Jimi,
I think the high jump record is 5'3" and if I'm right, Ernie Martin holds the record.

i know danny. matter of fact there is one right by the skate shop. we also found one that in indoor and nobody lives there; the guy next door said he doesn't care if we skate it and he said we could run extention cords from his house for lights and stuff. pretty cool, huh?

I have lots of fun doing freestyle. I find street skating to frustrating and stress full (but i do it any way, kind of a love hate thing going on there), longboarding offers a mello escape from that and freestyle offers a more free version (as the name suggests). i dont know, i guess its just the freedom to do what ever i like that attracts me to freestyle and longboarding. Street always seems kind of blunt and pointless, try for weeks to jump donw some steps without hurting ur self and at the end of it realise u havent really achieved ne thing because it was much safer just to walk down them.

When spinning i find it helps to track(?), I think thats that its called. When you keep focused on 1 spot then swing ur head round back to that spot. A figure skating friend helped me perfect it, really stops me from getting dissy and can prolong my spin by a few extra turns. Mind you, thats not to many. I can only do 7-9 spins, never been to great at wheelies, or flip tricks, or handstands, or shoveits. lol, may be freestyle isnt for me then. hehe, ah well, i have fun.

i can do like nine or ten 360's consistantly. recently i've been getting back to the surf roots of skateboarding and just riding strictly pools. no airs, just carves, edgers, and things like that. i live in a really small town so it's easy to know were all the pools are and just go from one after another everyday.

I notice that alot of people, after the wind up cross their arms and keep them tucked close to the body almost like a figure skater,is this immportant?when I do wheelie carves and the wheelies you mentioned my arms are extended to help me balance.I can wheelie a whole parking lot(regular wheelie),spacewalk in any direction, and do large 360 carves with ease but I cant get the hang of spinning in place.Ive been working on some more advanced wheelies I can only do regular ones consistantly, hang tens and one foot tail wheelies are getting a little easier but I have a long way to go,alot more practice ahead of me NATE

On spinning-Do long wheelies in the form of the way you spin -1 foot nose, basic tail two foot ect, The wheelies will lock your muscles in for control needed while spinning also try tightening your trucks a little for more added control and work on spinning slow before you let lose.........

Jeremy, Bunny Hops only on my hands and not very often. A little more weight to catch then in the 70's and 80's even the 90's.
Knee's just don't alow me to bend that much in confort anymore so it's just easier that way.

just learned christie this past year, i do it with 1 sliding glove hand on the ground.
see Downhill Motion with (mmm... spacing on the name) doing beautiful smooth christies.
still digging around for more seventies footage.
working on 360 spins, those are real hard for me,

who else still does bunny hops? i still like to do them down curbs at speed. in fact, i enjoy almost all of the tricks done in the 70's more than in the 80's or 90's, there just so darn fun.

What is a Christie????
Ok, I looked in an old skatebook from the 70's and found it: Ride regular on your board, squat down and grab the nose and tail with your right and left hand (like a bunny hop position). Now you take the rear fot off and stretch it out in front of you and start a curve with your board. To turn would be actually pretty hard these days, because most people ride their trucks pretty tight. But it was all different in the 70's with short boards, small wheelbases, so you could turn. Just take a look at old footage where they were performing all kinds of turning and spinning tricks.
You can take the front foot off as well, or even both, which will bring you into an L-sit......

Tasos,
Do you still need high jump pics? I've got a few old shots of Torger Johnson (scanned from Skateboarder) that I could send if you still need them...
