I got the guys out at Tahoe Longboards to put some R-IIs on a complete Tallac 62". Matt from Tahoe Longboards wrote me telling me that after their team tried the R-II setup right next to the standard Indy 166 setup and I guess all those guys prefered the indys but Im pretty stoked with the Randals. Matt from Tahoe said they got wheel bite with the Randals but so far I haven't, of course I don't ride in Tahoe. I haven't put the set up to the full test yet as I am injured from mountainboarding but I've had it up to decent speed, 20mph I would guess no wobble, I have double angled risers under the R-IIs and Kryptos. I've been doing a lot of surf style carving partly because Im still not fully healed and partly because I'm not used to having 2 feet of board behind me trailing through the turns and its pretty fun. Because there is no weight over the back wheels the slide really easily but not uncontrolably. Ill post more once Im fully recovered and put the board to the test, i'll prolly try it with indys eventually like Matt suggested too. Later

I want to thank everybody that took the time to suggest the perfect city board. Today I am the proud owner of a 44"x 9 1/4" Lib Technologies. I put Randall II's on, black panther bearings (abec3) and Krypto Hawaii 70mm wheels. The Flexdex at the shop felt nice but there was something aesthetically missing from them... The Motherlode Baja I found beautiful, but I really wanted a kicktail, and I felt funny about buying my first longboard without ever having stood on it. You have to admit the Real Wood boards are SEXY, but again Ive never seen one up close besides I dont think a broke beginner like me has any business buying a 300+$ ANYTHING... I finally got on a S9 Super Cruiser and I thought I would go with that until I got on this Lib Tech and what can I say, it felt like love at first sight. The level of craftmanship is stunning, and not only can you SEE it but boy can you FEEL it! The RII's are MIND BLOWING, I thought I was carving this whole time on my crappy little board!! ha ha ha I didnt know what carving on asphalt was until today. I really feel like I can turn out of harms way in a flash, and Im powering over city crud like I never thought possible. This is a whole new level of fun for me, you should see me giggling to myself like a freak through the crowded sidewalks and streets of nyc. I feel like I have to relearn my stance on the board, I was riding too far back on the board so i almost went ass over head a few times after kicking my rear wheels also my center of gravity feels higher up, so Im still shakey at times. I'd be glad to recieve any riding tips...... HELLAHAPPY, maria

I just got an Envy twintip longboard. It's the hottest carving board I've ever used. I am 5'10 and 170 lbs and it holds up great. Trucks are powerful and strong enough for me. I am interested in anyone's comments about this new board. I live in the D.C. suburbs, surf most weekends in NJ when the swells are in, but otherwise I am riding the hills in Montgomery County, MD. I am looking for other Longboarders in my area to ride with, so drop me a message if you are interested.

Brian, I don't know where you were last weekend but me and the boys were skating down by the boardwalk. We are all riding our longbords. Most people stop and notice us when we ride. I want to say that we were all on the Tahoe boards but we have a friend still on a S9. I have nothing bad to say about S9 except they don't have the soul that I loved when I first started riding thier boards. They hooked me as the "first longboard company" and I still have some of thier originals. I am bummed that they have strayed so far from the begining. I am happy with my Tahoe board but I hope they keep it real. I have heard noting but good things about them. That is why I will keep riding them as long as they keep making solid, smooth riding boards. I will always be on the search for a good ride, the Tahoe boards are the best that I have come across but my mind is always open. I bought my first Tahoe board from Skateworks in Santa Cruz but have since visited thier web site at www.tahoelongboards.com. I think you can order direct but if you are in the Santa Cruz area check out Skateworks, those guys are hella cool.

Hey I set up some Xts with some indy 215s half inch risers stacked with some angled risers and some MBS freeflex bindings, the actual deck is just an old shortboard deck but since everything else is setup like a longboard i thought I would review it. Scary as hell is all I can say, the bindings aren't as easy in and out as the XT sky hooks but I thought that would be good. What I keep doing is falling off the back because the tail doesn't hit the ground for a lot longer than a standard skateboard due to the risers and the bindings don't let you take your front foot off when this starts to happen. the setup doesn't turn very well cause i have to keep the indys cranked to prevent wheel bite but its fun none the less just not in traditional longboard terms. I don't think so. I weigh nearly 200 lbs and I find the flex of the supercruiser just right, although I'm not a beginner. Unless Maria is unusually heavy for a woman, she may even find the sc a little too stiff, and may want to consider a cosmic II (so long as we're talking S9), if she wants to pump and turn fast. If cruising is the main concern, a super cruiser would do her very nicely. I suggest she sets it up with some soft wheels. I started with some old 92A wheels from the 80s I had kicking around, and when I switched to the 78A Kryptonics it made a huge difference.

what's the right board for me?

Well, I've been thinking about buying a longboard. I'm not into the skateboarding at all, but I would really like to be able to "control" a longboard. My question is: what is the right board for me? Because I want to use it for cruising around town and maybe do some little tricks with, like an ollie. What would u recommend me? Something like an S9 Cosmic I or II, or an S9 Supercruiser, or something like a Bare Back Performance. Please tell which board is right for me, because I want to ride it for a long time (if possible) and not have to buy a new one after 3 weeks or so. E-mail me, if you can help me out

I think the supercruiser is going to be too flexy and maybe a little twitchy for a beginner is NYC. You might consider something a little stiffer and heavier. A little extra weight helps maintain momentum to power over the crud and a stiffer deck is a little more predictable. The RII's are a great choice- probablly the best. A hardwood deck would stand up well to the abuse and do a nice job of dampening the bumps. Wheels should be big ( 70mm or more )preferably something soft with a 10mm spacer ( nice and quiet ). Email me if you want some more ideas or specifics.

can anybody give me feedback on a longboard for NYC riding? I'm almost sold on a Super Cruiser W/ RII's. I need: *something stable (i'm pretty much a beginner) *something that will ride over all kinds of city crud *something fast to keep up with traffic but not too fast, because NYC is home of the 2 foot carve and i might wind up taxi-meat. sincerely, maria "don't talk to me about rollerblades" martinez

Well, I posted about the Slater 40 a few days ago, and I stand by my opinion: I like it. Admittedly, I'm not bombing hills on it. I use it mostly for long, wide turns at fairly slow speeds, more carving than anything else. It's a very different feel from anything else I've ridden but after riding a few other boards, I've yet to find anything that's more fun in its class. And I've yet to achieve wheelbite. I'll admit it's heavy though....

if feel for you injuries my man, but there's no need to get hostile over something i surely didn't say or imply. i did say, pretty clearly, that i can make almost ANY board bite, just that some are harder to get into that state. i can for sure make any flexdex i've put my feet on bite hard and fast. same goes for quite a few other decks. is there a deck that can't bite? tell me, i'll try it out. however, in sampling about 25 decks in stores, just standing on the damn thing, i can usually make the wheels and deck contact.
as for "ruling"; i rule my own personal style and challenge myself. i learn from my fellows and enjoy what i do. i'm also a chicken and don't go faster than 35mph and wear full pro as well. i'm also told that since my longest board is only 44", i'm not a real longboarder yet. *grin* it's all about carving for me. what's your bag?

i think the world i ride in will include a plentiful quiver of boards, each with their own quirks and personalties that i will learn to love and hate and respect.
flexdex material is heavy no doubt. i think that's part of their charm. they have good momentum, they are pretty stable, and i like the dampening characteristics. first time i picked up a pro41 i said "shit, this is a beast", but it didn't stop me from buying it. the g&s 44" is lighter and rides different. i love both.
if you don't like heavy boards, why did you buy it? esp with gullwings?
design... what is a better design? i offered suggestions for fixing the slater, which seems to be a damn fine board, with a fair amount of though put into it. it has characteristics very similar to other boards. in fact, it's profile is practically a classic.
= sh$t. I made the mistake of riding this board one to many times, I will never make that mistake again. There are too many other companies = that make boards far superior to this crap.
which other companies? i'll check those out. i'm sure you can sell the slater to a waiting line of people who don't know better.

models: isn't it the Slater 40? the current flexdexes that are 41 are the wingnut and the pro. the older pro, no longer in production, was 36 and a blue/grey color. simply lovely.
wheel bite: i haven't stepped on a deck yet, that didn't give me the impression that i coulnd't make it wheel-bite if i *really* tried. the new G&S pintails are very very difficult to do that with (one of the best i've seen for nose carveouts; the tail is *so* thin, it can't bite).
suggestion: tighten the trucks a little, flex the board more, and don't tilt it quite as much. let the deck do the "work". this tip does wonders on the flexdex rippey36 board i ride. yeah, i can make it bite, but it's rough going. the pro41 is difficult to stop that way too, the slater looks like it has more of a point, less grab. it might be possible to do a little carving work to fix the issue too. soft material to carve out.
