yes you will want more than 50% on the front, and 60/40 seems reasonable. The last thing you want is to be tail-happy.
to really find out, screw the trucks to plywood and put the trucks on individual bathroom scales, then calculate the weight from the readings. someone else will have to read the scales when you are laying down

weight distribution?

What percentage of body weight should be forward? Is it a simple 60-40 ratio, or is it different for each car design? I'm building an open [no shell] to start with and going from there. This will use a rail-type luge frame and aluminum body pan. To figure body weight distribution, I was thinking of laying down on a plywood board that sits on a cylinder to find the balance point, then figure the ratio from there. Input appreciated .... thanks.

Hey nick, Iam trying to get ya, but it aint easy. I ll keep trying. Thanks Chuy for all the help you gave us HB second generation downhillers. Theer will only ever be one group of pioneers in the sport, and you were one of them. Thanks for your showing the rest of us how it's done. Every now and then some one post that they want to build a skatecar. I dont know why. If you dont get it right it will kill you. If you do get it right they can be very cool. Not everyone can drive one, it aint like streetluge. If you are interisted in building a skatecar, read all the early post on this site and then contact me for further questions. I can design one for you or build it , but it aint free. I have a design for a feet first skatecar based on Terry Nails SH skatecar and i will try to find that sketch, mabey I can post it. But I can answer any question you might have, for free. I have driven White Lightning, the Powerflex head first car, Powerflex's Green Machine , Dillbergs first skatecar, which set the record once, Hickeys feet first car. I think there were others, but it's been some time. My streamliner, named the Challenger, was not a skatecar in the pure sense, it was an unlimited class gravity car. It is in the skatelab museum I think. Contact me at Voyagerwsr@aol.com Cheers, Don Baumea

Were there / are there any East Coast skatecar builders/riders? Always thought it would be cool to build one of these for kicks. As a kid, skatecars were so fringe they were just plain cool.

Hey Boyz, (1)Beaumae, I was on the exec board of the ISA, I voted for you, I hung with Dave and you were one of our proteges remember? Terry howzit? I was glad you survided the car running over your skate car with you in it, that was heavy, but it was a buzz. I am still surfing and just put on the WCT Rip Curl PRO in Mexico (secret kind of) HA HA. I am still surfing. and putting on events and producing stuff. I see Roger Hickey he is still as belligerent and cocky as evdr but he beat everybody so thats the way it goes HA HA. I talked to Dillberg all of the time and he is as crazay as ever like the rest of us. ONLY Grrison HItchcock and Guy got invited to the first SH, does that count??? HA HA HA NO one shot ANaheil Hill from the top in a tuck but me. YAAAAHHHHH see you all later, stand up on your surfboard to call it surfing and stand up on a skateboard to callet skateboarding. Cliff Coleman is honest and a cool and unreal person. No BS out of his mouth, keep it up broh. Chuy

I tried to fit into that molded luge when I was with Bob Turner. at the last factory and I think at Ed Economy's. I was like 30 lbs too big.. I used to kneeboard downhill and had dreamed of a having a molded shell. Though with weight on the outside....something like that might have been very Unstable if it were to get the wobbles. I had tried sculpting styrofoam blocks with the hope of attaching them to my body and puzzling them together once in the prone position, in the hopes of getting that perfect egg shape for aero.. Yes I know...I would have being called the human turtle... or WORSE if I used white styrofoam......as the tail tapered to a point
I stopped racing prone on the East Cast after hitting a concrete divider at 40mph- missed my head by inches.

Gentlemen,
I would like to know if you have any recent contact with the legendary Skitch Hitchcock. Our family had the pleasure of hosting him and his friends sometime in the early 80s here at a military base here in the Philippines.
If you have his contact details, kindly pass on to him my e-mail address: pm_vasquez@yahoo.com or my snail mail address:

Thanks Rene, I never raced at Escape Country and I would have remembered racing you at that tme as you were already a name on the scene. Thanks for the lead on Dave. I dont get on line much these days. Signal Hill will always be special to me and also La Costa which is where I learned how to do the speed thing. Time does not change how I feel about those places and people. Cheers, Don Baumea Voyagerwsr@aol.com

Don Baumea -
I read your post -
-you had posted wondering Dave Dillberg's contact info-
I talked to Dave Dillberg today - and mentioned if I could post his email for future Skate Car Racer inquiries -
I mentioned it looked like a lot of Skate Car things are 'brewin'... and there's interest still.... and maybe newer racers could contact him for info..... he said 'Sure'.
Here it is - dillberg@aloha.net
Dave is one of the most COOLEST and KNOWLEDEGABLE cats I've ever known!
I'll NEVER forget - - - I went to an ISA meeting in Costa Mesa, 1976/1977- and Dave Dillberg was THE ONLY SKATER in that full room of guys- that would vouch for me - TO BE IN the ISA ! Lot's of my skater/friends were in that room - TOTALLY LAME on their part - - - TOTALLY COOL - ON DAVE DILLBERG'S PART ! So I made it in... Thanks Dave.
BELOW: 1970'S - GEORGE DRAPER AND DAVE DILLBERG, HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA.
Don, didn't my brothers and I race you @ Escape Country - in the 1975 WSA - S.C. Downhill Championships - the one Tom Padaca put on ? hmmmm.
Take care, ...-Rene CANNONBALL Carrasco. WWW.RENECARRASCO.COM
