email ranting has been going on for a while...quick transcript below:[i:h1h4s9xs]Ian Cranfield to pigcityslalom show details 20:40 (28 minutes ago) I think we should open up a bit more i will make sure i use UK slalom site, there is a pig city group on face book. I guess we need to stream line coms!!! E[/i:h1h4s9xs][i:h1h4s9xs]Mmedo Duffort to pigcityslalom show details 21:04 (4 minutes ago) I still think that NCDSA has to be the forum of choice as it generates most of the slalom traffic world wide. another thing to keep in mind if you are trying to get our number growing is that people who come to slalom late do not start their search by "pig city slalom skateboard" nor "london slalom"...what you will find is that the longboard community is bringing huge numbers to us as they are generally educated to the benefit of soft urethane.i think it is when people start thinking about the gear they ride that they discover slalom as forums will be debating the benefit of this compound or that geometry. this is why, in my humble opinion, NCDSA did so well in the first place and has proceeded to shoot itself in the bearings...where everything was there to be seen at once, it is now hidden by layers of admin / subsection.I continue using it because it remains an enormous repository of knowledge / information on all things on soft wheels.ps: munchh, where the f have you been; it's good to have you back.pps: Ian, you rad pig city No1![/i:h1h4s9xs][i:h1h4s9xs]Mmedo Duffort to pigcityslalom show details 21:06 (2 minutes ago) damn emails that you can't edit once they've gone.... on all things on soft wheels, but the magic has gone.[/i:h1h4s9xs]Rob Ashby to Paul, Louis, sam, Sam, nigel, pigcityslalom show details 21:00 (9 minutes ago)[i:h1h4s9xs] Thats half the battle too many forums to look on - we should just use the NCDSA "UK latest" thread like we used to use the old style single thread. All banter, p*ss taking etc. should go there then we know where we stand? Whaddya reckon?Anything Pig City oriented in detail can be put on your thread with just a mention on the "UK Latest" one - I'm just thinking out loud.....[/i:h1h4s9xs][i:h1h4s9xs]Mmedo Duffort to pigcityslalom show details 21:07 (2 minutes ago) i'm all with you rob over to the NCDSA forum then...[/i:h1h4s9xs]

A skate race in the UK - iffy, surely not?Well if it is damp we can sit and drink coffee and work out what we are going to do for three days at "X in the City" in October - which is indoors and can't be affected by the weather! Kids Race.If the Kids come up on the Saturday to race to find out it has been postponed untill the Sunday it could cause problems, eg the kids {parents} had not planned to stay over night {Saturday}.What hill is the kids race going to be on and what format? hybrid, tight?Last years grom tight race was fun {although slams and tears} and easy to do. Should be kept the same if not on the same section then running out from just infront of club house towards exit?Thoughts please.Dominic

Yeah well up for a skate, should be down there for half six. Want to give my knees a test before hogs hill (got bursitis in the bastards, hence my lack of HP attendance this summer!). Don't think I can make Q&A though.

I think that is right - from the 'Contests' link at the top of this page:Freeride: The track will be open for freeride on the back hills from 12:30pm on Friday and all day Saturday. The Giant Slalom will be run on the main downhill run on Sunday, so freeride will not be possible. Loose-truck speed-merchants, however are encouraged to give the GS a go.Kids Race: will be run on Saturday afternoon following the hybrid. If the Hybrid is overunning then the Kids race will take place after the GS on Sunday.Dual & GS Slalom:Setup for the Hybrid Dual Slalom - Friday will start at 12:00 noon. This will include the putting up of ramps, course setting and laying down of timing gear. Open practice will be run from 1:00pm (earlier if possible) with qualifying starting at 1:30pm. Qualifying will be the best time of two runs, one run in each lane. Starting for qualifying will be individually timed, but in order to keep up the racing impetus, racers are requested to go within ten seconds of being permitted on course, with parallel qualifying preferred (ie: racers going together ASAP). Time and numbers (and weather) permitting, there will then be bracketing into two groups of 16, A and B Groups. If there are any delays then a single bracket of top 16 will be arranged.Starting in the heats will then be via the standard European system of 'five second warning, ' where, once racers are ready, a start will ensue at any point within the next five seconds. Anyone DEEMED to be jumping the start will be given just one verbal warning before being given the DQ penalty of 10per cent of the fastest qualifying time. Cone penalty will be 0.1 seconds per cone. If a cone is hit and remains either touching or in part of its circle then it is not to be counted as a penalty. If a cone is out of place on your run, then pull out of the course and raise your hand immediately. If cones are knocked out in front of you by the opposition's cones then do likewise. A rerun will occur. If these rules are deemed to be abused, then the organiser's delegated referee decision will be final. Even if wrong. Please can competitors cone-marshall on their way back up the hill to the start. There will be four posts dividing sections of the course. Move up one position after each race. Please offer to cone-marshall even if you have been knocked out of the competition. The heats go through very quickly as the final approached and accurate marshalling is critical.GS - Sunday: We have the track from 9:00am onwards on Sunday, so setup of the course will begin then, using the hill that backs onto the hybrid course. It will consist of a single lane timed run with start ramp. Each racer will have three runs (time permitting) with the best of these runs counting as final time. A Top Gear style leader board will show the best riders and times to beat. Again, it is preferred that a competitor goes within ten seconds of the course being open to them, choosing within that slot the best start moment given prevailing conditions.Again, it is requested that competitors assist in cone-marshalling on their return up the course.Mandatory: all riders must wear a helmet when on the track. No helmet, no riding.Let's get rolling!

We just finished the World Championships held near Prague in the Czech Republic. http://sk8slalomworlds.com/It was an intense week end - for the GS at Vysoke Chvojno it rained all day and we waited until 8pm when it dried out enough to have a single run of the bottom part of the GS. Friday at Tylovo nabrezi was a 50 cone flat tight in the centre of town, and Sunday at Hradec Kralove had a fast 80 cone hybrid on a hill. Only 2 practice runs were allowed before racing.Czech TV filmed it and the racing will look great. People in the bar said they had seen us racing on TV.The organisers promised to mail all the competitors a compilation DVD.Team GB suffered from lack of training. As Mika from Sweden told me, training without ramps and timing gear is not training. All the top riders train with timing, and ramps too. How else can you discover what works? In between runs other teams were changing wheels, boards, truck angles and bushings because they knew what would work to make them faster on that particular course and road surface. The level of all the competitors was really good and the racing fantastically close. There were no easy rounds. I remember thinking on the Sunday that if I could have improved my qualifying time of 22.9 by only 0.5 seconds I would have qualified 5th instead of 12th place. I am sure every other racer was thinking the same way! Thanks to Sam, Louis, Mick and Ella for the good company. Kudos to Louis for racing fast all weekend. Ella was just off the podium. If I could offer you only one tip for the future it's to train with ramps and timing equipment before a big race (and wear sunscreen).
