So what's happening with slalom in Sydney? Not that I'm there to join you, but I've been missing hearing about what's going on.

Great day and good work to the OST crew for putting on a race. It was a fun road and was good to meet more riders. Keep on rolling and lets build up the Downhill Crew in Oz. Peace

Yeah thanks to everyone who showed up. The full wash-up and results are at Old Skool Team forums page, in the Events section. Yeah the Old Skool Team has a heap of Force Drop Through's. Gavo has a custom 1 thats sweet. The longer ones are nice for rougher roads cause they eat up the bumps. The shorter one just plain flies. There nice boards with a good feel. I ride a "Dragon" on the street which I absolutely love and anyone who rides it wants 1

Checkout www.force.net.au Thier based in Melbourne and Jeff(the guy who runs it) is a keen rider with a great attitude. I'm sure you can hook up with him for a ride. Check out Old Skool Team to hook up with other Aussie riders

Japan - 2004 AJSA Dual Slalom

The race was split into two divisions (Open and Beginners), and there was a long-span (6'11" cone spacing) and short-span (5'3" cone spacing) race in each division. The Open division had a start ramp while the Beginner division had a push start.
The course was flat, with 23 cones for the long span and 30 cones for the short span. The winning times were about 9.8 seconds for both courses. Cone penalty was 0.2 seconds per cone, with a maximum of 3 cones down before disqualification.
Seeing as it was my first race and I've never skated vert, the ramp was a bit intimidating. I swallowed my fear and Just Did It. I now think ramp starts are cool.
Nevertheless, I opted for the push-start Beginner division where I came 7th in a field of 13 in the long span race.
I tried to check out people's equipment - I saw a lot of Gus trucks, and most wheels where narrow Hyper Stradas (?).
There were about 25 racers in all, and most of the fast guys were aged late 30s/early 40s. There were a bunch of 20-somethings and a few teenagers, but they were generally the slower guys.
Conclusion: Japanese slalom exists! And I gotta buy a slalom board. Wrestling my 28" wheelbase board around seemed very non-optimal. Well, that's my excuse anyway..

Bugs - how did the event go down in Yokohama? First Skate night in Yoyogi was a great time. The site worked really well and it will just keep growing. 2nd Monday of the month starting sometime around 7:45 until whenever. West Gate Yoyogi Koen - Tokyo
So Tochigi (Inaka!!) is pretty far from this thing. Thanks for spreading the word and next time you are in Tokyo bring your board. We'll get a few guys together and carve up some pavement.
Did you take any photos at Kugenuma yesterday? Would you be willing to write up a small update for the longskate section of Outdoor Japan?

Those Monday nights in Yoyogi koen sound like a great idea. I've just emailed a few people about them, so hopefully it'll grow.
The only problem for me is that I live a 3-hour train ride away, so Monday nights aren't a goer.

Hey Bugs - Good on ya spreading the word. That should be a great time!! I will unfortunatetly be working out in Yamanashi that weekend with board in tow but would love to get over there to see the event come off. I am hoping a friend of mine will be able to check it out.
Next week Monday the 8th there is a skate night kicking off just inside the West Gate to Yoyogi Koen in Tokyo. There is a lit run there that makes a good place to gather the masses :-) All are welcome, bring your board, cones, whatever... There is an announcement about that on the message board at www.outdoorjapan.com There is also a whole section there about longboard skating in Japan that is growing quickly. Contributions are always welcome and it is a way easy way to promote events and write them up after they come off. Good luck in Yokohama - AC

2004 AJSA Dual Slalom
Date: Sunday 14th November Time: Entry at 10.00 am, Racing at 11:00 am Location: Kugenuma Skate Park Course details: Straight dual slalom on a flat course. Two events - 160 cm cone distance and 210 cm cone distance. Click here for all the details.
This will be my first ever race. In fact it'll be the first time I've ever seen anybody pump a skateboard other than on video, but I'm hoping to be competitive. I can get my 27.5 inch wheelbase board through 210 cm cones OK, but I'll need a shorter board for the 160 cm race.
