9.8 meters per second is a velocity.
9.8 meters per second per second is the acceleration...9.8m/s/s...or 9.8 meters per second squared. Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity with respect to time.
Gravity is the force that stops you when you are going up hill....maybe a "gravitational stop" is the same as having an uphill runout at the end of the race course.

I think he might mean sliding of some sort. What else could it be? Backflips? Frontflips? Sideflips? Magically inverting and reverting gravity with your mind(that would be a good trick)? Jumping off your board and rolling down the hill until you hit something? All at 40+? Waste some webspace Digitaldojo, I know I want to hear about this radical new stopping technique. I already know how to slide so if thats it, just let us know.

Gravity accelerates at 9.8 meters per second, thats just rudimentary.
seems math and science weren't your best subjects either..
My brazilian counterparts don't even understand what you're trying to spout off about.

Hey digital you talk alot. Shut up and skate. I havnt seen you at any races in the area or out of the states for that matter. You arent even listed or ranked on any site. Just skate for fun and race for fun and if your good you may just win some money or just save that 10 grand you borrowed from your pops and feed your family.

My friend Nelson has it down, where he pushes the slide early, scrubs a tad bit of speed, and drawing on a Yoga pose that makes My knees Ache, goes right into a Shoot-The-Duck to carve out the bottom with, sometimes even switch. Nope, not with my old bones, but I do wish I could pull that one out!!

Um,maybe a kickturn?.Or,just bring the slide around only so far, thus actually preserving enough momentum to just keep rolling......

daz som funny s#@!, PAATTTHHHETICCCC I think u stay in America huh? Da kind people hear about Gravitional Stop? Like Inverting And Reverting gravity. Think about it, the force of gravity to stop u, 8.6 meters a second. Yea u no metric yea? You should see us brazillian Gravity skaters. You Americans dont evan have Gravity Dowhnhill skate comps listed on this site. America has allways been the last to upgrade there styles. But i still stay sory cuz i just read about stoping at 35+ with footbrake method.....HAHAHAHA Comma No ty. I dont mean to talk s#@! and i'm sory if some of U Arent World class. But Gravity Downhill Sk8ing is going to be the first skateboarding in the olympics. Its comeing soon, very soon-and Americans Dont evan know wtf a Gravitational stop.....OMG we dont have to worry about america. But hey been in headlines from brazil up threw the west coast-to Victory B.C. Threw out The last 9 years. Sounds like we should stop at places and start teaching the safest way to high speed stop. I am a world class Gravity skater. If want to find out whois touring oregon as of 6-8-04. E-mail me cuz i dont want to waste a buncha web space with people that say i'm full of s#@!. Sory for grammer and spelling english my 3rd language... eh ... yea.

easy sliding gloves

For me, sliding gloves are the difference between fear of falling and freedom. The latest set of gloves were made in about 1/2-hour and are holding together very well. I set the Skil saw for a 1/8-inch deep cut and made dozens of cuts on a plastic kitchen cutting board, spacing the cuts about every 3/8-inch, both lengthwise and crosswise. (A table saw would be easier to use.) Then the pad shapes were cut out and glued onto leather-palmed work gloves with Household Goop. The saw cuts give the goop plenty of bite on the cutting board plastic. The last set of gloves had dozens of 1/8-inch diameter holes drilled in about 1/8-inch deep, and the cutting board plastic finally wore through without peeling off the gloves after a couple of seasons. The saw cuts seemed quicker, though.

coned wheels slide easier?

Question: Do you think wheels slide easier when they've coned out a bit?
It seems that way to me and here's my reasoning on why. Coned wheels aren't the same diameter at both edges. Therefore, one side has to slip a little to "catch up" to the other, both are rotating the same rpm but want to cover different distances on the pavement. Because of this continuous creeping or slipping, coned wheels are really slow, and I think already slipping a bit and thus easier to break loose sideways. I really notice it when finally riding new wheels, they seem really sticky.

stand up and get as un aerodynamic as possible. only works at high speed when standing in an aerodynamic tuck.
footbraking you have your toes facing the directin your going. use muscle power to apply pressure to the dragging foot not weight. if you use weight you will get thrown off.

Can you guys tell me what the hell Airbraking is? Also, when Footbraking, do you just put your foor down with your toes facing the direction you're moving and drag your foot? Or do you put your foot sideways and drag it like that?
Thanks

Stopping at 35+

Hey J.C dont be so ignorant, sitting down is for emergency purposes only. If you get in a jam and cant slide or footbrake sit your ass on the ground, its better than getting hit by a car.
Rich, sliding is always a good option, even at speed. Learning how to footbrake is very important if you want to go faster. Footbraking gives you the ability to control your speed without scrubing to much speed, like sliding does. I have just recently become comfortable footbraking at 40mph+ and it has opened many mountain roads to me. Sliding and footbraking are your best options but do like Roger says and sit down when your in trouble.

I am looking for advice on how to stop at 35+. I haven't topped out at more than 35 mph partially because of my inability to stop at that speed. When I hit 25-30 I feel comfortable enough to slide out and stop but sliding seems a little crazy when you get up to 35 or 40 or more. I am looking to hit faster speeds but I would like some advice on how not to kill myself. Thanks Skate for fun, slide for joy, speed for thrills. rich

Adam, risers will likely help out some,as will careful selection of bushings in your trucks.Oscillations that cause the 'skip' effect while trying to drive a slide thru are usually something not-quite-right in the bushings or wheel tightness on the axle, but don't discount that you may be spanking your wheels onto the deck bottom (hence, maybe risers?).Your physical muscle tension can also set up bad 'vibes',where your stiffen a bit too much, and things get jittery really quick like (this snags many Downhillers,as once the Wobs start,RELAXing is a hard thing to do!). The advice on 'breaking in' your Bombers is also sound,as many wheels need some fluffin' + scuffin' to get a predictable feel to them. Do a "search" here on this site,in like 'Wheels' or 'Sliding' to see what myself and others have said previously about Bombers. It's a good wheel, usually, and I like it for sliding. But,check out all the veiws,as I've not yet run mine up past 45mph yet(hey,I've got bigger wheels for that stuff...),nor 'cooked' them by sliding for a few miles ...
