What would be considered a good entry level dirt/grass board?

My friend hooked me up with a MBS Comp16 complete. He also gave me a Blade Deck and a Sol 16 deck. Which should I set up? I've never ridden a mountain board am old and fat. Does my setup matter that much?

My company, Illusion All Terrain Concepts, has just released a new product, the Mountain Luge. Imagine the speed and carving of street luge with the terrain versatility of mountainboards. We have plenty of images and video clips with more to come. Check it out at www.illusionatc.com for more info. Let me know what you think.

Click on cover shot to read up.
As reqested for more reading material, I hope to get T.R.I.P. out once a month on top of the other articles I hope to post up. This week features freestyle progression, building a quarter pipe, gear review, power slides aswell as other stopping methods.

Do anyone here have the possibility to trye if a Randal hanger fits on a Shock Truck baseplate, I would like to have that option so i could shift wheels fast and easy by changing the hangers only and use one deck fore both offroad and aphalt carving, Nice when you travel in a small car and live on low budget :o)

Andreas, Sorry for the delay I agree with UnitM prety much the whole way through
If you want to have full-bindings (Snowboard style) then a NoSno would work out well for you. It does require you to use snowboard boots and bindings with most set-ups(sold seperatly).I would have to reccomend the Freestyle/Freeride, it comes with 9" tires. 10" tires are a little big for most types of riding, and you can tip over easier on them.
If you don't want full-bindings, you CAN use MBS F3 with Baseplate bindings, or you can use MBS Freeflex.. F3's are better, and the Freeflex are more affordable. Both are compatible with the 4x4 snowboard-style binding mount system that NoSno uses. You will need to run lighter bushings with this set-up. NoSnos are crazy-fast boards and work well for fast downhill and really burly terrain. They carve well, too.
Your other option, is a different board. MBS's Comp 26 or Comp 26 X would be a good option, for a longer board. They come also, with 9" tires. The Comp 26 X is a newer version of the Comp 26 and comes with improved.. everything.. and has a brake, too. In my opinion it carves better then the NoSno does.. Channel trucks just have a certain feel to them, that's smooth and has a great turning radius.
For a more 'traditional' or shorter board, you would probably have good luck with a BhI Carbon Pro or Kevlar Pro. You can buy a deck and build your own board, or buy a complete with skate or channel trucks (reccomended)

Surfer type-
Might be your best bet as a no-Sno Freeride. I've ridden one and it's pretty much what you seem to be describing. Mainly because it has larger tires than any other board. If you're into freestyle at all, and just want to change your tires around for different things, a Biohazard Industries Carbon Pro is my suggested non-import. Then, accessorize with some larger tires with it. Otherwise, the no-Sno seems to be what you should look into. I'ts pretty good for trail blaizin'.

Well, Sam, When Longboarding I´m into the soul carving kind of skating. In general I prefer a smooth soulful ride, flex and good turns. I love travelling sideways... This dirtboard thing, I think I´m looking for something that could work well with both carve and freestyle. Intermediate to advanced. Quality is good, I think. In Sweden we got nice forests with trails and paths and I think you easily could find a place where you could go for something like 30 minutes. Jumping is fun, but I´m more of the surfer type...
Kindly Andreas

Dave (You've got the same name as my dad Dave High). Well, there is no MBS binding ever classified as "Regular", I'd ask about more specifics on the "Regular" binding, but the Multiflex binding is the 'standard' binding for the comp 16 and the one i was talking about. It consists of a Freeflex binding (Straps and Posts) and an aluminum plate. Another kind of binding offered was the Deuce but it was less regular then the Multiflexes. Check out mountainboardz.com. Go to accessories, then bindings. You'll find the Multiflexes there.
Andreas, are you looking to do only carve, or carve and freestyle? What kind of board are you looking to buy, entery-level, intermediate, or advanced?

The bindings on the Comp 16 can be switched around with no problems, all you need is the correct size allen key which comes with the board. Four bolts to each binding, just like on a snowboard binding.
If you don't want to switch the bindings aronud, you can ride the board jsut as is, because it's bi-directional (No difference which way you ride it). but you may want to adjust bindings anyways, as you can adjust each foot angle and stance width on the Comp 16.
Oh, make sure that the board comes with Multiflex bindings.

Does the MBS Comp 16 with bindings work for Goofy foot or do you have to redrill everything?
Thanks, Dave H.

Not made by Randall, not like the randal. The shock trucks give an incredibly smooth ride in the way the balance point is connected at the hanger. A very smooth ride, good for freestyle aswell due to it's very light nature. The disadvatage is that it is noted in not having as much turning ability as other models. More of a freestyle board, or smooth straight riding. Not the most agile carveing board out there.
