Yup, this's what happened to me this weekend...& when I was allowed to remove the blindfold I was allowed to sk8 a cool but tight pool...heard it wouldn't hold water so they were going to fill it in soon, plus out in drought country, filling a leaky pool is against the law! Thanks for kidnapping me and returning me to my rendez-vous spot after the session. You guys know who you are.

Skatepark Review

For all those So Cal skaters interested in the Hollywood Sports Complex located in Bellflower. I thought I would write a quick review. I skated the wood skatepark yesterday. Currently $10.00 this included free rock climbing if you have the energy. And $7.00 for spectators. This place won't last. The vert ramp was huge. Too much vert for the average skater and the mini-ramp coping was too big. The street area was designed for Bikes. They ruled this place even the ramps. BMX kooks everywhere! Right next to the skatepark was a paintball complex and a BMX track that produced mini dirt devils that carried all sorts of dirt onto the biking/skateboarding surface. This place isn't for skateboarders. If you have a bike, paintball gun and big wallet it might be for you.

Believe me, we work our asses off for the terrain we do have. Lots of peeking over fences to late night drainings and early morning skates. All else fails it's time to brake out the wallet and pay someone to let us drain, skate and clean their pool. Or, just barge in, take over and get those runs in, which seems to be the most popular with the guys I run with. We don't have any public crete/parks worth speaking of and it hurts when we lose pools. The Fish bowl was at some apartments where this hardcore, black militant lady was the apt. mngr. and she'd curse us out as she was dialing the cops. The Dead Squirrel on the other hand is at a vacant house in North Dallas and is up for sale. If you have about $450,000.00 you could have the house with the lovely little righty in the back yard.

enoughs enough chaps... pls show some restraint in posting pics of perfect pools and bowls. don't you know that some of us are seriously deprived of sweet lovely curved smooth transitioned surfaces? over here in west cornwall, UK, we have NOTHING like that just the obigatory new school fun boxes and halfpipes. So please stop... you don't know what you're doing to me!!

I just got back from my first visit to Port Orford in Oregon. And the place has a Cradle. What's a Cradle? Well, it's this over vert circular thing. And it's sick to ride. I'm thinking it's almost as fun as a real back yard pool. Check out http://www.toysrbob.com/portorford.html to see the rest.

Right handed Kidney/ Squirrel bowl

The Skatepark in Donald, Oregon, has a left handed kidney bowl a little smaller than the one pictured. But it has the feel of a real pool. Stairs in the shallow end and everything. 10 ft deep, real coping, vert, spillway, etc. But, no death boxes, or light or tile. It's a must stop for anyone one traveling through, just 5 minutes off I-5, Exit 278. A nice stop for anyone coming up to race in August at Hood River, OR.

SOrry about the confusion. ALl the talk of embedding and web hosting gave me tired head. Anyway, yeah, the fish literally had 8 deathboxes. Last session I skated there was with some serious Texas Poolsharks. Me, Dan Wilkes, Billy Smith, Ron "Ripper" Malippa, Craig Johnson, Cruzo, Jason Bickley, Mark Abrook and Tracy Weller. 4 boxes in the deep with lovely bullnose coping. drrooooooooooooooolllll.....

Hey Stubbs- good to see you posting here. Did you post the rught picture of the "fishBowl"? The pool in the photo that you posted doesn't look like what you described- it doesn't look like a fish. Nor does it have 8 Deathboxes.

Just lost a beauty here in Dallas. Best pool in 10 years. Fish shaped, the shallow was like 2 tail fins spliting off with stairs seperating them, fully workable almost mini ramp like shallow, nice 3' waterfall into a 9.5-10 foot massively rounded with 8, yes 8 deathboxes to hit, 4 of them in the deep. Drove by about a week ago and there was literally 20 truckloads of dirt on top of her.AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGG GGGHHHHHH!

Lots of flat bottom, Real coping, tiles, deathbox, must have vert and shallow end. Channels are good, corners and hips add character.

Although it's been over 20 years since I last skated a pool... I still remember that my favorites were the "kidney" shaped pools... 10 to 12 feet deep, 20 or so feet across at the widest point in the deep end... HR

New Austin Skatepark Bowl

Austin has a new park replete with an 80' long, C shaped bowl. If I could figure out how to attach photos I'd post it. 6 foot shallow with a 3 foot waterfall into a 9 foot deepend. ALL WOODEN, indoors. One side is straight and runs the entire length (80 feet) and the other side has a sweet hip right at the waterfall into the deep, creating the C shape. We (The Texas Poolsharks crew) are getting the privelidge of breaking her in at a private session this weekend. I'll figure out the post thing and get some photos up. Speed, carve, grind!! Let's Roll!

Perfect Bowl?

The Hangar Bowl comes pretty close. Workable shallow end with half-pipe, and plenty of steep drop-off into deep end waterfall. Lets see? Hips too. All kinds of coping from steel to wood to concrete. Even has tile. Only drwaback would be coming from deep back into shallow which required popping over one of the hips but once there, the shallow end had it`s own endless lines.
