Dogtown For Life
On 6/22/2004 Adam H wrote in from (66.177.nnn.nnn)

CRB, I was the one that mentioned it. I have one on the way. I'm going crazy waiting on it. I have a set of Randall R2 180's waiting on it and also have some 76mm 80a Blue Krytponics - Bones Reds and 1/8" soft risers on the way as well. Should be a sweet ride. I've got my eye on another Dogtown board too. It's got a big ol' skull with a top hat. I don't even know if I'll ride that one. I might just start buying decks for the art. I'm hooked. Your post made me that much more anxious.

39" DT Skate for life
On 6/22/2004 Chief Red Beef wrote in from (24.185.nnn.nnn)

Someone mentioned the DT skate for life deck and I just gotta say that I have one and it's becoming my favorite deck.
It's got a really nice shape. It's not too wide (just over 9") and I really like the way the nose kick is not as steep as the tail.
I have it set up with Tracker B52's and blue Kryptos. Wedged like a slalom board.
Fun, fun, fun.

I think it's great that we are all talking skiboards I will try to get some pics on my site soon! Has anyone made a good skiboard from a foam core ski? How did it ride/wear? My skiboards get torn to shreads after a while. Keep posting Skiboard stuff!

new find.
On 6/21/2004 Ryan wrote in from (66.239.nnn.nnn)

i found a nice old cypress gardens slalom ski in my bosses shop today...don't know how i ever missed it. it's beautiful, just as tall as the one i ride...maybe taller, less of a nose (angle and size), and almost seems a little wider. there is a sweet grooved channel that starts out at the top and gets deeper near the bottom. the tail is wider, and flat at the end. the got beautiful dark stringers, in what looks like maple. it's in beautiful condition too. this one might be getting glassed. i'd be keeping it for myself, but i promised my buddy i'd keep a look out for one. good luck on the search...shouldn't be too hard in N Carolina...hit up some pawn shops and antique stores.

hey NC, i just read your post, and i have some suggestions for you. try ebay for some skis...i found my first pair at an old job site (actually where i got the idea...for a second i thought it was an original one...boy was i wrong) a great place to look though is ebay, you can find a shape you like, type of wood or quality, and great deals. i'd try looking for a cypress gardens 'cougar' they look pretty sweet, or some maherajah(sp?) skis..those are real nice, and some tend to have wider front ends (where you need it most...mount the front truck up high too so you can hang on it) it is going to be real flexy under your weight, i weigh around 150 and i get alot of flex (which i love for cruising and carving)...but you could easily run a wood stringer down the center to give you some strength...if you don't have any luck on the skiskate thing, check out jamlongboarding.com, they've got some big guns, and i mean big...the silverback is sick. they're based over here in Va too.

Blue Krypto 76rs with Bones swiss and Jimmy Slinger 45 risers. Good for hills! No wheel bite so no supermans! Fast and stable with some slide action! Not too grippy!

Wheels for Parks and more
On 6/12/2004 AdamH wrote in from (66.177.nnn.nnn)

Hey folks, I just ordered a Dogtown 39" Skate for Life deck and I plan on putting Randall R2 180's on it but I'm not sure what wheels to put on it. I want it to mainly be my Skatepark/Ditch board but I will likely be riding it in the street a little as well. Any opinions on some decent wheels for a set up like this. I don't want them to be too hard or too soft. Maybe grip the road but slide a little on the crete. Also, what type of bearings (under$20) Spacers and risers? Should I get soft risers, angled? Somehow it didn't seem this complicated in 1977. haha. I'm all ears...or ..uh.. eyes.

Funny you should mention that! In 1979 I did exactly that...except it was tracker full tracks not Randalls....But damn, that is a great idea. I guess I will be digging around the junk shops this weekend.

To Everyone Else: Thanks for the ideas...I am checking them all out and I bet that there are others who will be too!

Here's a 50 incher for $30

http://store.yahoo.com/streetboardz/noname151.html

If you want a big nose and tail for walking tricks - try the fatboy, S9 Luke Nosewalker, Afroman Big Worm, Gravity Ed Economy, etc.

If you want a long wheelbase but don't want the big nose and tail - try the curve 46" swift (37.5 wheelbase) Insect Big Bug (35.5 wheelbase).

If you want something exotic - www.sk8shop.ch - pogo 140mm (38.5 wheelbase) needle tail or pogo 130mm (36.5 wheelbase)

yo NCL! here's my advise, get a gravity ed economy bank rider, it's a 57" 18plys baltic birch monstah with hweel cutouts, you can cruise or perform on this. or you could look into the ed e street rider, 15plys instead of 18, add a little flex and subtract a little performance. in my opinion you should steer clear of anything too flexy because with the long wheelbase of a supercruiser and your weight it would be tough to turn.

Super Longboard Advise
On 6/10/2004 North Carolina Longboarder wrote in from (63.167.nnn.nnn)

Ok Gang! I got another hankering to add to the quiver (damn, my wife is going to freakin kill me..but heck, no worries!). The next board I want to purchase is something super long, say over 50"+. I am big rider (6' 215 lbs...no, I am not a fat ass...)so I am going to need a board that is stiff enough to handle the weight. This board is going to be used primarily for just cruising and looking cool around the neighborhood (joking-I haven't looked cool since about 1984) Cruising hills and carving about.
Ok, Longboarding freaks, give me the scope on the jumbos.

Vids, and Adam H
On 6/9/2004 Lenny wrote in from (205.188.nnn.nnn)

I love the Gravity vids. Again, if y'all haven't checked them out, do so ASAP! Great stuff!! "Flow" could've had less sliding and more park stuff, but hey! It still rocked! Jessie Parker and Yancey Meyer and crew reshaped the possibilities as to what people can expect from longboarding on street. And Brad Edwards' slide-to-slappy? All I could do was rewind that to make sure I saw it correctly!! Any more vids in the works?

AdamH, I have two Gravity cues: the 46" concave carve for cruising around and pumping and the 39" concave carve for parks (my wife likes to carve and cruise on that as well). Anyway, I love them both!!! Right now there's a special on an older graphic of the 46" (actually the graphic I have), my advice is get it while it's there! You won't be sorry!!!

Tom,
I just got 2 videos from Gravityboards.com . One was called FLOW and the other was a 3 in 1 special. Both are worth it. You can also go to their website and look at the team photos and on some of the member's individual pages there are short vids that will download automatically< If anyone else knows of any others that are worth picking up, I'd like to know what they are.

I have only done a very few hills, because there are few where i am and i cant drive yet, but hope to do a lot more soon with the pintail. Also, what good longboardvideos are available, i need to see more for inspiration!

Sayreville's concrete is longboard-friendly!
On 6/7/2004 John Dillon,Team Fun wrote in from (208.197.nnn.nnn)

The Wally Hollyday design/build concrete park in Sayreville, NJ is a blast to skate on a longboard. The crete is smooth, there's 4 partial bowls linked together, including a small clam-shell in the deepest roundwall corner. I rode a Powell NoKaOi 43.75" and a 38" Bulldog Longboard and had a blast. My co-pilot rode the Alva Longboard. The 4-hr drive in the rain sunday was worth it as it had stopped raining within 2 hrs of our destination.......needless to say, FDR was fun too for the dawn patrol session...just had to dodge puddles and trash...and the 60 degree temps made it even better than the 90+ temps a couple weeks earlier.
