thanks Jeff,
I am just relieved you got it! you should see the next one... Ditches, Duane Peters, Jim Goodrich portfolio, Bull Dog profile....and after that Swiss Longboarding... plus, TONS more stuff...I am frantically trying to push this to 100 pages for the January issue...
the next issue hits November... please, do me a favor, call or email the advertisers and say you saw their ad in Concrete Wave!
they would love the feedback....
and of course, if we are missing any one (hello Powell?! Mr. Bennett? Santa Cruz?) feel free to point them to the site and media kit section!
cheers michael

Taking leaves from my backyard to the treelawn in a garbage can on a skateboard and then riding it back fall of 98. Summer, went to Fort Collins Colorado and saw these really long boards and went to a local skate shop. My jaw dropped and I bought a copy of International Longboarder. I got more stoked. That was pretty much it, and I have to say a lot of it was due to IL because I had seen recent issues of skateboarder and had no idea anything like IL or it's contents was happening. I now own over 50 boards, mostly slalom, longboards and a bunch of vintage stuff although I just got my own portable quarter pipe. Just ask Glen at Solid Skate (glen rules) who his biggest spending customer is. Yeah I've got it bad and I am the guy who always has the car loaded and ready to go at the drop of a hat. Just went to the gravity games here in Cleveland and just can't believe Gravity or Dregs or SOMEONE doesn't have a booth! What a drag! If someone could spend the dough and have a good booth with longboards, slalom boards, Abec11, Seismic, some retro stuff, whatever....Alva, Bulldog Skates Deathbox...whatever....some people like myself cruising around on the stuff, with free copies of concrete wave to hand out and a huge TV showing Mollica's slalom DVD's, sliding and longboard videos, there would be an enormous crowd. I mean I literally did not see one single longboard or slalom board or ANYTHING that most of us are interested in. All the same junk. I know for a fact the younger cats I've ridden with and turned on to my stuff are totally overwhelmed at how cool it is and just have NO IDEA that it even exists. Sure it's a market driven thing but it's not that they don't want this stuff, I really think they just don't know anything else exists. The free slim Jims were awesome though.

In 1996 or so, I was up late one night, having one too many, and surfing around the web. Through some glorius act of serendipity I came upon a website called Skategeezer. I sent this Canadian hack an email about doing some graphics for site...
It's 2003 and I can't get rid of the bastard.

the magic number is 5 you get 5 issues...for $15! our page count is going up too!
I actually co-published a magazine called International Longboarder. I think many folks enjoyed it...I certainly had a blast putting it together.
The only problem was that it really was a niche within a niche. Concrete Wave showcases ALL types of skateboarding... with one exception - we don't show a lot of rails and ledges. We figure the other 19 skate magazines around the world are doing a pretty good job of covering that world!
Mike Moore, our associate editor wrote a very nice piece on longboarding as a "gateway drug." Longboards are very addictive, as you will soon discover. But what you'll also find is that they lead to things like slalom, pool, freestyle, ditches..and before you know it, you are a full on 100% skateboard maniac like the rest of us!
I'd like to see some posts about how you got back into skateboarding...
here's another way to think about the mag
5 issues...$15 stamp...65 cents
having a magazine that showcases a WIDE VARIETY of skateboarding - priceless

Boards are in the car always! I am fortunate because my job is 75% out of the office in the first place. I'm in my car between customers all day and if I happen to pass a skatepark on my travels, then I deserve a break as much as the smokers in my office take 15 - 20 every other hour.

I had my new issue Vol.2#2 in the mail last monday and I was blown away.Chaput on the cover; well no it is the ad on the back, but still impressive. The mag keeps getting better and better! Great! I used to collect all those mags but stopped it. CW mag is one of the few subscriptions that I have and it is worth every cent! Props to Michael for publishing such a great mag. Olschool style is the new trend for 2004; so be prepared. I get lots of inquiries from people that got back into Freestyle and want to buy products from me; cool. On Oct. 25th-03 we will have a big Flatland Freestyle World Championsships here in Germany. Check out www.freestyle-skateboarding.de

Okay, it was not in high-def, but I was on a roll with acronyms. This afternoon I saw the episode with the Hastings Bowl, which looks like a very cool place, my Ohio man Brewce Martin and his Skatopia craziness, and Steve Alba doing bad things to a guitar and great things to a pool. Great stuff, man, I can't believe we get to see such good skate action on TV. Oh, there was downhilling/sliding also! I can't do that stuff (no hills in Fla) but it is cool to see the other sides of skateboarding. Apparently, you can do things on a skateboard that don't begin with ollie-ing it! In other Fuel TV news, the show called "Fusion" had coverage of some big surf and skate event in Va Beach, with the Soul Bowl. Is that from last year? Anyway, very cool alternative to the regular vert ramp competition, featuring Mike McGill winning handily. I even saw my friend and our local hero and inspiration, Mike Rogers (MR) shredding as usual, on camera. Fuel TV rocks.

Just to let you all know that I've been talking with Mike from Concrete Wave about getting his great mag down here in New Zealand (currently they send 500 copies to Oz). We're looking at bulk shipping copies out to New Zealand and then me mailing them out from here to save on postage and bring the cost down. Should be able to do a 12 month (5 issues) sub for NZ$45.00-50.00 (currently about NZ$70.00) though the more subscriptions we can do, the cheaper it'll be. So if anyone is interested drop me an e-mail at nzscm@ihug.co.nz If you're having trouble finding it in Oz let me know, maybe we can include you guys in this too.

Yes, Michael, I just finished 2 episodes that were waiting on TIVO for me. I have seen probably a 6 to 10 episodes now, and it rules! Tonight's were cool ones: The visit to Burnquist's ramp was very cool, and the interview with the effervescent M Brooke on the other was interesting. You are one handsome guy, dude! What's with the hanging off the fire escape thing? I have really enjoyed seeing stuff like SAlba in a pool, the Kona park, and other round-wall related stuff. Kind of a lot of kick-flipping at little competitions, but it is TV, I guess. I just can't believe how much skateboarding I'm getting to watch on TV, without Sal Masakela calling it. Fuel TV rocks! I sort of wish the shows were newer, but hey, it's so much better than once a year x-games! I just saw the new issue of CW at Alan's ramp (I mean RAMP)- on Saturday - it just keeps getting better! Really nice work, Mister Brooke. By the way, your story a few issues back on Alan's ramp needs a part II - it's now the most beautiful BOWL I've ever seen. It's either mellow or gnarly, depending on how you want to skate it.
I like the CWTV...

Ah, yes, Strength magazine. The skateboard magazine that wasn't really about skateboarding. The skateboard magazine about the periphery of skateboarding, where the poseurs sit, playing their skateboard video games and wearing their S***f**e and I***p**d**t clothes their mom bought them at the mall.
I'm not sorry to see it go. Really, I'm not.

remember....
