Welcome to the Fold Paul!!
Like Gavin Said, some of us seem to get local notorioty (is that spelled right?) as most of us are "older", my 42" Fibreflex cutaway caused a bit of a stir amongst the local kids when i wandered up to the local "alldays" on it.
stick with it, there are some ace hills in Torquay, Can't remember what the surface is like but "Upper Warbury Road" and the surrounding roads are on the side of a hill

paul, take heart... i too was ridiculed by my local village (just out of penzance, west cornwall) for being way too old to ride a skateboard (literally, kids used to point and laugh... and as for the women in the corner shop!!) but now it seems i'm gaining a certain notoriety. was out a few days after xmas playing on a new board (TVS parker model...thanks santa) and some kids came up and said "aren't you that bloke who rides that really long board?".
p.s. took the tvs to mount hawke (indoor skatepark for those that don't know)last week, that really caused a stir amongst the kiddies...great fun!

Hi all,
I used to work in the travel industry and one of my best friends still does. What this means is if we all put our flights through him then it will be cheaper than anywhere else.
I dont mind if people want to use him just for your general holiday flights aswell, he would sort out some good prices.
All i need to know is where and when and i can get some good prices.
I have friends at the Rom sk8 park, when did you want to hold the race and im sure i can set it up?
Of cause Urbanboards will always supply prizes etc and be a sponsor aswell as looking for more riders to sponsor. we already have a UK team of 6 riders which will attend as many races as possible.
Chris let me know what you want me to do.
Give me a call when you can i have a few q's for you.

To Claude: bonne année 2002, en espérant te rencontrer en Europe avec d'autres grands slalomers américains !
To Adam Yesss: many thanks once again for your European dédication ! Hope to meet you soon...
To the great UK slalom group: you're always active in all domains...you must be an example for all european slalom countries ! In fact, i'm actually working on the Trocadero Classic but the FCR SERIES schedule take me by surprise. I'll meet soon Jani SODERHALL and Dan GESMER in Paris. I also exchange with Howard GORDON (but i know you're already Turner addicts !) on that subject. I'm working on an european slalom mail list to estimate the real salom's potential of the european scene. Can you help me ? And with all these actions, perhaps you'll be ready soon to replace "UK" by "E" to create the ESSA !!!

Greetings,
I've watched your group (not here, in SLALOM magazine by Jani and friends) for quite some time. I was given SLALOM magazine back in 94 and I've learned a lot about slalom racing from this over the years when there was VERY LITTLE going on here in the USA. I believe that you guys carried the torch for a while, now we are running with it again. I hope we can light you guys up so you can come over here and humble some USA racers. I really enjoy the enthusiasm that you guys have for the sport and I feel that the FCR series is not truly a World Championship unless it includes races in Europe and other areas around the world. This thought does not however reduce my enthusiasm for the series, hey, it's slalom skateboard racing and I dig that, it's just difficult to understand a world championship declaration instead of a geographic based racing challenge.
Anyway.
Please, send me some URL's of European Slalom Skateboarding web sites. I would love to visit them and see what is going on. I would like to meet you guys and one day, if I don't get too old, I will have to make a race over your way...
Thanks for showing up here and sharing your enthusiasm.

Hi just wondering if anyone is interested in longboarding in Torquay? im an older dude and dont seem to come across many other riders who are interested in forming a group for carving/hills etc. if you are out there and reading this give me an email I have 2 boards a sector 9 & a gravity hypercarve and am really into the boards just got fed up of ridin round on my own, plus torquays pretty backwards compared to london and cornwall & people tend to think youre off your head ridin a skateboard once youre older. I really dig it though and have a few sector 9 & gravity vids and try and read ILB regular. catch u later....paul

Sorry for any delay, Boy you guys are keen!!!
Meeting 06.01.02 Punch and Judy
Thanks to those that attended, your input and help is apprieciated: Mike Stride Jonathan Mogg Sam Gordan
We have setup the UKSSA (proposed title) United Kingdom Skateboard Slalom Association. I have developed a log, which I have tried to attach, we shall see if it works. If not let me know how I do this here if you can not see it. We have done this due to the fact that we need to look "official" when applying for permission to skate at various locations. I have applied for Brands Hatch and Crystal Palace, giving them these dates as preferred options for the back to back world series competitions to try to bring the US skaters over: 26-28 July 2-4 Aug 16-18 Aug 30-1 september We shall see if these are available. I have also asked CP for the Easter weekend. The banked slalom event was discussed and it was decided to try Romford to hold the event as it was thought that Stockwell may be too busy that weekend. We also discussed European tie ins. We hope for an event in France at Les 2 Alps and the Trocaderro. We need help here from the French help arrange this. Mike sayes that he has details of how to contact the Mayor of Paris but this is still under investigation. Any other help will be needed, especially by someone in Paris. We can provide everything as long as we have the location. We would also look to the Switzerland and Italy to hold something if possible, but remember: TRY TO HOLD AN EVENT WHERE THERE ARE CHEAP AIR FARES. Any other events can be accomodated, but this is all we have at present. We also hope for more events outside of London but are looking for locations. HELP!!! I have drafted a set of rules which are being looked at by the attendees and hope for feedback before I post these. These are based on some I worked with John Gilmore on.
Does anyone know of a company that has loads or airmiles that they can give us to support travel for us abroad?
Funding is a problem in the UK. We plan to support any shop or organisation that supports slalom, in logistics or prizes etc. These will need to contribute of money. We have also agreed that the NCDSA will have free advertising at all competitions this year to show respect for this site. Adam I may be asking you for a banner or something. Turner are the only confirmed supporter at this time but we hope for more. Mike, Ian from Urban boards (you were not there but you can't get out of this) and Mogg are to try to find contact names of possible skate and none skate sponsorship. These will be fed to me and I will send a sponsorship pack to them to request help. This is allow control of the process and eleminate the possibility of sponsors being hit twice. If anyone has contacts please feed to me. We are concerned about how to recoup competition costs. We do not know what these may be at the moment and we hope that this will be covered by the entry fee, but some events may be expensive. TV coverage is to be persued by anyone who has any contacts with the broadcast industry. I am sure we can get the TV out, focus on X games type shows, eg transworld sport.
The timing euipment is under development and we hope to have a few sets tested in a month or so.
I am curently the "hub" of communication for all events. If you want to run one let me know and I will ensure that there is not another event at the same time. I have arranged with Adam that we can advertise our contests on NCDSA at a small cost.
In short We have provisional dates (applied for) for the world series events and other events. We need more locations in case these go wrong and for other events. We have no money at present but hope for funding. Any help here would be good. Look for companies excess air miles. Turner are offering support but we are looking for others. We have a basis for slalom, inc. longboard, rules. Timing equipment is under development and looking good.
Thanks again. Let me know if you can help.

The meeting was very productive. Kept on being 'ajourned' as I had to try out everyone's boards. I guess Clingfilm will post 'minutes'....but basically the idea is to have an umbrella org, to be the respectable face of skating to get permission to hold comps at Brands, Palace etc. It makes sense to me to have Chris front it until we all vote him off...we need someone to be a 'conduit' for the moment, and he'll be good at organising things. No, not just good, great. I'll leave it to Chris to post his ideas. But to all those who couldn't come, don't worry, its early days, very early days, so all input and ideas will be welcome. If anyone wants to put up some cones, post it here, and who knows, you might get a bunch of us to meet up. Have a great 2002, Michael

To my European friends,
I just got some website info from Gianlucca Ferrero.
http://spazioweb.inwind.it/coniskate
Now let's see if we can get you guys to the USA to compete.
I want to speak a little about the Bracketing issue and the seeding of the racers. Please refer to teh TLP racve post on the Slalom forum.
Flying to the West coast is expensive for me- in fact more expensive than If I went to the UK or Europe.
I had some concerns about the bracketing and seeding.
What are your thoughts on the matter?
Now for some choice info...though some may know it already.
American Airlines has the new 777 jets in service. Business class on these jets is equivalent to first class on others. (The 1st class is sicko with a privacy wall around you- full reclining seats personal tvs etc.)
You can do this deal. Buy a regular discounted ticket for under $300 US + 50 thousand miles. Not a bad deal. Just scrounge for miles.
