Yeah, I would like to see the footage as well! I missed it live! I was at the bottom of the course and heard a "thud" followed by Marion saying "OUCH! Lenny bit it" I was glad to see Lenny stand up quickly and survey the damage, to return to the top and come back w/ a vengance!

The slam
On 1/19/2005 Lenny wrote in from United States  (68.75.nnn.nnn)

Cool! I can't wait to see some of that viddy. It felt like my back wheels lost traction. I'm GUESSING that I was a bit too much on my toes with my weight off the back truck. It happens, thank God I was padded up or else I may have been out for at least the rest of the day. As it was, my best runs were post-slam.

Yesterday some students saw the road rash on my elbow. One student asked if it was safe to assume that anytime I have a scrape or something that it had something to do with skateboarding.

I said it many times before, but it's well worth repeating that this weekend was a blast! The Karr family's hospitality is second to none (the kind of folks that we're all lucky to know). The whole DBH crew is a pack of extremely cool bros and sisses who can tear it up! With as quickly as y'all were picking up slalom, you may be able to throw a heck of a race before too long!

Next time, I want to reserve some energy for the night ride as well. My friends were tripping out when I said that Dave G, Marion and I were all crashed out before 10:00.

Slide Wheels
On 1/18/2005 North Carolina Longboarder- DownHill Billies wrote in from United States  (166.82.nnn.nnn)

Tom Meakin: Cool pic! I am riding Comet Games on my slide board. 92a. They slide good but also still are pretty secure in a carve. Go to the Slide Forum and those guys will hook you up with tons of suggestions. The boys from Faltown in Cornwall are all riding 98a and up stuff I think. Sergio Yuppie is riding at least 99a but I think I read somewhere they may be 101a. The Cliff Coleman Forum will also help you out. Post a question for Cliff and he will also load you up with suggestions. I like the Comets myself.

I've been sooo busy after returning home to a cold house (my neighbor let the fire die and the door open) Had to pick the wifew up the next day in Chas. to find I was expected to go to our new Gov's innauguration party and off to the hospital this a.m w/ one of my twins!!! Cfavero...you beat all!! You know that?
Thanks Marion, for a wonderful time, oh..and Wesley, work on that stop watch finger! I think it's a bit lazy ;-)

More On The DownHill Billies Jam
On 1/18/2005 North Carolina Longboarder- DownHill Billies wrote in from United States  (166.82.nnn.nnn)

Darren: Thanks for the shout out for Todd S. Lift Operator duties. Man, that dude pitched in big and drove the lift to the top all day. That rocked and definitely earned him the first and soon to be coveted "DownHill Billy Of The Day" Award. I hear some PBR coming his way soon! If you see him let him know everyone appreciated his efforts. There were alot of runs made down the hill
and Todd helped make it happen!

Let's get the local crew together sometime next week and start planning the next Jam.

To concur with Lenny's post: Dave G didn't even bring long pants with him but he did keep on his shoes and stayed out of my hottub! Ha ha.

Everyone was ripping on Saturday and having a great time. Seth was killing it with his stand up slides, his Carve Board riding, and his newbie slalom stuff.
Shannon was his usual smooth and cool shreader. The Bozi Bombers-Jaybird, Bandy, Darren, etc. were riding faster than I ever have seen them go. It was awesome to behold.
Jason should probably get the award for riding the most boards and trying the most stuff. He slalomed, he carved, he Bozi bombed, he road the Green Latern, and lord knows what else. He was smiling the whole time.
It was good to see Rookie riding the Green Latern! It was about dang time that Barry showed up...yes Barry, there is something other than transition riding that still rips!
Holly was fearless...never would think she just started riding less than 2 months ago.
Justin, what can I say. He walks the talk. He was super styling it and spreading the Word just with the way he treated everyone. He lives his faith.
Lenny did have one killer bust but the best thing about his presence there was this killer positive vibe that he shared with everyone...and the big boy can skate!
Wesley Tucker- I guess he is now the official Slalom Yoda for the DownHill Billies Crew. Use the Force Luke! Thanks for coming Wes! You were fast as all get out and yes, you did freak everyone out with that parallel stance of yours!
The custom Icks look like they were made for you....oh yeah, they were!

To everyone that came out, to skate, to watch, to share the vibe, I thank you all! It has motivated me and blessed me more than you all will every know.

Planning the next big jam in my head as I type!

Point of clarification: He wore shorts all weekend (I was joking that I've NEVER seen him with long pants). I didn't mean that he didn't keep pants on. After the CW article mentioning the "Hot Tub Incident of '04," I wanted to clear that up. LOL

On 1/17/2005 Darren - aka: Lil' Shane wrote in from United States  (66.157.nnn.nnn)

I had a great time and we had a great turn-out at the DownHillBillies 1st Skate Jam. It was good to get to meet everyone that came out: Seth, Justin, Holly, Lenny, Dave G, Wesley, an of course all the DownHillBillies. I also want to send out a "Special Thanks" to the lift operator (Todd S.). Marion was right the only thing that could have made the Day better would be to end it with a "Big Party" at Marion's Alley. Can't wait to see the video that was shot, heard that we captured Lennys "tumble".

I do have one question? When is the next one, I'm stoked?

First Pics From DownHill Billies Skate Jam

Lenny described the scene well in his post: The place was rocking! Everyone had an awesome time. My jaw is still hurting from grinning so much. Here are the first pics with many more to follow:
http://photobucket.com/albums/v329/DownHillBillies/January%20Jam%20At%20The%20Spot%20%202005/

As Lenny said, if you are within driving distance you need to hook up with us at the next jam. The local crew is stoked for downhilling, carving, and slalom, and even some Nigh Patrol downtown carving next time! Watch for our posts to see when the next Jam is scheduled. Also, in late February www.downhillbillies.org should be up and running with more info about the group.

I also want to thank Lenny, Dave G, and Wesley Tucker for driving in from Ohio, West ByGod Virginia, and South Carolina for the jam. They fueled the locals stoke in a big way!

Downhill Billies- Live from the NCL Headquarters
On 1/16/2005 Lenny wrote in from United States  (166.82.nnn.nnn)

Marion posted a bit about the Downhill Billies Jam on the slalom forum; so I'll post a bit here. Look for more detail with photos later. But Sheeze Louise! The place was rocking!

Here's my early morning first impression: If y'all live within 6 or 8 hours' drives, hook up with the Downhill Billies. We will definitely show you a good time. Dave G and I were running an hour late; so when we go there, it felt like there was a welcoming committee set up for us! Talk about Southern Hospitality!! For those who slalom- Wes T set up a great great course. Many many people tried slalom for the first time and were having a blast. Marion, Dave G and Wes T were tearing the place apart and stoking everybody up. I shed the first blood of the jam! A bit of road rash never hurt anybody, but I'm taking some great souvenirs to take to OH.

For the bomb and carve crew, these guys were killing it with mad style! Smooth and fast! The whole day was great. My head's still spinning, but there'll be more updates coming soon.
