Metric to English

I really dislike the English system, but unfortunately this country thrives on it. Anyway, Blah is correct.

Hey, are these worth 14 bucks each? I need wheels that will last a few months, and I have heard soo much good about their ride, but nothing about their durability. And also, are they good on rough roads, as there are alot of them here in KC. I am thinking about getting these and randal R2's for my S9 pintail. Thanks.

I just put these on my S9 cosmic II which used to have a set of seriously coned out nineballs on it. I am really stoked on the speed and snap my board now has. True, any new wheels would have been an improvement as cone out caused some serious drag. I think I like that these look and feel great, and I really like the fact that none of my friends have them.

These wheels are good. But, in my very humble opinion, not worth $14 a piece (unless I was rich, but I'm not). I was fortunate enough to get my set for around $30. So anyway, they have good grip (Duh. They're Power Paws.) I don't notice the difference the alluminum hubs make too much (maybe if I really paid attention I might, but personally I'd rather focus on the good fun I'm havin while skating ;)) The coolest thing is that these 70mm'ers are pimpin when its nice and bright and sunny outside and my alluminum hubs are sparkling. So anyway, just thought I'd give em my little review. To sum it all up in one sentence: It's too bad they cost so much (cuz they ARE pretty damn cool).

Are the Fu Manchus (84a) any good? Which wheels of this size/durometer might be better?

S9 70mm 78a nineballs
On 6/7/2000 Scott wrote in from (216.126.nnn.nnn)

Blah and herbn have my support in their assessment of these wheels. I thought that flipping them around would do the trick, but they still suck. They wear out way too fast. They were good at first, but after sliding on them they have become trash can fodder.

I'll agree with blah, These Sectors are lightweights, they accelerate well, perhaps good for riding around town, but under serious use/abuse they cone and wear quickly.

S9 76mm
On 6/6/2000 Blah wrote in from (209.245.nnn.nnn)

I'd have to disagree with Rob's assessment. I have a feeling S9 76mm are the best wheels S9 has (so I've heard, I've only ridden them once). The hub isn't likely to pop out (the one in my gravity's hasn't), and the hub allows a lower rotational inertia for better acceleration over an all urethane 76mm wheel. I have S9 70mm/78a, I think they kinda suck. They don't grip that well, and wear out kinda fast. Their good to practice sliding with though.

Wheel Wear
On 6/5/2000 Scott wrote in from (216.126.nnn.nnn)

I believe Herbn once mentioned the fact that he flipped his wheels around to get a more even wear from his wheels. I followed his advice and turned my very coned wheels around thus putting the inside part of the wheel out. It works well. I've got a lot more grip and soon my wheels will no longer have that unsightly conical shape. Thanks, Herbn.

Madrid's?
On 6/5/2000 Travis wrote in from (165.248.nnn.nnn)

I got a question. I need some wheels for my board. My friend has a set of clear red Madrid wheels, with most of the words still on them. They are used, but only for about three days. He's asking $27 for them. Is it a good deal, or should I buy some new wheels from our local skate shop? Please help!

What's the Best Wheels for carving/downhill?
On 6/5/2000 Rob wrote in from (168.191.nnn.nnn)

I have some 70mm 9-Balls that I got a huge slice in, from riding parralel to a huge crack on a neighbors driveway curb thing. I was wondering if there are some real good wheels for around(or under)$35. I have heard about Kryptonics and Illuminators, are they any good, what's tha best? I'm new to downhill riding and I will be putting the wheels on my Pintail. as I have just moved to Kansas City from Florida, I have hardly any Downhill/Carving knowledge except behind my dog, or friends car and on golf courses and at Kona skatepark. Thanks.

Flat Tire
On 6/5/2000 Hamm wrote in from (205.188.nnn.nnn)

I had a similar gash in a 80a Super G. I took a screwdriver, pryed it a little open and rubbed some warm water StickyBumps surf wax in the gash. Worked great. I check it weekly and it shows no sign of getting bigger.
I don't slide on it though

Wheel gashes
On 6/5/2000 Sarah wrote in from (152.163.nnn.nnn)

I ride 78a Kryptos and they have a lot of tiny gashes in them from riding on glass, etc. If the gash is not too deep, I would not worry about it, as it will get more shallow as the wheel waers away.

On 6/5/2000 The Enchanting Wizard of Rhythm wrote in from (128.193.nnn.nnn)

Last night I was tearin through a local park, and I think I might of ran over some glass or a sharp rock or sumthin, because now I got this nice 3/4" - 1" gash running diagonally from about the middle of the wheel to the outside edge. What really stinks is that these wheels aren't just any wheels - they're my Alluminators... Grr. I'm pretty sure it's not a defect in the wheel's construction. The gash isn't THAT deep (it doesn't come anywhere close to hitting the hub) but I'm afraid if I ride it very much more (especially carve-style), a considerable piece of my wheel is gonna chunk off (which could end up being dangerous). Extremely unwanted situation. Anybody else had experience with similar gashes? Is there a good chance it's gonna chunk off? The urethane is 78a.

Thanks a bunch,
sK

Big Wheel
On 6/5/2000 The Enchanting Wizard of Rhythm wrote in from (128.193.nnn.nnn)

racer,

Big wheels are faster at the bottom of the hill (they are capable of attaining and retaining higher speeds) while smaller wheels are faster at the top of the hill (they accelerate faster than the biggies).

Pullin out jives and jamboree handouts,

Fu man achu! and its cousins
On 6/3/2000 DT wrote in from (209.223.nnn.nnn)

The Gravity Fu Manchu, Sector 9 76mm, Livewire Revolvers, Vapor, and Kryptonics 76mm are ALL THE SAME shaped wheel made by the same company!

The only differance is the urethane formulas. In which Kryptonics and Livewire have the best. The others are much slower and dont have as good as rebound. The livewires come in both 78a and 82a and the kryptos are a 78a that is an even stickier formula.

I've never had any, but i used to have some wheels that looked like mags (invisible moonrovers) and the rubber doughnut came off the hub and it sucked.
