I know that this is an impossible question. I know pretty much everyone here is an advocte of the quiver theory.
But, if for some reason you could only have ONE complete board set up, what would it be?
What deck, trucks, wheels and bearings would you choose if it would be the only skateboard you would ride? Why?
It would have to be good for everything, or at least for your favorite stye of skating.
What do you think?

The downhill is an excellent well built carving deck... I have owned two of them and prefer them set up with Randal 180mm RII's and a variety of wheels... my favorite wheels on these did end up being Flashbacks.
I have found all the Comets that I have owned to be responsive nice handling boards that hold up very well to crashes and bumps... they take a licking and keep on kicking! HR

What other equipment (complete set up) would be good for skating like they did in the stik.com video?
I want to be able to pump along the flats like they did, and then rip out some coleman slides like they did.
The stik looks cool but you can't change the wheels or bearings to standard skateboard equipment, which I think is a disadvantage.
I may get two boards (1) a pumper/carver (2)a slider/speeder, or some other combo.
Any suggestions?

I ran into a guy at Louisville who had a blue-colored one of these. He used it for a downhill/carver rather than a park board. He let me take it a spin in the street.
First impressions:
Good:
Really turny yet controlable -- more turny than R2s.
Wide/long enough to be comfortable (seemed a bit shorter than 40" though).
Bad:
Not long enough for my tastes (used to MBII).
I kept hitting the rear wheel when pushing (they stick out a bit).
Neutral:
I've never ridden a lowered board -- it seemed a bit strange to be that close to the ground -- IIRC, it seemed to be much lower than my BRX dropcarve.

Has anyone tried this board?
I've been checking out the video, on their website.

It's incredible. It shows little kids pumping along the flats and ripping with coleman slides.
It shows pro surfer Brad Gerlach (inventor of the carve board) doing some fantastic surf style skating.
The video makes it look easy. And, has me eager to check out this board. I want to be able to skate like the guys they are showing in the street sections of the video. Pumping along the flats, and pulling coleman slides, ect.
Is this a good board/set up for this? Or, am I just being swayed by a very slick video.
Should I buy this board, or would I be better of with something else?
What do you guys recommend?

MarkC, thats funny! One of my fav boards right now is the Duane Peters Ghetto Pig too. I freaking love it., Like all Red Kross's its light and stiff. Really well made. Mine's set up w/Webb Wide Rides and Edger wheels, 1/2" risers and some really old Swiss Bones. This set up kills it!!!! If you haven't tried Edgers yet for concrete you gotta get on that. I also have the Red Kross Olson board that's 11" and has the same wheelbase, its sick too. Ever since I got my Skaterbuilt 12" pig I kinda been collecting decks that are over 10" wide. Can't get enough of them. Another hot set-up is my Skaterbuilt Jay Smith w/6Tracks and the 100a Dub-Cons. That's a blast. Everyone who see's it call's it 'retro-modern'. Enjoy the Hackett, I'm stoked on my end of the trade, thanks bro.

JTH- Try your Cosmic 2 with Randal 150's and Flashback 75a, it makes for a great all around cruiser. The kicktail is useless for tricks due to deck flex but it is really nice for just handling the board.

Your info on the bearing was excellent.
I am interested in that bds longboard. What can you tell me about it? What trucks, wheels and bearings would you recommend for it?
I just carve and cruise on the streets and roads in my neighborhood. I do love to race around the block, also. Sometimes I race the kickflipper kids, only to make it fair I let them use their bicycles instead of their skateboards. We tried it the other way, but it was no contest.

I think that depends upon what you want the board for; multi-
purpose deck(either the BDS Longboard or Afroman Hustler),
vert/pool deck(Skaterbuilt Jay Smith is my choice here),
bowl deck, downhill deck etc.
There are so many excellent decks out there now, with more
due out VERY shortly. It's a buyer's market for sure. Just get a
little information before you plunk down your hard earned money.

I own the Original Freestyle 43 reviewed below. I also have a Bahne Black Hill slalom board. I am looking for suggestions for the next board to add to my growing quiver. I am considering either a dropped board (maybe that new Curve swift 40 that Hugh R reviewed) or a cambered carver (maybe a landyachtz chief, or a Curve Swerve 38). I am also considering the new V-Lams by Original Skateboards.
I am open to any suggestions, however I am now so used to the turning abilities of the Original super carve trucks that I dont know if I could skate anything else. My Freesyle 43" turns MUCH tighter than my Bahne 29" slalom board with siesmic front truck, if you can believe that! I do need to be able to turn quick. I also like to be able to push and pump along the flats with speed. And, I love to carve mild to wild hills. I also want to learn to do coleman slides and such.
What do you guys think, any recommendations?

jth - I think you mean the Original Skateboards Hybrid 37. I have not ridden it, but I do own an Original Freestyle 43. The Freestyle 43 is an incredible set up. The deck has a beutiful snowboard shape with holes cut into it (to prevent wheelbite). It has a nice concave and twin tip stlye kick tail, nose. It's made from 11 ply maple and is pretty stiff but does flex some. It is wide and very stable, great for fast skating. The Original trucks are amazing, super, super tight turning unlike any other "skateboard". They are spring loaded and have a geometry simiilar to a Randal r2. These trucks allow you to lean so far that you would get wheel bite with most decks. That is where the brilliantly placed cut outs come in. This thing could be compared to a CarveBoard or even a Flowlab, in the way that it allows you to lean into a tight turn. But unlike those, it rides like a standard skateboard. I get zero wheel bite with this set up (with 70mm krypto classic k's (78a). This is a great set up for city boarding because in the city you need to be able to turn super tight so you dont run over pedestrians or skate into a car door. Actually, this super tight turning is great for many applications. I use my Freestyle 43 for carving mild to wild hills, general cruising and racing around my block.
The Hybrid 37 is recommended for advanced skaters and turns even quicker than the Freestyle. I am not sure but it might be a little twitchy. Still, I can't recommend this company enough. Scott, the inventor/owner is very helpful. It is cool that you have a skate shop where you can buy these. I ordered mine directly from Original. They sent it out UPS ground ($7.00) and I recieved it the very next day!
Scott also told me that they are working on two new boards that will be vertically laminated (v-lam) with fiberglass. They should be available very soon and will be awesome!

i'm trying to figure out a board+setup combo for a stint in nyc this summer. i have to consider PATH train and subway commuting, as well as the streets and sidewalks of the union market area. i currently own a cosmic 2 and a supercruiser, both still stock setups unfortunately, and have considered updating the cosmic 2 to a more agile setup. i've also searched new boards and have noticed the landy dh urban assault & original hybrid. given that i live in hartford, ct, i'm lucky that i've at least been able to stand on a hybrid, even if it was only in a shop.
any suggestions for good rides & experiences commuting in the city would be greatly appreciated.
also, if anyone out there is from the hartford, connecticut area / farmington valley, where do people ride?! i've found some developments on avon mtn with wide and smooth downhills, but there's got to be other good spots. please don't tell me only the resevoirs!

Thank you, chris olden for responding to my question about your incredible bearing collection. Your speedy response is much appreciated. I am new to this forum and the depth of experience shown by the people here is amazing. This is probably the classiest forum (on any subject) that I have seen.
By the way, Chris, your quiver is outstanding. Based on your equipment I guessing that you saw the dogtown and z boys documentary. Did you like it? I loved it, and it inspired me to get back into skateboarding after a twenty year layoff. I love the BDS longboard in your collection. What type of skating do you use it for and how does it perform?

My main ride is the Duane Peters Ghetto pig w/ Invader 950's and 60/98 Sector 9 wheels.1/2 risers and Bones Reds bearings.Incredibly surfy fast and a real pleasure in parks and bowls.The deck is near 11" wide but rides like a much lighter sort of deck.Really impressed w/ the Invader trucks,super turny w/ the stock bushings.I also really dig my Sector 9 Pig Gash. 10 by 30 setup with Tracker 149 Darts, and BDS Dub Cons. I use Khiro bushings in my Darts and they perform well. The Dub Cons are fast grippy and old school to the core. Another setup I like is my Gelfand Outlook skates model with Indys 149s and Gravity Street Gs 66mm. Not really that picky about my bearings but all this talk has got me thinking I need to invest in some really fast ones.Did a trade with Hamm for a Deathbox Hackett Surf Skater...looking forward to setting that up some time this week. Also took a few runs at the park on my son's 7.5 Zero Jamie Thomas Diamondback this weekend...felt like a toy...can't go back to those. Mark C.

If you could give feedback comparing the top bearings you have used it would be very helpful. Thank you for your help. Hehe...Funny thing is that I've got both the 44" and the 38" (my wife's current ride). I've got them both set up with Randall II 150mm's and Flashbacks.
Both the 38" and the 44" run the rear trucks on the inside holes. On the 38", we run the front truck to the front, and on the 44", the front truck is in the inside holes (which has more risk of wheelbite on this deck). Upgraded bushings and flipped kingpins (but NO flipped hangers) yields a real nice ride on both boards.

Actually, Mine actually says Red Cross on it with a "C".
Its a special edition that got black label into trouble with the red cross.
I was told in the trucks section that Webbs are the lowest trucks I can go with.
My current setup is with RIIs. (They were the only trucks I had access to)
