Wow. I haven't been online for a while and look what I missed! It looks like the contact patch under the wheels is pretty small. Motorcycles also have small contact patches which is why they can't corner at the same g's as a car. It looks interesting....

One of the Advertising Sales ladies at work will be checking in with her BMW Dealer contacts for me about these boards. At first she thought I was pulling her leg (I don't understand why people think I am kidding about all this skateboard stuff?)
So hopefully in a few days I will have some info to share on availability. I am shooting for a test ride (drive?) HR

Hmmm, I was justlooking at Manu Atuna's web site and all the GS races listed. My Custom Turner Giant slalom deck was stolen by a complete jerk and I was wondering what would replace it. If bobby would make me another that would be awesome, but hopefully I can get my hands on one of these now!
I'll fly over and race next week!!! It's the motivation I needed, what away to get New BMW customers.

Hey,
Hey I just applied for my 8th credit card. I have a credit line of a combine 40K now. By the time the skateboards offered, I can charge my credit card, by the car, sell the car, and get the skateboard for free. Hopefully I can do this. I'll probably loose like 2Gs, but I'll have the skateboard.
Naw that stupied. Its not that great anyways. forget it!

22 pounds, no rebound to center, ultra sharp steering? Sounds just like my Xcite Sports X-133 mountain board, which is no fun to ride (or carry). My enthusiasm is dwindling... :(

mmmm, sort of desribes my board, well my Stroker board weighs in at 5+ kilos and turns real tight,it's still freaky to be rolling along with traffic at a slow to med speed slice into a gap between parked cars and roll around a little circle with the cherrybomb chirping, and still have mommentum when i'm pointed at the street ready to cross, with no neck straining to look behind me for traffic. The weight on the Beamer(yeah i had to say that) is a little frightening,i hope they get it lighter, the price doesn't sound to bad,and it would finally give me a chance to go into a BMW dealer and buy something! I wonder if they do financing or leasing?

You guys get excited. Well, ... I rode it ! BMW brought a couple of them at the last Chronic Classic in France (see http://www.chasseursdecourbes.com), so that quite a lot of riders could try it.
Quick review: the board is very stiff and concave. It takes a lot of angle, so that you can turn even tighter than with eXkates. But there is not spring effect on the trucks, i.e. you go from one side to the other without resistance !!! Pretty weird !
It looks fun to carve on moderate slope, but I would not try serious downhill with it. On the flat, it is very heavy (I would say at least 10 kg), plus it is so stiff you can't pump on the deck.
Unless this is revolutionary concept and there is something we didn't catch when we tried it. I am not sure this product is intended to you skateboarders. More like a young executive fashion toy. Those boards didn't look like prototypes, but I don't know if they are the final ones and if BMW plan to modify them.
Last thing. The price of the streetcarver is about DM 1000 = USD 470 !!! And this "skateboard" will be sold at BMW dealers only, i.e. with the cars...

One other thing, the concave in the tail and nose area would serve to make the board very torsionally rigid near the nose...good for turning response, but the tail should be torsionally softer to allow for some forgivness when pushing the edge of the traction envelope so the board does not just suddenly blow out. Also the radical ratio of the tire thickness to the rim size concerns me as there is an ideal ratio of sidewall height relative to the rim--- or core. Having a rim that is essentially 100a durometer (steel) and then say a 6-8mm of urethane or rubber for the tire would make even 78a durometer urethane ride like 96a urethane. The exception to this would be if the rim had a dished out section or "waist" which allowed for a better ratio, then you could have a firm sidewall near the edge of the wheel for solid cornering, but still have enough urethane thickness between the bearings for smooth riding on straight aways and mild turns. This "waisted core" would help reduce wheel "squirm" which occurs when the urethane (particaulary softer urethane) deforms under "high radial thrust loads" (sounds sexy doesn't it) and ripples near the road surface to cause a choppy skid. But being BMW they probably already have figured this out. Anyone know when these things will be available?

It looks like BMW has been hiring younger engineers who want more out of skating. I wonder about the high speed wobbles with this thing. With most skateboards the rear trucks cause the wobbles. This is because the pivot of the rear truck is behind the rear axle which is inherrently unstable- much like swept forward wings on some jet fighters. That is why so many downhillers from the 70's who rode incredibly unstable trucks had to position nearly all of their weight over the front truck. This design is far different in that the axle of the rear truck would appear to trail the pivot------however the front truck has the axle way in front of the pivot! Could it be that wobble might originate from the front truck. This is only relevant to the resonant frequency of the suspension and should the suspension be tuned way out of the range of vibration for normal riding this would not be a factor. Also those leading arms on the front truck might cause the front truck to steer radically if a rock were encountered as opposed to them being trailing arms.... just my thoughts, The design reminds me of the rack and pinion steering of the Stroker system of the 70's however it appears that there is caster and camber involved which was noticibly absent in the stroker system. My other concern is the performance of a radiused wheel as opposed to one with straight edges.
Regardless, sign me up I want one. I'll take an M series with a Dinan high performance chip

I know that alot of you people out there think that there still might be a chance that you will win this wonder board. But look at this email that I just got from them
"Dear namon, A lot of people have registerd for our drawing for a free streetcarver. We have been monitering these as they come in. As of yet, yours has been the only one worth a damn. We realize that you and only you should win this board. So we plan on sending you the board, but we will still let the contest run on so that other less worthy people will still be able to think that they might have a chance, but dont worry, the board has allready been packaged and addressed. All we need to do is send it. Thanks again for being to damn cool for other people.
-your friendly BMW streetcarver representitive."
So there. Dont waste your time you guys. I allready have it in the bag

actually with that wheel placement - a curb hit wouldn't do much damage.
As for those wheels, will this thing slide at all? I doubt it.
Will it carve tighter than exkates? tighter than carveusa boards? Who would need that?
Will it hold the road better than SS wheels on RIIs? I doubt it.
Will it be more stable than Randall downhill comps, Cherry bombs and Dregs race board. I doubt it.
Will it be cooler looking than any complete I've ever seen. I'm sure of it.
Will it cost less than $1000? $500? I hope so.

Heard from a friend who owns a skateshop who heard from a distributing company guy he deals with who heard that the streetcarver is going to cost (at the absolute least) $400+, and "probably a hell of a lot more." ouch. then again maybe this design is a bit too radical for my tastes. barely even looks like a skateboard. hmm...

I wonder how much better it can perform than a 44" fibreflex with RII's and turbowheels, my guess is...not much.
Then again, it could change everything we know about the sport.
Looks like someone with a heavy dose of R&D $$$ finally figured out something beyond the roller skate pivot/truck.

I searched for the BMW streetcarver on every search engine known to man, and still could not find any more information. When is it coming out?!?!?!? How much does it cost?!?!?! Will I have to sell my motorcycle to get it?!?!?!
