yea, that was a rad ride.to put it in my words, first hanging with the crew(ie;richie steve ,bruce, joe, joe ,kate, maria, alan and sharon)laughing and joking after an awesome day of racing at the trocadero.then, deciding to drop our gear at my hotel 3+miles away, but wait, the street apears to be a long downhill.so we hit the boards and street after street just kept going downhill.a perfect warm summer nite skating with my friends who i have known for 20 plus years ,having the street surfing session of the year.blowin thru the crowds of people as we crossed the sienne, down under the eiffel tower.slipping back into the darkness of an unamed street.when we rolled up to the hotel on a quiet backstreet corner, i realised i had just experienced something special.i had come to paris thinking it was to compete and got something so much more special,a magical session with my friends, all i could think was,THAT WAS RAD.cf

paris is longboarder heaven...
cfavero, sharon and i were hanging out with at the carrasco's appartment somewhere close to the 16th arrondissement (district) one night along with steve olson, bob (the fotog), bruce brewington and joe 'n katie iacovelli's. maria and richie are such great hosts we couldn't thank them enough for their welcoming presence! steve and richie were cracking on each other and anyone within view which had us doubled up in laughter at their fake french accents... at some point we all decided to split to do our own thing so we started walking towards the eiffel tower when it became apparent that the streets were inviting and the roads seemed to be all downhill from there.
at first we kept on the wide sidewalks carving along as if on piste when all of the sudden we busted out into the smooth winding streets of paris. we kept our path on the medium grades as some of them were quite steep so foot braking was sometimes a requirement. we crossed the seine as we approached the eiffle tower and there were all kinds of people milling around the base at about 8 people per 25 sq. ft. density. people slalom was the word of the day as we carved around the well lit area the asphalt wasn't as smooth as the rest of the ride but it was a mild slope with small rollers almost like a well worn mogul run. we rode a couple more miles like this until we got to cfavero's hotel on the west bank and went upstairs to grab a drink. the veiw from his window was majical. it was the eiffel's light show and the perfect ending to the evening.
the french skaters and pretty much everyone we met were quite hospitable as opposed to all the stories i had been hearing about how they were supposed to dislike americans. one thing for sure is that i'm making the promise that i'm going back there again some day.
only the best, alan sidlo

no, I have never checked out that site, but I will now! everything youahve posted has been good.
going to check out some new wheels and hubby still wants a board of his own. but wake season is in full swing..CHAAA CHING $$$$ and now I wakeskated for the first time this past weekend...and I did well, so now I want one of those too!! this getting 'older' thing is getting EXPENSIVE! work to pay for the TOYS! :)

ah vaitus, glad you enjoyed "scabs in wonderland". Yes, I believe that those are real wipe outs and real blood. Amazing that they aren't wearing helmets at those speeds. The other videos on that website are awesome also. Check them out when you get a chance and let me know what you think.
Also, glad you are enjoying Skateboard Madness. It is a classic.
I am enjoying Future Primative, also. It was kind of amazing to see them skate the twin towers.
Did you ever check out the videos section of www.carverskateboards.com? There is a guy skating on an actual surf board. Incredible.
anji - Love your vids. Still looking forward to seeing you skate more. For wheels, go with what vaitus said, Flashbacks (72-75a for your size) for carving and cruising. Something harder (around 85-90a) for sliding. It's good to have several types of wheels. Good single purpose wheels can make a huge difference. Think about some good bearings, too. Good wheels and bearings will make you fly.
Have you ever checked out www.surfacemotion.com? It's an instructional site that might give you some ideas for integrating wake surfing with skateboarding. If you check it out let me know.
Is your husband still grabing your board, or did he get his own yet?
Alan - how is France? What good skate spots have you found? I will be monitoring CNN to see if anyone slaloms down the eiffel tower.
Everyone - what is the surfiest feeling skateboard truck? I have my opinion but I want to know what YOU think. Let me know.

SS, finally checked your skateboard madness dvd, it's AWESOME dude!
Angi you need to check out some softish flashbacks, they are ze most all around wheel money can buy. true story: a friend of mine once ditched his brand new street $40 g's after trying my flashies! Recovered them from the trash, sold them here on ncdsa (if I remember correctly) and split the money with him.
haven't finished watching all those videos on the link you posted, but so far the first one is the most amazing, the narrow paved trail in B.C. is worth a trip....and a helmet too, just watch in the final "wipe out" section what happens when the guy gets highsided and plants his skull on da pave.....I don't know if that's real but looks like an awful lot of blood...strap on your helmet if you're going that fast.

Silversurfer -- I guess you've checked out the boards made by Chuck Barfoot? (@ barfoot.com)
They don't exactly fit your preference for 70s-style shortboards. But as a general recommendation, I cannot say enough good things about these beautiful boards. My Competition Stripe (which isn't shown in the current lineup, but is roughly the same shape as the Micky Munoz) has a nice, fairly deep rocker. It's set up currently with Exkate 201s and 70mm Kryptos. I'm not sure this is the magic formula, or if there is one.
Chuck now sells these boards only as completes -- which might or might not be a good thing -- with Baku trucks and 65mm Kryptos: a setup definitely built for style, not for speed or for heavy carving.
I see there's a new shorter model, the Peggy Oki, 37.5" x 9.5" squaretail, which I kinda wish I hadn't seen, because now I covet one. These boards are just truly beautifully designed and crafted things. The rocker gives them a nice comfortable ride. Wheel bite is a danger if you indulge in big wheels, minimal risers or aggressive turning. Unless it's a choice between one Barfoot or two week's groceries, I say buy one immediately and contemplate at leisure what to do with it.
