Course setting

I finally caved in and bought a 100' measuring tape, like a surveying tape. I have a standard practice course I set, and it helps if you keep a map of distances and offsets, so you can set good courses again. If your hill has no obstacles (manholes, divots, big gnarly cracks) you can map in advance, cause its a hassle to relocate an entire course to clear one bad spot. Put a weight on the bitter end of the tape and stretch it straight down the fall line. walk down and use a second tape to space your offsets. Place your cones, and if you haven't skated the course before, make a small x under any cones you're unsure of. Test skate it, and when you dig it, chalk all the cones. I always use white for test marks and a color for final, so I don't make mistakes. It's also perfectly valid to walk backwards down the hill, (or I guess you could start at the bottom) and just place cones so it'll flow, testing and chalking as you go. Then pull a tape x distance laterally and place the second lane. If you're doing it for practice though, it's nice to track improvement by doing a known course. you also learn alot about setup and how weather conditions affect speed. Good luck.
Antti, Hugh, annonymous posters. If you guys are going to expend the energy to actively pursue a disagreement, at least try to let it be related to skateboarding. It's getting to be unfun for probably all of us except you guys.

it's amazing how people can get thier panties all in a bunch. seems like antti is still feeling bad about being bashed in by arab in the pools and parks forum about the whole parents and sports thing. i too had some things/ thoughts to say on teh whole matter and i also got some somehwhat negative words from the ringmaster Arab. does this mean i hate him? does this mean that i should degrade the ncdsa website with my vulgarity and meaningless posts? is ncdsa going to become another monsterskate forum? i thoguht this all came to a head long ago. give it a break antii and hugh. your old enough to know better than that. i think it is really sad that teh kids that come here (if they really are kids, we don't know any better though do we) have to see grown men acting like 12 year olds calling each other names. sounds to me like it has been kids weekend every day on this board. boo on that.
so the reason for my post is that no one ever told me how you guys measure out cones when you are constructing a course. doyou use tapes? board lengths? what?
sk8 till you die.

Euro-Style 'Extreme' - it's the future

Following on from Mr Stride's comments regarding bottom-feeding...
I only skate slalom courses where the cones are 3 feet apart maximum, and on very steep slopes.
On a good run, as many as 3 cones would typically remain in situ, the others having been knocked flying in the mad scramble to reach the bottom.
When, oh when, will FCR and their ilk adopt this style of racing?
It's great to watch, and injuries are commonplace, making TV coverage a real possibility.
I wondered how our American colleagues feel about adopting this approach?
I mean, with all the 'Real Life Disaster' shows riding high in the ratings, this seems to me the obvious way forward for the sport.
What do you think?

Yet again you show that you can't post without a lie. My post contained no 'foul' language other than the 'kiss my ass' that was lifted from your previous post. Your postings are generally vulgar and insulting, not mine. If kids do read this forum then maybe you should be the one to moderate your posting. I don't post anonymously, my name really is Ross, but I don't give out my email address as I don't want spam.

I wasnt mocking US slalom. Sub 6 foot on hill is possible too. 100 cone 6ft slalom on the Brands Hatch hill has been done, and it wasnt a cone demolition derby either. Me, I only hit the one cone when I attempted it. Euro slalom will never be the death of slalom, it sustained it over the last few years, ask the Swiss.. It is a FACT that American slalom is often wider than that done by the rest of the world. My "bottom feeding" attempts alongside the others at the worlds open class produced 3 out of 5 Euros in the top 5 on the Sunday. This was becuase the course was tighter, though the course was still wider than the Euros would have liked. At the risk of rankling you, is the real reason why US courses are so wide becuase your scared of losing to Europeans if the 'Worlds' courses actually reflect the kind of course raced around the "World". We have been kind enough to offer that if an American comes to race at Brands Hatch they will be welcome to set an American style course so that we can learn from you. Next time you see Floyd at a race ask him to set a course in return. Love the forum, take care Arab!

Arab,
Unless you have compelling evidence linking Mr. Brax to multiple murders, repeatedly refering to him as "serial killer" is perpetuating an "untruth", and we know how much you're opposed to those.
And while using an arguably tasteless saying like "they should all be taken out and shot" isn't a necessarily crime, spreading "untruths" about someone is...

Arab, your kid doesn't even read this forum regularly. You just make him write here when it supports your cause.
And you got the nerve to call yourself a good parent.
You're not. Go back to your little baseball team and "coach" the kids a bit more.

Sorry eric... YOU are responsible for the direction of YOUR forum... and I will post here anytime that refrence is made to me.
For years you have attacked people and berated them and spread ill will on these and other skating forums.
You don't really think that the other forums that you and your buds have posted up on over the years won't impact how people will treat YOUR forum do you?
I have read many of your vile posts that have been quickly deleted by the mods on the ncdsa.
But now that it's your forum, you want everyone to play nice? Call your dogs off and I'll leave you alone... if your dogs keep nipping at my heels, then I'll keep posting on your forum as I feel the need or desire to say something. Call off your dogs and I'll stay out of your area... unless you come and write something obnoxious somewhere else in response or refrence to me (or your dogs do)
So quit thinking about me... quit worrying that I am going to try and destroy the oust empire... forget about me and call off your dogs, then I'll back off too. If not... sorry sadam, it'll stay on... HR
