I'm waiting for a longboard friendly skatepark within 60 miles of my home... something with a huge snake run... sort of a skatercross on steroids. Also something with giant bowls with nice roll in's for those of us who don't have the drop in from vert thing down.
As far as shoes go... I'd just like Vans to have more sales on the models of shoes that I like... never seem to have them in the 39.95 special.
Dead guys? Only a couple I'd care to see again... my dad and my buddy bob... I miss both of them. HR

1. I don't care much for the skate park. Most of that 100,000 feet would be a street course. All I need is a mini ramp, maybe a small full pipe, and a small shallow bowl.
2. What would a downhill skate shoe be? Something with more sole on the bottom? Don't we have those already?? Creepers, Elevator shoes?
3. I've never been a Joe Strummer fan, Joey and DeDe are cool, but I would prefer John Entwhistle and Keith Moon to magically return for the Magic Bus tour.

...waiting a long time ago.
1) Worked on the first local park around here way back in '77 and the last park was finished in 2003.
2) Shoes, well don't have the energy ($$$) for that. Not that it hasn't been considered.
3) Can't do anything about the dead. Except celebrate their contributions.
4, 5, 6, etc...)A lot of other projects in the works but had great luck having tackled a dooozie recently having created the adjustable angled riser pad. Just hoping now that some people won't be waiting too long for that.

so, i was checking out Borders the other day checking if they had and concussion magazines for an upcoming plane ride and i see that there is one concrete wave magazine left on the rack, and it is a new one! i am bummed and stoked at this point. why didn't i get my copy, especially before the retail stores had theirs? but then again, new CW! and the best one to date to boot! very good issue michael! it will provide much stoke over the next few months. but where is my copy i paid for with my subscription? dosen't matter i guess because i ended up with one regardless. but very good issue, the writing has improved a lot, along with the pictures. keep them coming! later Sk8er,

you raise a valid point, Jordan. an influx of $$$ will kill some of the down to earth and genuine spirit that is a part of this movement...
However, keeping things in check is the fact that even if this thing (slalom, bowlriding, longboarding etc, old school resurgence) was to quadruple in size, it would still be fairly small relative to the regular short board world ( or the surf or snow board world!)
let me put things in perspective...
one issue of Transworld ad revenue is more than I will see in 5 years of publishing Concrete Wave!
I'd like things to get bigger, but I am too old to remember what it was like was nothing was happening...a lone old school skater trapped in some time warp.
so, we make our own fun...ignored by the mainstream skate media (and sometimes put down)
every dog has their day...

I like the way things are. you got your toe-flippers, fine whatever, but the best part is the resugence of slalom and old school, thats awsome. I also like were we've gone with respect to technology in downhill and longboarding in general. It's big but not to big, thats just the rebel skater in me. Micheal and others, who peruse this site listening to the buzz taking mental notes, may or may not agree. It's about skateboarding 1st earning a living would be a benefit, ALTHOUGH, I just skate I don't have to pay my bills from it. It's like the Grateful Dead story for me. In the late 70s and early 80s, I was there for the music and total experience. Then in the late 80s & early 90s to many people who had nothing better to do and didn't know the HISTORY made the ride go sour.
IT'S ALL ABOUT SOUL. Peace, Jordan

ok,
so, I new that one was going to arise...well done GOB!
anyway, speaking of "waiting"
what is the one thing you are waiting for in the world of skateboarding...
1)a new 100,000 square foot skatepark in your local town? 2) skate shoes to be created for non-toe flippers - ie downhill 3) the magical return of Joe Strummer and Joey Ramone ...
come on, what is the one thing we're still waiting for?

August 1976...I was riding 2 boards, a Continental "Jaws" kicktail, and my brand new Fibreflex/trackers/roadriders board...while cruising the Fibreflex on the infamous "Concussion Special" local hill, which had hash marks on it's pavement, I get done with a run only to find my Jaws board gone...now...this was just a plastic board...26.00 brand new...but it was my first board...I ended up in the local medical center from riding that board....I learned what high speed wobble was on that board, I learned 360's, kickturns, nosewheelies, etc on that board..and I carried it everywhere up until that faithful day...it felt like loosing my first girl...I was bummed that much...

Thoughts... on religion

Guess the closest this guy gets to believing in anything is in the incredible power of the mind. Most of what people seem to call karmic balance translates to something more similar to mentally induced revenge or just rationalizations thereof. At least that’s how it always seems to be portrayed.
A good rule of thumb for retrieving a lost or stolen item seems to be the act of just setting it free to “return” on its own accord. This has a funny way of working with living organisms as it does with inanimate objects.
Something about religions is that I’ll choose to believe in as much as the person next to me chooses to because there again one encounters the ultimate powers of thought. You can see this happen in skating all the time. If a rider releases the outcome to the finality of a maneuver there is no chancing that the impossible can be overcome. It really goes beyond thinking and more into the realm of believing.
How do I know all this...
...I don’t.

Karmic wheel

The wheel can turn fast indeed. Flash to 1978. My new Rockit board arrives and I hastily assemble it. Beautiful maple ply and glorious Rockit sticker top and bottom. Grip, trucks, wheels, in minutes, and then out back to the ramp, where the usual afternoon crowd has gathered.Alas, before I can get my turn, the neighborhood bully Jeff Tarbot (Tar Butt), rips the board out of my hand, laughing, and takes a run, knowing full well its brand new. Naturally, some laughing god or another takes a dim view (can a laughing god take a dim view ? ), and Tarbot slams ridiculously hard onto his tailbone. Now I'm laughing so hard I can barely see. Apparently laughing at even a fallen bully is not good form, so of course my board, now on its way down from being kicked out hard, hits the coping full bore and the nose shatters.

another question...it's about KARMA

I am a great believer in karma... and something happened on Saturday that led me to think that there is a very positive force within my world of skateboarding....
just for the record I am not a very religious person...but I do believe that many actions do have consequences. Some of these consequences are painful and some reinforce your belief in humanity.
here's my example...i'd like to hear more
So, I am yapping on the phone about a new project and leave my very expensive LOADED longboard outside (complete with Randals, Krypto's and Terminator bearings)...I go inside without the board...my wife brings in our 2 year old and forgets to mention the board is outside...
Wake up Sunday morning looking for the board...it's gone...
So, I start screaming...."it's bad karma to steal a board...whoever took it will be in big trouble..."
I freak the whole day...pissed at the demon who took it...and being miserable that I lost such a great board. Fast forward to about 7pm that night... Knock on the door...it's one of the neighbors kids.
"I was out last night on my bike and I saw you left your board outside... here it is."
What a relief. What a nice way to end the day.
So, anyone else experienced something like this? It has to be skate related....

That it appears to be Debs' company makes supporting them (along with CW) all the nicer.

If I had a million dollars I'd...
Buy CW #4 and 5
Pay off my house and open a really cool bike and skate shop.
Invest some in something stable.
Use some of the extra time I have from not needing to work 3000 hrs a year to help other people.
And these days, a million bucks is hardly worth establishing a charitable trust with. If there's some left over, and my wife outlives me, she has an excellent social conscience and will do good things with it.

Does *anybody* *anywhere* have a copy of #5 They'd sell me? Am I going to get #6 in the mail? I'd happily pay a second time for my subscription and write off the Skate Club tie in subscription as a capital loss, but I'd like to know I'm not going to miss anymore issues...
How bout this. I'll swap a set of cool 1980's no-name double conical lime green wheels for a #5 and #6 CW. I'm that serious.

welcome to the wonderful world of publishing!
if you put out 12,000 copies of a magazine onto the magazine racks and 50% sell through, you have yourself a BIG PARTY!!!!
yep, the poor shredders are busy all the time destroying unsold stock.
The new issue - vol 2 no 1 will be at barnes and noble by July 15...the old one will be taken out and sent to aforementioned shredder.
So, if you want to see a bigger magazine, go out and buy as many copies of the magazine as you can...
With our next issue, you will see it at more places...remember, it's taken 1 year to get on the newsstand.
As I keep telling everyone, we are only half way there with the mag. The next issue will feature wider format and a few other surprieses. I believe that we will be a 75% of the way there with this upcoming issue.
So, spread the word and instead of buying coffee and donut, pick up a copy of the mag....once they're gone, they're gone!

Michael, I`ll have you to know that I went to my local Barnes and Noble to see if they had the latest CW. I was pleasently surprised that they had a copy of the last issue. Since I lacked the hard cash (end of day and only had credit card) I didn`t pick it up but will so today (even though I already have it).
I asked the counter help as to when the new issue will arrive. Here`s what she said..."we receive 3 issues bimonthly with the last shipment in may. No knowledge of when latest will arrive. Our computers can`t track magazines like books and we can only guess...) So when will it arrive? Also she said..."when the new issues arrive, we pull the old issues.." so that`s why I`m gonna pick up the last issue in stock. No need for it to go back to the printers to be destroyed (and charged back).
Which leaves me wondering, just who bought the 2 issues in my area? Do they longboard? Do they slalom?
Interesting. Very interesting...

Hey now girlie gurl, It's 02:24 CST and your thoughts are keeping me up as well...
The lab is starting to seem like the product of a mad scientist as the ultrasonic fog bank wafts tendrills of the nutrient plasma all about me and the mesmerizing faint glow of the array grid performs its duty in utter silence, providing discrete wave lengths to the target zones. Getting on the computer makes me feel a little dangerous so maybe its just time for a skate. Fighting thoughts of hijacking this forum raises the question about what really matters...
