K-Lee, You know that James, myself and Kyle are down for Rio Bravo series. Set it up and we'll be there. I even have extra talkies and cones. We could race for all combined ash tray money for all I'm concerend, then maybe race downhill at Rio as well.

I spent a day in Seoul, Korea betweeen flights. Just outside the international airport, this pipe is on the left of the highway. It looked big. So if you're in the area, check it out... i know its a crappy shot, but it was from a speeding van!

Chris, I guess it all depends on the number of people currently interested. How many people reading this forum would be interested in the Rio Bravo Banked Slalom Winter '04/'05 Series? If we can get more than 5 people interested, I'll show up with cones and tape, and even a stopwatch maybe. Who has walkie talkies and stopwatches?

Hey K-Lee,
Do you think we are going to be able to get something going at R.B. before Winter sets in for good. Have you gotted any kind of feel for how many racers would turn out?
I think you're the catalyst, dude.

Chris; you hit it on the head. I timed everything from drag races to mtb races with the phone/radio & stopwatch system. Plenty cheap, plenty easy, plenty close-enough.

mapquest Toilet Bowl directions
It is on Skyhill, which used to be called Skyline. Toilet bowl was also called skyline pit. The street Kentucky, leading up to it was considered the gnarliest downhill run around, next to the hill at Universal Studios.
Happy memories.

Can anyone tell me where the original toilet bowl is, exactly? I remember riding there around '71-'73 before the speed bumps. I also remember it was in the foothiils near Universal Studios, but can't remember the exact street. Would like to go back and reminisce...

Beware Pierre, the Bidwell machine pictured is configured for it's original purpose...to pour huge amounts of concrete onto wide bridges for autos. The machines in ABQ have been modified to angle the two ends up at 40 degrees and curve the seam where we call it tranny. I think the price sounds fair if we can get a fabricator to do the modifications there in Montreal instead of hauling that thing here! I'll contact the AMAFCA and find out how difficult it would be to modify it. Let's just see if we can rent it for a single project like the Montreal Pro Banked Slalom Course and Regional Flood Control Authority.
I'm hoping you can get me a clip of my Supertanker slide in Indian School, I heard that you guys had the film rolling. Is it digital?

I think that I'm having a file permission problem, but I'm not sure yet. Oh, and the "Ditches are Deady, Stay Away!" online ditch directory has been delteted. Thank UNM for that one. I don't know when or even if it will be resurrected, especially since it's a pain in the butt to alter file permissions on my "new" server at prohosting! Gotta figure that one out. There goes another day off. Skating is always better than keyboarding.

Get a couple of two-way radios and a stopwatch. Have a guy at the start hold his radio open so that he and the racer can hear the guy at the bottom (with the stopwatch) say "on your mark, get set, go!" The stopwatch is started on "go" and stopped when when the guy crosses the finish line. You have to watch for false starts. It works. It's cheap. Good enough.

Just a heads up. James and I went to ride Rio yesterday afternoon. The top section has a significant ammount of dirt in it. Five guys could shovel and sweep it out quick though. James and I were not into cleaning so we rode the second section. It was good for the first half, and OK for the bottom, it is just that we are spoiled with perfect concrete and the bottom of the second half is a bit rough. Let us know when you want to go out to ride Rio.

K-LEE, James and I are down for RIO anytime. Either bomb the road or do the ditch. I have some trouble on top with my longboard (Cones are tight)but it is a great course. A week ago we were riding just prior to a storm. We got in about 6 runs before the black clouds rolled in from the west. A huge tailwind gusting like mad came up and was pushing us down the run very fast. One of the riders, who is very skilled, was trying to footbrake at the bottom and just did something funky. I didn't see him crash, but saw him get up. His left collar bone was in the shape of a U. He didn't drop a tear and I drove him home. His mom, A COP, was real cool about it. Anyway, if you read this Kyle, mad props for your pain threshold. Get healed up quick! K-LEE- Give us a call anytime and we're there. Laters

A nice hybrid banked slalom course has been marked at Rio Bravo ditch, in the uppermost section to the first bridge. It is tight up at the top for a carve-fest and opens up near the bottom for some speed. I can run both my slalom board and my ditch board through this course cleanly. Real cones are not needed for this course, duct tape and beer cups work great. Now all we need to do is figure out the timing system and we've got ourselves a spot for weekly locals-only style banked slalom races with like a $10 entry fee or something like that. Anyone got any input on the timer situation? Is the stopwatch method too crude for weekend races?
