DAYS of testimony. Continues this week. In the words of Bricin Lyons (Striker, CLBC)..."Cross examination SUCKS!"
For those of you who don't know:
Last year during the Attack of Danger Bay 3 race weekend, Bricin, along with a number of other campers and skaters were attacked by as many as twenty young men. During the melee, Bricin's dad was hurt, as were several others. Incredibly, the SAME GROUP of knuckleheads had stolen thousands of dollars worth of gear from the campsite the year before.
Only five of the assailants are on trial (it was at night, at a campground, and identifying perps has been difficult), and testimony continues this week.
The good news is that THIS year, due to the overwhelmingly POSITIVE support of Pender Harbour (the community where the race is held), there was absolutely NO problems of any kind. Our local paper published several articles about the event's success, including a quote from ME, and my 300 word editorial letter.
Not only do we have a hot 'scene' up here Lenny....the peeps that DON'T skate seem to like us. We are on a coast, though, that has ENORMOUS outdoor sports paricipation. BMX, MTB, kayaking, sea kayaking, cross country skiing. I think that makes a difference...the locals are sort of used to freaks in helmets and pads!
Coleman and Sergio Yuppie are doing a seminar here in September...Why don't yall come up and party BC style? Accommodations are cheap, tho airfare probably ain't!

Matt, welcome to one of the greatest obsessions anybody can have!
Smitty, as part opf the DHB, thanks for the stokes. Y'all have a heck of a scene up there!!!
In honor of Nat'l Skateboarding Day, I hooked up with a bro and spent 5 hours carving, sliding and slamming the Athens, OH park. Tons of speed and flowing lines around the bowls. The little kids were even following our lines and had MAD style doing it!!! Now I'm sore, tired, sunburned, bruised (I got attacked by a couple Hippersaurus Rex and one unintentional slide to breath-taker), AND COMPLETELY 110% STOKED!!!

I think it SUCKS that National Skateboard Day is on a Tuesday. Who the HELL picked that day? I think it's just Whitey tryin' to keep us down.
Sokay, though...I live in coastal British Columbia, where EVERY DAY is SKATE DAY. Except for January. Brrrrrrr.
Shout out to you DownHillBillies! I am listening to Southern Culture on the Skids in your honour! Might even throw on some Squirrel Nut Zippers, too!

During the summer I walk to work most days leaving the fossil fuel devouring "Piece-O-Crap" F150 to slowly decompose in my driveway. On occassion I ride one of my big longboards to work and today in honor of National Skateboarding Day I basically had an improptu session on the way in on my 58" Wicked Wonder with Randal 180's and Gumballs! It was awesome! Yes, the downtown area business owners think I am a freak but so what! I am skater!

Saturday was fun, but my man Marc is being WAY too modest. He came, he saw, he skated, donated and organized! It really wouldn't have been nearly as fun without him working like a mad man!
Sunday was a blast doing 50 cone TS. Talk about getting practice on the art of pumping!!
A huge welcome goes out to our new bro Bill and family for showing up and stoking! How cool must it be when your father-in-law grabs a LB and goes to town!
Talk to y'all soon!

I just want to congratulate Lenny for having a great skate demo to promote the new skatepark. All the kids showed up with plenty of new school flips and Ollies. Lenny was showing the crowd what longboarding is all about on his 46" Gravity. I had the old school deck out doing slides and few nose and tail wheelies. Lenny gave away some nice prizes for the longest flatland ollie (10 feet), highest ollie( 5 stacked decks), and longest Manual (or wheelie as us Old School guys call it) (45 ft). The demo was a real success, the band was great, and a big thanks to Lenny for promoting the sport of skateboarding.

The printed version of the article is on my kitchen table for all house-guests to read. I need to put extra copies in public restrooms 'round the area in case people need some reading material.

THURSDAY NIGHT NIGHT PATROL Report> SST, Mac T, Dholt, Jaybird, Rookie, Nix, myself, and Nix's brother-in-law Trip (a newbie to night patrol) hit it big tonight. Mac T got his new Evo Drop Carve with the sick speed set up in today, Jaybird broke out the piece of art Subsonic Drop Carve that is also tricked for speed, the Bozi's were in force, Rookie killed the Orange Julius as usual, and SST had his newest Billy Stick out (a throw back piece that reminded me of a Stacy Peralta G&S II)! Man, the boys were flying through the night air at Mac T's and Dholt's neighborhood. Then we took the show over to The Bario killer loop hill where DHolt may have changed that spots name to Boulder Dash (I will let him tell that story but all I can say is that was one sick SAVE!). After multiple runs we all killed another blind turn hill back to the Evan's house! It was an awesome Night Patrol with 8 riders in attendance! It was killer!

Just a quickie here, but the 1223 miles I drove this wknd(and still made it to work on time monday morn) to & from Winston-Salem's Hobby Park Skateboard Slalom/Downhill Hill was worth the drive big time! Not only is this hill possibly the greatest find since the early settlers discovered gold in those hills, but the hill is fast, steep, smooth, vehicle-free and shared this wknd by skaters who definitely love to get out and skate! T'was great to finally meet the DHB's and the Georgia Boys whom I only knew online(except GaTom, who still kicks my **s in ts everytime. It was great skating w/you all including J-bird, Rookie(not really a rookie)you guys, & D-holt..... you guys & NCLB himself(Marion) led me through that leaking barrel of stoke.....I didn't mind hiking back up the mountain all day....I couldn't believe we skated till nearly 6pm! Sure, the next day I was sore from hiking....I'm glad not to have experienced any falls.......We did leave a trail of urethane on the hill, didn't we? My Sunday skate session at Asheville was a rainout due to the tropical storm's arrival, but I'm glad we squeezed in the late-nite session at the black banks.....that's where I met even more DownHillbillies.....riding Billystiks, yea, home-cut boards made from old-school decks and set up w/Manx slalom wheels....these guys can rip out all the old-school tricks in the book on these boards.....I was happy just to watch all the action after my energy level crashed midway thru the session. All these guys were stoked to get some riding in late at night while their families slept or watched Saturday Night Live. One guy even had a wild contraption set up where he had 3 axles....this is no typing error....3 AXLES! He could maual on 2 of the axles while the front 2 wheels were in the air! Crazy stuff!! In a nutshell as I'm about to be kicked out of the library.....there is much innovation and home-made spirit in the western hills of North Carolina....guys making their own slide gloves(NCLB), thier own decks, wierd truck contraptions, etc! Everywhere we travelled around town Marion Karr is shouting out Hellos and waving to friends....it seemed like a great town in which to live and ride(Statesville). In the near future< Marion plans to have a race in downtown Statesville and at Hoby Park.....you'd be sure to come on down and race here as you WILL NOT be disappointed! Oh yea, there were plenty of Bozi Mad Bombers on the hill and one huge board....what was that, 60" or something like that....that one of the rad DHB'ers was racing thru the GS course. Oh yea, Marion, if you find that I left my shampoo in your shower, I did that on purpose! I will be back down again. Thanks to Marion & all the DHB's for your generous hospitality and for the super find and recycling that soap box derby hill. I had a blast....and the stand-up downhill was super fun too! Yo Anthony, you will love this hill!!!Adios amigos!

I was in Winston-Salem taking care of some wedding details (this Thurs the 16th) and got to Hobby Park around 2:30. I wasn't planning on riding because I didn't want to have road rash on my face for the wedding pics. I stood on the side of that hill with my mouth open watching Brian P, Marion, GA Tom, John D., D Holt, and all the others ripping up that steep hill at full speed. You could hear their wheels screaming as they hit an offset. I stood there in awe watching these guys. On the drive back north I decided to start practicing more and more. Time to step my game up. Thanks guys for the inspiration.
