Dave T Yes, Im for real re the cones... I'll have to research it, tho. My Dad's gone skiing for a week so I cant ask him to clarify til he's back. If I get time I'll search in our local yellow pages and see if there's a 'Cones R Us'- type company listed. My guess is they supply road /traffic cones by the hundreds of thousand to contractors and local authorities. But it's got to be worth an enquiry!
Sheffield: Number one in the world for traffic cones and slalom skating.:-)
Clingfilm, email me and lets get goin on this!

I also have e-mails for Santi DIAZ, the great Jose DEMATOS and Stephan ASSUEID.
I'm actually working on a "welcome e-mailing" for all the past and present slalomers back on the scene.
I'll send this e-mailing to some of you to have your opinion.

I'll be there, Chris.
Just posted a bunch more scans up including mag coverage of Brands from 88. Check the slaom page for a description of what just went up. Check about 2 or three pages back in slalom for a description of killer scans posted yesterday.

Looking forward to Sheffield. I think we should make it a training session also. We should run the main competition as a B group. Us southerners, or anyone who wants to take us on, can run a demonstration event. may be a staggered head to head. Lets get people interested and involved and let them try boards, lets set up a shop. I recon a £5 entrance fee if we have no costs. Any profits can go to help fund larger events in the summer. Cheap for a weekend skate indoors. The A groups will consist of Professional level skaters, or those who may be thinking of competing in the US later in the year, as a warm up and race practice. I talked to Chris Charalambous today and he is interested if we drive him up. Dobie will probably come, hopefully Simon Levene, Sweeny if we can contact him, Jim Parry Jones is around somewhere and Ed is around also. Could we get more. Lets find them. Micheal will come. Any Europeans are welcome. I am sure that we can help you to do it cheaply.
Any sponsors who wish to contribute please contact me for arrangements, or if you are interested in future possibilities. No comitment and I will explain what we can do for you.
Lets keep it fun Chris

Check with Michael Stride (sales@slalomskate.com) about cones. He should be able to source a quantity of reasonably priced 9" Tracker style cones in orange or white by early March.

anyone know a good 'cheap' UK supply of suitable cones? i've seen some skatebranded ones, but needing a minimum of 25 they worked out quite pricey.

Sheffield, that well-known global epicentre of slalom skating, will be hosting possible two events this year... one Feb/March time, the other in May/June!
Details are sketchy but as soon as things are finalised, rest assured NCDSA hedz will be the first to find out. In the meantime, if youre interested to know where we're up to and what is planned, or fancy helping out or offering much-needed advice to a novice organiser(!) feel free to email me!

Hi,
yup, the very old Tracker ''blue''urethane bushings are one of the best made. I tried to get hold of them as well, but at Tracker they have been out of stock for years now. Maybe they will start producing them again with the new increasing demand. They are making specific Slalom trucks these days, so......
That's may 2cents on this. YoYO

Perhaps some prize money from some of the Major USA competitions could go towards a fund to encourage travel and competition between countries? As we have done before we can select representitives from each country to travel and compete- should anyone want to travel on their own budget that is of course an option.

Hi Gints and Erik! Welcome back to a new group of a friends. Please spread the word to as many people as possible. Do you have any contact with Josef Stevka? And what of the Russians Anatoly, Yelena, and Juri? They must also know of more slalom activity.
I am in the process of writing an article about the competitions that occured this year in the USA. I have had several people say they will translate it into several languages.
I will be sure to Email you and Erik and others a copy. Please email Adam Trahan as well. I had no way to know if this enthusiasm was to remain strong in the USA in regards to contests- I was afraid the energy might go out. But I can say that the fire is burning strongly for the moment and you should expect there to be some good competition with some Americans.
Do any of you have access to high speed connections over the internet so you can see video streaming?
Erik, I suppose you will be needing some more shoes?

just got the url for this forum from Gints. read through all what has been said here. i'd like to thank John G (dude, the airwalks you gave me in paris back in '95 still serve me well) for what he has been saying here. up to my knowledge and experience everything is factually correct.
the reason ISSA has not been much active during last 5-6 years is that 1. most of the guys active these days had to start making living with a demanding job. you can't run a family with doing a bit of this and a bit of that over here. ISSA was much run from our own pocket in free time. 2. the industry (most probable sponsors) is in the U.S. there was no active slalom scene there, europe as a market was not attractive enough. 3. the industry itself had been promoting skate&destroy styles, you needed a new streetdeck every other week/month and other stuff as well on a regular basis. in slalom you needed only new wheels and occasionally new bushings and bearings.
i would not like to continue any or raise another argument here. the new organisations can be called buy various names, the competitions can be called by various names. of course a competition on the US west coast can be called World Championships to attract more sponsors, other funding, TV coverage, spectators etc. even if the east coast guys are missing, not saying about the europeans.
how on earth get the real World Championships or World Cup done? as the critical mass in terms of active slalomers _may_ be in the states many may consider the US the place it should be held in. maybe there's a point to have it in europe to wake slalom scene up on this side of earth. the main issue is that there is not enough funding in this sport. transatlantic travelling itself most often becomes an obstacle for many.
some want to preserve current status quo because they mentally or financially benefit from it. whether it serves well the sport as a whole _globally_ is another issue.
there have been wordings about getting ISSA archives and SLALOM! online. i've got some minor stuff still on my hard drive, the majority was done by Jani for years. i don't know if he has something still left available.
anyways, take care you all and skate safe

These are so soft. Those who have ridden my board all say that it is wobblely due to the rubbers, or bushings if you are American. They are just the best. The ACS and Laser red were good, but these are far better. I have never come across anything close.
