i would go with either the power paw 65mm 74a or kryptonics route 65(65mm) 78a. Both are good wheels

I'm kinda new to longboarding and was hoping for some expert opinions on something. What brand and type (mm/a) wheels are best for cruising around, not necessarily downhill or at skateparks? I'm talking about riding around town. Whaddya think?

Round vs. Squared

Hamm,
Given the same urethane compound and the same size and width, a round-edged wheel will break loose and slide easier and more predictably than a square-edged wheel. That's why slalom riders prefer square-edged wheels with stiff cores -- to prevent sliding. On the other hand, some of the best sliding wheels like Bones Bombers 68mm 82a are double radiused.

Here's a question for ya, how does the shape of the wheel affect the way its sliding point? Does a wheel that back in my day we called "double conical" break traction sooner that a wheel that has more squared shoulders.
Thanks

Hi Hugh,
I haven't heard anything from Chris yet.
I have thought about claiming fraud, but I thought I'd give them another chance. I'll wait a week, then I'm sending a letter to Exkate and a copy to Visa.
I hope this will take a good end.

exkate customer service??

Lonecore,
I have still not received any word back from Sally or Chris (don't know if he still works there) about the apparent overcharging on the shipping of your wheels. Have you?
One avenue that you do have is through the credit card company. You may be able to file a fraud claim. I know that fraud is a very strong word, but when companies are not recepitive to customers, strong words are in order. I would send a registered letter (the kind with a return receipt) to exkate, demanding an explanation of the charges. Carbon copy this letter to your credit card company.
I personally and professionally do a lot of purchasing and have found that while price may be important, it's not the most important factor in choosing a vendor. Customer Service is key. I try to only do business with companies who understand this concept.
Hopefully exkate will realize that there is more at stake here than just one dissatisfied customer!

yes it is true... even though I don't know the green party man, I am related (distantly) on my grandmothers side... guess it runs in the blood...

dual duro wheels

Do dual duro wheels really reduce the amount of coning? I almost bought a pair of 9balls that had 78a outside and something like 92a on the inside. Does this really prevent any coning on the wheels? I currently ride 65mm 78a Fluids and with some moderate power slides, they've started coning. Does rotating the wheel setup help as well?
Thanks for reading this long, LONG question.

shawn,
You're riding on the wrong wheels! Yours sound like the rock-hard soulless wheels from the Dark Ages of skateboarding (1980-1996). Get your butt down to Purple Skunk at Geary/22nd and look into some 70mm Kryptonics or something like that. Bring your board and they'll hook you up!

I recently recieved a free 41 inch deck from arbor snowboards. i've snowboarded for over 10 years, but i've never skateboarded, so its been pretty interesting. i' m actually totally hooked, and i can't believe i've never done it before! Anyway, since i didn't know anything about skateboarding when i got the board, i got hooked up with all this freestyle hardware, i think. (my wheels are 59mm, and they're pretty hard) i don't need tons of speed since i'm just starting out, but i do need wheels that will get me to work --> big hills, big flats, huge cracks in the sidewalks, construction everywhere, rocks, screws, garbage, homeless people. I need to be able to ride over all of that (my board gets away from me all the time) -- oh yeah, this city of chaos is San Francisco -- maybe some of you can relate. anyway, advice on the perfect wheel to handle all of this would be fantastic, and any other advice would be quite special too! ------thanks sc

I can't believe it, out of the 11 sets of wheels i have ( yes, i am obsessed), including Cherries and Aluminators, my Super G's are tested and proven to be the all around fastest- i never would have guessed. I found out by running across Manu's site: www.longskate.net look under "tests" link, him and 3 others test wheels.

Ueli,
I just spoke with Sally at Exkate. She says that she will look into this. She was unaware of the NCDSA web site, so I invited her to take a look and read the posts.
Hopefully some other people here in CA can make a few calls too. There phone # is posted on their web page.
That price for shipping sounds like someone mis-placed a decimal point...
Hopefully this all works out... Hugh R aka hugh308

Hi Sonny,
what does "better business bureau" mean? English is not my main language, you must know.
In your case, I would send back the wheels. Not because of the small holes, but because they could get bigger. Imagine what'd happen if a stone got caught in on of them tiny scratches? It'd rip of bigger chunks of the wheel. In any case, contact the one who sold them you before sending them back.
You know why it ttok so long to ship my wheels? UBS sent the package to Swaziland instead od Switzerland first, so I got my package directly from Africa.
Greetings,
Lonecore

First off.... Lonecore 3 words better business bureau! That is some shit man... and it still took a week???
Now.... I just got some new wheels and they are scratched a little bit in places. There are some tiny chunks missing from a couple of the wheels... none deeper than a few mm. Big deal not a big deal? I need to know fast cuz I gotta decide whether to send them back or not! Thanks,
Sonny

Some months ago, I ordered a set of Exkate Turbowheels directly from the company. I exchanged some email with a nice guy working them and told them to CHOOSE THE CHEAPEST SHIPPING WAY. The wheels cost 29$.
About a week later, the wheels arrived and Exkate took 148$ off my father's credit card. The shipping was more than 3 times higher than the price for the wheels. Is that the cheapest way? I don't think so.(comparision: shipping for 2 Randal trucks from USA to me: 9$)
I wrote several emails to them meanwhile, but they just tryed to win time.
Has somebody had the same experiences? Can somebody help me? I'll tell them to look in here, maybe they won't resist the public pressure.
Greetings,
Lonecore Ueli Niggli
