Do you wanna race?

Jack Smith has graciously allowed me to coordinate a race for kids 14 and under and amateur women in Paso Robles April 12. Also, there will be a Pro Women catagory in which prize money is available as long as there are at least 4 entries.

The kids and amateur women's course will be lower on the hill, single lane, best time of 3 runs. We will have check in at 7:30am and race from 8am-9am. Goodie bags and awards for all participants. Fee just $15.

The Pro Women will race the same course as the Pro Men and Open. As long as there are 4 entries in this catagory, the prize money will be distributed per Jack. If there are 3 or less entries the Women can enter either the Pro or Open Catagory. Entrie fee same as Pro and Open (see contest calendar)

OK Kids and Ladies, sign up or e-mail me for more info.

kids day
On 3/8/2003 Sasha wrote in from (64.156.nnn.nnn)

I wonder how many kiddos are up this early on a Saturday morning???I watched Tonys part in "In Bloom" last nite so I'm amped to skate all day. Gary Holl was nice enough to invite me to join him and company for practice today at the Shoreline. It's a great day weatherwise so we're down for the two hour drive. Plus we always hit Krispy Kreme on the way down so that makes it worth the drive :) Just what I need, sugar first thing in the morning.

Finally finished the footage for the Gravity video I've been working on all week. Would like to film at Vans today, but that's a no-go. Tried sneaking the camera over the fence before and that got put to a stop real quick. You'd think they would encourage it so that in the background of all these videos would be the vans logo. Free advertising. Who knows what they think. My mom tried to take photos for the Vision web site at the CASL state finals and they were like, no, we don't want photos taken at Vans on the Vision site. Wierd.

Any other kids up getting read for interesting skating adventures today?? I'd like to know how the other kids spend their weekends. I'm sure Nathan's out doing a demo somewhere....

Russell..are you still alive? Have you ever heard anything from that guy that filmed us at the Encinitas Y?

I wish we had the wheels we have now back when I was a kid. You kids got it good. Grown ups? let a kid ride your board. Invite them to the races, set a kid course to get 'em started. They're whats gonna keep it going forward...

On 3/7/2003 Arab wrote in from (24.24.nnn.nnn)

As a Matter of Fact, it all matters!

Geezer- At this time my only planned trip back east will be the Kona Bank Slalom. Again it will be an all California Sweep(Sorry Cabbage), and probably even worse then last year since Chicken is going this year.

Olson-Always better ever then before, even during and after, thanx!

Senor' Cabbage. Got stuff I can't get out of and must bag Vans tonite. you'll rep for the Outlaws I'm sure. Hope your trip is a good one. We'll miss you on Saturday at the Park & Ride.
Arab; Best "how to course set" I've seen. Sounds like you'd actually dig our DC courses. I mean, we're still not fast enough to put up a fight, but anytime you're headed east...

After Midnite, Is Steve gonna let it all hang out, let it all hang it!

Mike-I never use a tape measure unless its called for, instances such as laying out a Cyber Challenge course or dupilicating a course for dual racing, I useally just step it off
2 small steps =6'
2 large=8'
and so on.........
Basically I set courses like this
6 straight
7-10' 6" to 1' offset
10-14' 1' to 3' offset
14-20' 3' to 5' offset
20-30' 5' to 8' offset
30-40' 8' to ?

None of this is in stone and each hill will dictate what, where and how a course gets set.

Each cone will dictate how far the next offset or down the fall line the next cone will go.

setting a Hybrid course is the funnest for me, useally you work and drive through the whole thing and have some offsets and such to add some spice to it, you can run this type of course on any hill, it will give you the elements of TS and GS and makes for good practice, I'll start with 6' straight, maybe 10-15 cones? add a 1' offset at about 9' back to center with 3 more 6' straight, 2' offset at 12', 2' offset at 12', 3 straight at 7', 1' offset at 10', 1' offset at 10', if the hill drops into a steeper section I'll open it up,
9' straight, 4'offset at 16', 4' offset at 16 and so on!

Hope this helps ya! remember, its all according to your skill and the hill. If the hill is to steep for 6' straight, use 7', the Cyber Challenge 6' 25 cones is good practice and could be set just about anywhere.

Curious George-Everyday is Olson day after midnite, Last night he posted 7 times around 3 am pacific, moderators were working overtime and had to delete them all. I guess you'll never know, unless you stay and play?

Binky-Turn it Off, turn it on Baby! cause its ON, KONA!!!!!!!!!! are you gonna get them floridians to come out and defend their turf this year? Free Kona Dog specials to any floridian that can beat me in the banked slalom.......

Courses
On 3/6/2003 Sillybilly wrote in from (64.12.nnn.nnn)

The reason why you dont see our crew running cyber races is we have hills and great weather! Our cone spacing is a bit larger because we run full speed! For tight about 6ft6 to 7 8 for offsets. FCRs slalom course at Morro is not how we run it! Although that same setting at Avlilla probably would have had you wankers trembling!
