Mummy setup questions

I am considering a Mummy as an all around pumper/novice cone runner/carver.Can I get some ideas about setups. What trucks and size work well with this deck? Is it drilled old and new school? I have a variety of Abec11 wheels and would like advice on wheel type and duro(wt.185#). Thanks

Dave, about the Speedmaster bearings ... these sound like the same bearings I bought once for my son's regular street board. The local skate shop had a whole loose bin of them and they were relatively cheap. In my personal opinion, they were not so great (they sounded kind of noisy to me), but I defer to Duane's comment several posts down:
"The total difference between a great bearing, and a good $7 set is so small that it matters not to me 99% of the time... In general skill and wheels matter, and everything else counts for almost nothing."
In other words: don't worry, they're just fine.
Lately (FWIW) all I've been buying are Pleasure Tool, abec-7, sealed -- on the theory that this will help keep out the salt residue from our coastal New England roads. They seem to have a somewhat longer breaking-in curve than other bearings I've tried.

When you find a hill you'll find out why carving is usefull for speed control. Enjoy the learning curve.

My Sector 9 pintail came today. It's got tracker trucks and ABEC-11 'Grippins' wheels..The bearings say ABEC-3 speed master...Are they good?...Oh, I only rode it around the block a few times (okay, alot of times). It's a really fun ride, I pumped pretty hard and wobbled a little bit and almost fell...I haven't rode any hills yet mainly because there are none around here, but I did go on a very freshly paved rode and this thing is smoothe. I think i know what carving is but I'm not really sure. If it's where you go back and forth tilting the board, then I was doing some of that. I don't know what it's purpose is though. Well that's my review on this board...My questions are: Are ABEC-3 speedmaster bearings good?...Am I carving correctly?

It has Flashbacks which I heard are really good, so I won't need new wheels, Tracker trucks I heard were also good so I won't need new trucks...The only thing I'll replace when I have money is the bearings. I'll just see what I like and don't like about it and then I'll mod it to be my perfect first longboard.

the cosmic platinum would be great for pumping around on and commuting/carving. dont know what wheels and bearings those are though so you may have to upgrade to abec 11 wheels and some good bearings...

Dave - any of those would be pretty good.
That Big Red X is a good choice to, if you want to get into some
speedy downhill skating. Not bad for cruising either, with a very low deck
hight for easy pushing. Might not turn as quickly as a dedicated carving board, though.
So, the question is what do you want to do on your skateboard?
Bomb hills, carve, cruise, tricks, slalom, racing, street?
What type of terrain will you be skating? Roads, parks, smooth, rough?
And, besides e bay, you might want to check out some on line skate shops, like mile high skates, purple skunk, solid skate, latter day skates, long skate, daddies, ect. E bay is sometimes a good deal, but not always. Check the skate shop forum and the "our advertisers" link here on ncdsa.
Also, check out the buy sell trade forum here on ncdsa.

That's a speedboard, Dave. It's not as turn friendly or manuverable as something with a traditional truck mount and some quicker turning trucks.
As speedboards go, that's a pretty good one. The trucks are correct, but it could use some bigger wheels. Unless you plan on riding downhill both ways to your destination with big, sweeping turns...you may want to consider a more traditional set-up.

Big Red X is the brand, but there are different models. Is it the DropThru, the Raggedy-andy or the Mime deck?
Abec-11 is the brand of wheels. Flashbacks, NoSkoolz, Flywheels, Stingers, Gumballs or Grippins? What size & what duro(meter)? (Soft 75a - Hard 92a)
The "sector9" and 75" crap have me confused. Let us know when you know more. If it turns out that his deal is bogus, I'm sure there are plenty of folks here on NCDSA that could set you up with the right stuff for the right kind of riding at the right price.

I'm new to longboarding and I really just need one to get to school and around town and my friend is selling one and he says it's a "Big Red X Longboard Skateboard Abec 11 Sector 9 Nine 75"...
What does that mean and is it good for what I want to do with it?
Also, is it fast?

My friend knows the owner of this company - Custom Skate Longboards/Lola Fly Surf Longboards. They make custom longboards to exactly what you want. Pretty cool, but since they make them right when you order them, it takes a couple weeks, and shipping can be expensive, but the boards are pretty inexpensive and good quality so it evens out.
