If cruisin' is pumping the board, look into Loaded Boards. They have a strong and flexy composite construction that let you stay on the board practically forever, just pumping, rather than pushing.

Hey guys, im goin down to hogtown this weekend to buy my first long board, and im gona be disking out around like 300 canadian on this so i dont want to find out that i bought some low quality brand. What do you guys think are some top quality brands first of all, and second of all im going to use this for goin down hill obviously but im mainly getting it for cruising, is there any particular style of board made for cruising, i see a bunch of different shapes and sizes but thats about it. Im gona be using it to cruise around on sidewalks and the occasional road (i live beside a main thoroughfare) and when i buy my board i want it to be TOP quality. sorry if this makes no sense to you guys im reallly fresh so longboarding.

h0dad just had a brain fart..how's this for a wild idea: a website that suggests setups in response to a user's requirements.
For example, a user might fill in a form with parameters like, maybe, cruising=yes, slides=yes, speed=moderate, asphalt=chipseal, bowls=yes etc. and the site would suggest one or more setups like "Sector 9 SuperCruiser, 110 Indy's, 88 duro Indy bushings, steep wedge in front, back flat, Bones spf 62mm" or whatever.
It's totally doable with the same A.I. thats used to work out stuff like credit ratings and medication. The site could be trained with user's feedback, and might even be sponsored by the skate manufacturers!

Go to the DownHill Billies website (www.downhillbillies.org) and check out the links page for suggestions on longboards. I would recommend for an all around good complete for you to look at Gravity Skateboards. Almost all of the board makers/sellers have completes to choose from or will put some together. The DHB crew is digging on Subsonic pretty big now. I also have a Wicked Skateboard Wicked Wonder 58" that is a great cruiser and was affordable. It is a very fun board and though I am into bombing, sliding, and slalom, but this board has been one of my favorites just for cruising to the office, to the store, or just around the neighborhood.
If you want a custom longboard and have a little dough, give Fatboy of Longboards a shout and get him to make you something special! He's a DHB and makes sweet stuff!

I'm going to buy a longboard. My friend had one years back and then moved away. I'm selling off the car and going to commute to work with the longboard. I'm thinking, long, stiff and wide trucks based on what I've learned. I don't know if that's wise and I don't really know what name I should buy or where. Any recommendations for me??

I have the Insect Big Bug with R2s and Gumballs - I love that board. I imagine the Pin is very similar. Finally got it out the other weekend after a long winter. Perfect flex, does just what I expect it to do. And I can't say enough good about Steve and his service. I bought it as a complete and put in Khiro blue barrel bottoms all around - smooth. It was impeccably built and assembled.

i am looking to buy a new longboard skateboard. right now i have a gravity 42 inch and a sector nine, and i have looking into either a landyachtz board or an insect board. i like the "chief" landyachtz board, but i also really like the insect pintail. let me know what you guys think would be the right choice. they are both about the same price, so let me know what your opinions are on insect boards and landyachtz boards. thanks

i am riding a 42 inch hyper carve from gravity..i want to ride with angled risers ..for quicker turning?? which way is the wedge placed?? is it high end facing out toward end of board??i am currntly riding it with randal 180's with a flat riser..does the placement of the angled risers change with randals and say a conventional truck like indy's or tracker darts??

i ride mine on golfcourses daily. today in fact!
DH deck, 92mm flys, DH truck geometry with titanium axles. doesnt turn much but enough. if you want it to turn sharp go with r2 150's.

If you are looking at Landyachtz DH Race, I would suggest checking out Kebbek (www.kebbek.com) the Hairpin, Flushcut and Smoothcut are excellent boards and versitile.

In what kind of riding would that board perform the best?
i live on a golf coarse and im wondering how it would do on the tight and fast pavement

I have made the appropriate inquiries, including US availability. They definitely have assembled units ready. I've been in touch for a number of months with the principals.
The boards look very nice, much lighter than the BMW while looking tougher as well. I like the use of real parts like spherical bearings that can be replaced, and the adjustable board height.
Not so sure about the wheels for the street, they look lame to me for smooth pavement, but it should be possible to substitute others, the spindles look to be 10mm on the street model. I think you could cut several pounds off with the right wheels. Pnuematic wheels are painfully slow compared to urethane.
I'm a little skeptical of their weight claims, but I've got a scale all warmed up to test that out.

Sector 9 makes a 37"x8.5"? new school park/pool deck.
Too big for me but I know someone that has one.I like the
comet shape but not the glass.
I would get Indy's with soft red Indy bushings.
A steep wedge in front to make it turn more, back
flat or slightly wedged to increase turning.
Bones spf 62mm or Powell bowl bombers 64mm PF are
good wheels. Soft wheels in a park give up alot of
speed and only gain a little grip.

I ride everything at the park - last year discovered the joy of a 57" Ed E (Gravity) w/ Randall 180s +73mm/90A wheels (from somewhere) in the bowl - great for big Bert-slashes at the coping. HOWEVER I predomonantly ride the 40" Comet proflex park with Tracker B2s and 66mm/97A NoSkoolz. Really a great set-up (I am going to try the split Randall 150/ Tracker combo when Summer its NYC again). I find the stiffness of the board very responsive, a great concave (a must for any park board) and a good upturned nose. My one problem with the comet is that the fibreglass construction on the tail wears down far too quickly and becomes somewhat... uncomfortable? impractical?... This becomes a real problem in shortening the lifespan of your deck, especially as i find myself really punishing the kicktail when I park-skate. I just picked up a Gravity Brad Edwards 40" which is 7-ply maple and should solve that problem. All the good things about the Comet, none of the bad. Conversely, you could just pick up a Tail-Bones tail protector to bolt on the back...
Idunno about the rest of you, but I also am rather fond of the ol' Crooks rails under my board. Saves graphics, slides evenly, makes a board-grab a breeze. just another thing that you may like on your park set-up.
