels to each truck, on a skateboard this would equal 8.

I've gotten my bombers from solid skate about a week ago and I must say these suckers slide!!! I really only used a 78a wheel and these wheels are 85a so it's what I pretty much expected. I was alittle concerning that these wheels might get hung up in cracks and pebbles but I really haven't had a problem with that. They aren't a grippy as my kryptos (what I also expected) but I can still carve pretty hard without sliding out. If you want a good all around wheel that can slide easily than check these babies out. Oh yeah, Bones now has a new longboard wheel out called the cruiser, it is 65mm, and comes in 90a,86a,and 80a. Later all.

Hey fuzz, you must be a little thinner than I am, because I am able to slow cruise the 74's with great success.
You are right on the money on their being at their best on the fast carving. I have had them slide a bit on the real hard carves. You know the kind... turn hard and live, miss the turn, hit the curb and die! So far they have always let me make the turn! HR

The 74 Aluminators...real nice! Once you've broken these babies in, you're in for a truly sexual experience! Slides are'nt really an option (allthough I can swing the tail of my stick out on backhand railgrab powerslides - but admittedly, this can be a bit sketchy - see 'CRASHING', I got pitched after sliding 82's, changing rubber and then 'trying' to slide the 74's at speed...never again!), but the 74's true appeal is in the grip...you can really trust in them at 35mph+ throwing real deep hand down carves. These are wheels for the more high-speed carver...not a 'cruising' wheel in my opinion.
ON THE CASE... FUZZ xxx

Exkate wheels

That's exactly the reason I lover my Exkate wheels: They are heavy, fat and juicy, so they keep their speed.
It's true that Sector9 wheels wear fast, I have made this experience also.

Sector Wheels are fairly low density, lower in weight than similarly sized wheels by lets say,Exskates. This will make them accellerate quick, good for around town or lower intensity sliding, but they do wear quick when pushed hard.

Matt, there are lots of other wheels,And many opinions right here under WHEELS,just dig into the Archives. But to prevent wheel wear from getting too severe on any 1 or 2 wheels,I mark 'em in back (RF,LF,RR,LR,-rf being right front)so that I can rotate them like car tires, and kinda keep track of the wear.Rotating the wheels front to rear will make 'em last a good bit longer.

I just got a brand new pair of sector9 70mm wheels and I also just started using slider gloves to do tight turns and slides. After about an hour of practicing sliding my back side wheels are coning out. Is this bad? If so, what wheels would work better?

XT Wheels-Long term review

I have a set of these on my daily transport board and I think they're great. They are worn down so far that there is only treads on the outer 1/4 inch of the wheels. Yes, with the high risers and high tread they do raise your c.g. but you get used to it.As for slowing you down,I don't think so! Because of the soft nature and tall diameter they tend to soak up surface irregularities and stick well.I have them mounted on a Eric Nash Sims oldschool with mis-matched trucks and the bearings that came with the used XT's. It carves hard and when I have the urge to slide I just look for patches of gravel,dirt,lawn-clippings,whatever... It's not the equipment-it's the rider!

I own and skate the XT dirt wheels. I have never personally had a problem with the extreme weight of these wheels slowing me down. I have found them to actually be "too fast" for me when I ride the hard packed hills.
I have accelerated from a stand still to over 20 mph in less than 150 ft, and for my dirt skill level, that is flying. I don't think the weight of the wheels slowed me down at all... I wish they had, because I crashed pretty hard! HR
