Another jam? dudes are you trying to make me move to the US? I really do wish i could get to some of those... I am so glad i longboard and slide now though, my snowboarding comes so much more natural and stylish even after a year of no practicing i could huck myself down a moghuld black run with ease(i was in Austria this week). I especially liked the way that when i slid out on ice (i realised afterwards)i was penduluming it back without trying to. The only bad point was that i couldnt pump on snow hahah. Incidentally, my favourite feeling while riding on a snowboard is the same as on my longboard, a pushed out toe-heel turn right before it slips out, the difference being one is on concrete the other powder.
Does anyone else share the stoke when snowboarding just like longboarding?
p.s. my instructor(i went on a school trip) also longboarded which was cool :)

I'm gonna have to jam here myself! But can't wait to be in better mental status to run that fine hill!! And to see the Local members of DHB's I've got several set-ups I'll bring if anyone wants/needs to play on!! Those curbs are sweet for foam core runaways!!! I won't mind loaning out any of several "delicate" decks, knowing the curbs will simply launch them into grassy knolls!! Good on ya' Marion!!
Back to your normally scheduled programming I gotta get back to the high school!! (long story)

D-Holt, I will be more than glad to Help you for FREE to get some of the Shirts printed just give me a heads up when you are ready to get it done!
Big-Pun - can't wait until tonight when we get to see Gov't mule Rock!

Howdy Gang...The Spot is not going to be available much longer and with the racing season and other stuff coming this Spring we need to schedule another DownHill Billies Skate Jam for March. Please email me dates you guys and gals would be available to come into Statesville, NC and session at The Spot again. Same format as before, slalom, bombing, carving, and having a good time. I talked with the developer and he is cool with us riding there then but it is not going to be very long and the construction is going to kick in high gear on all of the houses then that particular game will be over.
Calling all DownHill Billies and anyone else that wants to join us...Please look at your calendars and let me know what weekend works best for you..
Out of towners are welcome to crash at my house on Saturday night.

Darren, get well soon bro!!! You'll be hitting it in no time! Thoughts and prayers are going your way!
Marion, my mother-in-law got me a set of 50 cones for Christmas from www.stillboardin.com . I'm not sure how much they were, but I'm thinking it was a pretty good deal. Evidently, my wife check prices at many places and Scott had the best price. I got my first cones off of ebay. They were Turner and were a buck each. If I had known what a great deal that was, I would've gotten a lot more!! Hope the gut's better, bro!

DownHill Billies: One of the founders of the DownHill Billies, Darren, tore his MCL this weekend while power sliding his Bozi Mad Bomber II. He is in a brace from his waist to his ankle and will be out of commission and not able to work for a while. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers for a fast and strong recovery. He will be having an MRI later to determine the amount of damage to determine if surgery is going to be needed. Darren watches this message board so if you have any positive vibes to send his way I am sure he would appreciate them greatly.
Get well soon Bro'. Rookie, you just lost your job as the crew cameraman for a while!

Wesley, Sorry I had to bail on you yesterday at the last notice....the anti-inflammatories I am taking for my neck injury must have combined with a bug that is going around and needless to say skating in a remote place 10 miles from the nearest toilet was not in my best interest or the seats of my truck...if you catch the drift....
Looking at the schedule today and seeing what works for a re-match. By the way, Tucker, you were right about those cheap cones I bought....They are potentially deadly. I practiced Saturday afternoon setting up a hybrid on the big run at the Spot and on my third run caught one under the nose of my PP 36". Thank God the cone shattered into a million pieces or I would have gotten to test my new Giro Flint full face helmet on its session debut. Needless to say, these cones, and the "gay looking" cone tree, are going to be retired and used for soccer training and other crap, but NOT FOR RUNNING SLALOM! That's what I get for trying to save a little dough.
Lenny, where did you buy your cones from? The 3DM site's shipping is too expensive...
Tucker, thanks for all of the support and training. Again, I apologize for bailing on our training session yestersday but the Throne called....frequently!

Lenny,
It was an Army Of One. Marion called early this morning to tell me he was laid low with a disease. So I hit the road early, got there at 11:00 and skated til about 12:30 when it started to sprinkle. After I got on the road, it dried out quick, so I don't know if it ever rained behind me or not.
I hope no one showed up late and wondered what happened. I was there at noon, but after an hour and a half plus the threat of rain, I gathered up the cones and headed home.

It looks like tomorrow is going to be relatively decent (low '50s) with a chance of rain "later in the afternoon."
Whether that means 2:00 or 5:00, I have no clue. Makes no difference. I'm going to Exit 46 in the morning and skate. If it's raining when I get there, I'll turn around and come home. If I get in an hour, two, or more before the heavens opens, then that'll be a good hour, two or more.
If I see you there, I'll see you then.

Why do you go out everyday (or when you can) and ride your board? Skateboarding releases the stress and pressure of outside forces. I also skate w/ my 9 year old son and its drawing us closer together.
What do you enjoy in skateboarding? I enjoy the feeling of almost flying. I enjoy the freedom. I enjoy the stares of the other men my age who are out jogging when they could be pumping or skogging.
What has brought you to where you are now? Stubbornness, a f**k it, why not attitude and the love of my son.
What do enjoy about your skate scene? Don't get into the local scene. My son and I try to soul skate so we don't have to answer questions and we can concentrate on what we're doing without interruption or distraction. This summer I'm going to try out downhilling again and GS. I'll answer you then.

Cliff: I look forward to meeting you some day. You are a legend and I am honored to have you write. Thank you for your answers. I thought this was a great questionaire!
Lenny: Dude and Fellow DownHill Billy, thanks for the stoke. We are blessed to have you be a part of the Charter member group of the DHB and our new brother in arms. Here are my answers. I encourage all of you to take to time to reflect on what makes this sport we love so much special to you. God has blessed me in so many ways and I consider skating a gift from Him to me.
Why do you go out everyday(when ever possible) and ride your board? Coming back to skating after many years away from the sport just keeps me stoked, smiling, and not stressed out. I found that the other sports I was involved with always left me mad, pissed off, jacked up, and dealing with other dudes who felt like they had something to prove and were trying to overcome the fact that they were getting older. When you finish doing a sport you should be smiling and happy, not all pissed off!
What do you enjoy in skateboarding? Downhill bombing/carving, slalom, sliding, and just hanging with the other skaters (of all types) and sharing the stoke.
What has brought you to where you are now? After being away from skating for years focusing on rugby, soccer, mountain bike racing, my body was starting to break down and I was finding myself just totally frustrated and pissed off (see above). A teenage friend of my daughter's showed up at the house with a Gravity Ed Economy Longboard and the next thing you know I am searching the net for equipment. Now my skate quiver is pretty big and I am back to skating several disciplines in the sport.
What do enjoy about your skate scene? For the most part, the stoke of riding with other people, both men and women, younger and older, and just having a blast. It is why we formed the DownHill Billies to support the sport of skateboarding in different forms and bring together a diverse group of skaters who can feed off of each others love for the board with wheels. We have riders that range in age from teenagers to guys in their 50's.
What companys do you support or will always support?

Who has made skating possible for you? God...who has given me the ability to still skate in my 40's
My best friend from back in the day, Bobby Frye, the best flat land freestyler I have ever ridden with and who drove this poor boy around to every skatepark, skate site, and hill we could find any where in the Southeast during the 70's and 80's.
My awesome wife and daughters who tolerate my collection of boards, equipment, etc. and my need to skate whenever possible.
The DownHill Billies who have motivated me to immerse myself back into the skate scene full tilt with a purpose and a drive. ( Jaybird, Darron, Shannon, Justin, Lenny, Dave G, Wesley Tucker,Bandy, Rookie, Evan, Holly, Jason, Steve O, ane everyone else..y'all ROCK!)

Why do you go out everyday (or when you can) and ride your board? Because everytime I skate, it's fun. It's also great exercize.
What do you enjoy in skateboarding? #1, I like the feeling I get when I'm sliding on my skateboard. 2, I like to compete. I compete occasionally in both Slalom and Downhill. 3, I like that it has become my passion. 4, I enjoy shooting photos and videos of skateboarding. 5, I enjoy the travel that I have done because of skateboarding. 6, I enjoy meeting other skateboarders. I have friends around the globe who skateboard. 7, I like watching the progression of the sport of skateboarding. 8, etc.
What has brought you to where you are now? Gravity, not the company, a strong leg to push, and my mother who kept me involved after the clay wheel era by purchasing a new skateboard for me.
What do enjoy about your skate scene? My skate scene is centered in the East Bay Area in Berkeley, CA. I enjoy the hills and my skate friends. Everyone has always been welcome without attitude and it is very cool. There are hundreds of roads to choose from. The view of the San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate are incredible from many vantage points. The weather allows for year round skating.
What companys do you support or will always support? I support Timeship Racing because Joe Lehm is at the helm. Joe feels like I do that the skaters should come first! This is how I feel when I attend any of his events. Not all promoters place the riders first. I ask you to support those who support you. I also support Lush Longboards and the Faltown crew for what they do to support skateboarding. With skate festivals, videos, web-forums and recently a very positive article in the BBC, these companys deserve support. I support distributors like Mike Stride at Octane Sports who drives around in a van to make sure the products we want are in the shops. I support Essence Clothing out of St. Albans. Good clothing for skating and great people. I thank Giro for my helmet. I thank 3dm for wheels. I feel that they have the fastest urethane that I've ridden so far. I haven't tried all the wheels out there and have a feeling that Chicken's Manx wheels are very fast also. I hope to try them out soon. I support Nike for telling the world how we feel when treated with prejudice and bigotry for being skateboarders.
Who has made skating possible for you? First, a member of the UC Berkeley Crew Team in 1960 for giving me my first skateboard. Next, my mother for the new skateboard at the beginning of the urethane era. Then and in order, the sponsors who flowed the equipment throughout these many years. Hobie Randy 720s Jams Santa Cruz/Independent Powell Peralta Barfoot Gravity Giro Oust 3DM Randal Siesmic Gordon and Smith Etnies Daggers sunglasses and any I've forgotten.

Why do you go out everyday (or when you can) and ride your board?
Fun, relaxation, sunshine and feeling the flow of it all...
What do you enjoy in skateboarding?
Speed, rhythm, flow, feeling on the edge of not in control.
What has brought you to where you are now?
Totality: being fed up with what the popular media has dubbed "skateboarding" Longboard: flows and grooves, slalom: rhythm, flow, practice.
What do enjoy about your skate scene?
Here? There's never a crowd at my fave slalom spot :-) and I'm a short drive away from some great 'crete parks. OK, I'm hesitant to admit it, but I stoke a LITTLE on being an elder-statesmen of skating (read: only only over 18) on the scene. Also, I know my DHB bros and sisses got my back only a few hours away.
What companys do you support or will always support?
Gravity, Factory 13, Pocket Pistols, Stillboardin.com (shop, not a company, but Scott's a heck of a guy to do business with!!)
Who has made skating possible for you?
(no particular order) All my friends growing up, John Dillon for stoking me to this whole longboard and slalom scene (when we met a few years back, I was just a bitter old-schooler), Danny at Factory 13- the first new non-popcicle stick company I knew was out there a couple years back, my wife for supporting me, cleaning my wounds, calling the chiropractor to make appointments, timing me and all sorts of great stuff!!!, My mother-in-law for buying me GREAT Christmas gifts, Dave G for showing me how to slalom, and, albeit still somewhat in the formative stage, the whole DHB crew for giving a core crew of bros and sisses.

Exit 46 is on for Sunday, February 13, NOON.
The long-range looks pretty good. Next week has some rain early and it gets clear and cooler {'50s) by the weekend.
This means as the week progresses we'll probably have rain Friday and Saturday and be sweatin' over whether or not we'll have a dry session next Sunday! No need crying, though, before we even get the milk out of the refrigerator.
Be sure and check in here SATURDAY MORNING for any updates. If the weather deteriorates, then we'll see once again about whether or not to call it.

Ooh yeah :) I have just placed an order for a new board, and am getting excited already. It is a Lushlongboards Park 38" for sliding with Cliff Coleman signature wheels(i need big wheels to roooooooolllllllllll faster) and it will be so nice. Thanks to the government for paying me to come to school every week, Education Maintenance Allowance is possibly the greatest scheme ever thought of hehe. Also i am going to ry and make my own speedboard (using the information from Chris Chaput's site)... useful that my friend's dad owns the local sawmills. It is next day delivery on orders before 2pm, so it definately wont come tomorrow(sunday) or monday(next working day), so hopefully i should have it on Tuesday... If any of you guys are having difficulties trying to persuade your wives' that you NEED another board, my mom said she will try and think up some reasons that will appeal to women for you... not just us hehe.
Marion, how was Hannah's football(i refuse to call it soccer) tourny? Dave G, you are making me pine for the mountains already with your talk of the snow, i can't wait until Austria... but how am i going to ride without noseride it? :S It seems wierd not being able to walk around and change footing like on a longboard.
Peace out, Tom (the billy over the pond)
