I don't have any pictures but if you get the Skateboard Madness video, it has a bunch of footage of Kent and others skating it. I got to skate it when it lived at Marina Skatepark for a while. It was interesting but not anything I miss today. There was basically one line in it, the same one everyone in Skateboard Madness skates. Drop in, big carve fs or bs, kickturn, kickturn, repeat until dizzy.

The Haloween event is usually just a big party out there. In years past Pros have showed up to tear the place up. I highly suggest you go, if you have been allowed to know where the bowl is :) I think Burnquist was here a few years back, not sure. Hank rules :)

Kent Senatore was a rider of the ramp. He lives in Hawaii and shapes surfboards (Jay Adams rides his shapes) and he has gotten back into sk8n again. He's riding bowls and all. Look for him to break out again with all of this 70's resurgence. Remember him from the BBC's original Dogtown documentary "Skateboard Kings"?

After 2 years of pushing and planning Da Man Wally is on site and broke ground yesterday here in Charles County Maryland. It is going to be fun watching the progress...... 6 weeks and some settling time for the skate surface and all hell breaks loose around here. We just have to remeber to leave room for the kids. LOL

I rode it back in the, what 70's? Made me dizzy for days going around the capsule end. It lived at Solid Surf in Fort Lauderdale for quite awhile, after its appearance at the Van, Surf, and Skateboard Expo at the West Palm Beach Auditorium. What a trip that ramp was...don't have any pictures but I might be able to dig through some old Skateboarders to find one if you are really desperate. Who rode that year? Who were the Turning Point "Punkture" riders? Was Hackett one of them?
Hmmm, getting even more bizarre, the year previous at the VS&S Expo, a bunch of pro's came to ride a "human pinball" half pipe. It was some kind of pale blue fiberglass thing, with built-in buttons that would light up and you'd run over them to score points. Thankfully, the pro riders ignored the "intended" use and just ripped the half pipe. Shogo Kubo, Piercy (!), gosh I can't remember who else was there. Maybe Folmer was riding for Sims East by then, or was it the next year? I can't even remember the timeframe, maybe '77 or so? Was it the same year I bought my Fox Pat Love model deck? I've forgotten more than I can remember...

That sucks about Buena Vista. When I lived in San Jose with Grosso,Ross Goodman,& Tod Prince, we would often go over the hill to skate it. Also attended partys there with all the Santa Cruz, San Fran, & S.j. crews. It was good fun. Hope you succeed in Digging it out of the Grave.

RIP Buena Vista pool in Watsonville CA near santa cruz, some bros went to skate it this weekend and found it filled in...again. No biggie but this time somebody decided to bury what was described as a shipping container or mobile home in the bowl...anybody got a crane and a backhoe? While Buena has been a bust on and off, it needs to live on- Katen, Roskopp, Losi, Meek, Spidey, Cab once skated there

Is that the same Crazy Joe that was at the Skatopia event? The guy there was kinda older with Long, wavy black/dark brown hair. I thought he was a skatopia local but he could've been there w/ the South Carolina crew. Also, what city is the hanger Bowl in? Charleston?

Crazy Joe gave me a tour of the underbelly of the bowl. Lot`s of odd parts laying around like old bikes and broken skateboards. On the opposite corner of the front office is the back office. Here`s the secret spot where , well, er, secrets are made? I was asked not to photogragh it but I was allowed to take a pic looking out the back door. With old trees growing around this 70`s car, it must`ve been there for over 20 years...

Here`s a pic as you enter through the front door into the "front office" which is basically some old couches on a dirt floor under the bowl...

The 2003 champioships will have a bowlriding event at the Hangar Bowl. Go to www.streetrecords.com for more info. Site is under construction, but incase you like to plan early.
Concrete Wave Magazine is doing a cover story on Hank and his crew in the next issue, "The Grind Syndicate: Lords of the Hangar Bowl". July 4th is their next big jam session, then Halloween, then the world championships in june. There are a few pictures on the street site, but more will be up from the session that was part of the Fibreflex World Championships that just finished. Mahalo

Sweet pics of the Hanger Bowl! Makes me want to go there even more. I haven't been there yet but I was just out at skatopia for one of their annual rages where I hung with some people from the hanger bowl: Shannon & Otis & a guy called weed. Not Mike Weed from the 70's adds for Weed wheels- "My Weed's Legal." They encouraged me to come out saying that the bowl is "better than ever"- better than it was when it was still in the hanger. They also mentioned some event to happen there on Halloween but I forgot exactly what it was gonna be- a contest, a party?

What an epic bowl this is. Pool coping across the back, real tile on the right hip, sharp lip on left hip, and half pipe key hole with full inner bowl. Many places to tear it up (infinate lines to take).

Is this place longboard friendly? Would a geezer who's never been in a skatepark before, but can pump his 44" Fibreflex along flat surfaces, feel out of place there?

I'm planning a skate trip for later this summer. I'll have to stay on the west coast. I'm wondering what parks you guys think are "worth the trip". I'm coming down from Washington State. So far I'm planning on hitting Brookings, Port Orford and the other sick Oregon Parks.
By the way. If you've not heard of the Ballard Bowl. It's worth the trip to Seattle, WA, it is so smooth and fast. Lot's of fun. Ballard Bowl pictures.

Los Altos skate park in ABQ, NM

I don't think anyone out there will care as much as I do, but the Los Altos skate park in ABQ is now open 24 hours. Just like how you have to get your runs in before school lets out in the spring and fall so that you don't get swamped with kiddies, you now have to get your runs in before 2am when the bars close and the drunk skaters come to be belligerent in the park. It is a lot of fun though, and the 80 degrees at 2am sure beats the 105 degrees during the day.
