Flat spot

Wheels flat spot when your wheels stop spinning so be sure that your bearings are rolling smoothly. Try not to come to a complete stop when sliding because that wears down one spot on the wheel and will often be the cause of flatspots. Also be sure to rock your slides smoothly. when i first started sliding i had a pair of wheels that flatspotted and a while ago i put them on my sliding board and did some huge pendulum slides and the flat spots dissappeared. Also be sure to switch up toe sides and front side slides.

dear slider,
is it the boardslide that is the problem? i would just say gets some crooks rail gaurds for that and it can make low speed attempts a lot more acheivable with out having the curb bite into the wood. but i guess i should ask what is the most difficult part of that trick for you? i didn't really catch which was the most difficult part in the post. ollies and fakie ollie practice is what really did it for me so you never know. but that is super rad the whole slide/grind combo deal. its hard and my hats off to you. the only place i have ever had sucess with that stuff is in 711 parking lots. where the parking blocks can be lined up. but keep at it. the new one i am trying is the frontside bonless fingerflip to boardslide but i always land right on my ass!!

I was working on this slide and just cant get used to it becuase i never really was a short boarder and if i was i think that might have helped. Where i go to school out side of my dorm i have a curb that is about 1 foot and some high and a very long curb. I am trying to come in at an angle, hit a backside slide with a endo in it, pop up on the curb and board slide down for a second and pop off. It is a little hard to explain but i have gotten up before and i believe i will get it pretty soon. It isnt like my parents are paying for me to go to class in college, just to skate. Any advice out there.

OK.........yep i get it now. Sorry for the later reply all but i was nursing a road rash a$s after practicing you infamous backside a$s Slide. He He just kidding. I get it now though.......when your in a tuck coming up to a turn that you over guaged doing the emergency ass slide would be prudent rather than say.......sliding under that parked car and getting the exuast pipe somewhere it dont belong. Oh yeah I'll be at the Downhill in SF next month. Just got a new pair of leathers and need to break em in.

I'll be in Sydney on September the 5th and 6th. I don't know where to skate and who to ride with yet. I still have to find a place to stay. By the way, I actually arrive in Sydney on the 4th. I'll post the time my flight gets in as soon as I can, probably in the next couple of days. If you are interested in hooking up for my visit, leave phone contact information.
Thanks,

yeah thats just the toeside 360. if you compact your body into a tight ball while doing it you will go from each slide into the other creating a continuous 360. that and moving your feet as fast as possible. i mean your upper body will take care of itself but its the feet that really have to spin to connect everything into a 360 instead of two 180s.

hell no you didn't make me mad
if there is anyone who should appologize it is me. and i am sorry for wording the post in a manor that would be interpreted that way. i was just writing really fast inbetween doing different stuff and it came out totally wrong. no i love the fact that those wheels have blown open doors for your skating thats what it is all about, just having fun. the stuff you guys thought of i was just wondering about. not to knock it in anyway but there are a lot of people who post and can't really back up there own posts. kind of throwing words around to sound cool and thats not what i am about. i just wanted to know what you guys have been developing in your slides. i am happy to share any input i have if you guys are having problems with this or that. so sorry once again it came off bad
yeah the powell thing... it was super uncool to word it wrong. me and a buddy of mine have this war of what is better between powell and gravity and i just carry that over to the wrong forums.
if you are doing all of those slides that is very impressive. i have mental issues with the one hand layback myself and that obviously kills the whole knee slide element. but thats cool too. i'm working on it but its really the two handed toeside bluntslide that is my next project. well that and the tailgrab one foot coleman, but i have had more success with those so i have kind of moved to the toesides a bit more. man i am envious that you can do the whole 360 helmet slide...seems very mental but so cool to watch.
anyway sorry for the misunderstanding. more power to you in the skating. yeah videoing yourself is the best. man that blew up a bunch of doors for me as far as approach and everything. especially drawing different lines to compensate for fisheye lenses, that was sweet. but mr. slider keep doing your thing and good luck to your guys' new moves. i wait eagerly to see them. and stay safe!
by the way what city do you live in? i recently moved to a town with no paved hills and it sucks. you have to slap the traffic around to get any decent sessions in.
but yeah sorry for that once again...i feel terrible, its hard to have toneality come across in typed words.

I wasnt trying to make you mad but i was just saying those are good wheels. I can do every slide there that you have listed but the stand up slides. The only stand up slides i can do are a 180 front and back and a 360 front and back but they arent very nice. Where i skate we dont really have very large hills so all we really do is slide. I would love some larger hills. I am sure there are riders out there with slides i have never even seen. I just think myself and the guy i ride with are starting to put together some new stuff. I am excited all the time when i see people post with new moves. Maybe in a little i can post some of the stuff my friend and i have been working on. No camera and no money but i am working on it. I am not trying to make you mad sorry if i did.

dear slider, well what are these "thought" up slides. The most i know are coleman, fakie coleman, two-hand toeside slides, one-hand toeside slides, heelside 360, toeside 360, one-foot heelside slides, one-foot toeside slides, two-hand heelside bluntslide, one-foot toeside bluntslide, and heelside layback. you can add rail grab variations to the basic ones like the coleman and toeside. then there are the standing slides like front and backside 360 or 720, whatever you can spin it into. and that crazy s#@! sergio does, a heelside slide to fakie tailslide revert. and who could forget his heelside layback to knee slide. then you can do the whole brad edwards thing of sliding fakie into a 50/50 grind on a curb then revert slide out. i have heard of people trying the shove-its on a layback or two handed heelside slide. then there is manual slides. and anything switch i guess. that thats about all i can think of from memory, anyone got anything else?

Hey hey hey, since i have gotten the powell sliders i have bacicilly learned every slide i have seen on almost every video i have seen. Keep i mind the only videos i have ever seen are ones online. A friend and i have even thought up some slides that i have never seen before. I have been riding the powell wheels for good time and slide then at around 35 or below almost every day. The wheels themselves are getting smaller but they are wearing out even and they have no kind or V shape to them. I am very interested in hear about what kind of slides people are working on and if anyone have some new ideas they feel like passing on!

Jumbo,
thats great dude! the wheels really do make a difference in your progression. i am interested to see how your powells hold up in the long run. but those one handed toe slides are the hardest to learn. i mean they are easy and all its just how you use them. but good luck with all of those. by the way what kind of board are you using?

The powell bomber are the best wheels i have ever used to slide with. Sense i have started to ride them i am almost learning one new slide everytime i go ride. I would suggest those wheels over any other for sliding and they dont go bad easly.

i know this is no real comparison to go off of but i know the powell wheels are not that far off of the oj santa cruz and the gravity sergio yuppie's. i mean as far as what breamo has told me the whole durometer really only goes up to 100 so that 101 stuff is just a gimmic. I know the 64mm x 40mm 95a bowl bombers are a good wheel if you want something that wide. but its only 3mm wider then the ojs and 2mm wider then the gravity's so it isn't a whole lot but if you are interested in that slight difference then they might be for you. tell you the truth the gravity wheels are the best i ever rode period. but the ojs would be a close second in my book. as far as powell goes most of the guys i know who ride them only like use those wheels for certain situations so ite really up to you. i would call the powell, gravity, and santa cruz wheels basicly the top three that you would deal with in slides but that is for sliding if you know what i mean. some guys like to do park with slides or this and that, but if you are just going mach down a hill they will do you. I know the ojs seem to flake off if you don't have the worlds best pavement underneath you and the sergios will last longer. but with the harder duro i found myself going the extra mile for stupidity. its like cigaretts. ultra lights have less nicoteen but people smoke twice as much. much like the wheels. less traction more ridiculous. maybe its different for you but for me its that way. sorry if that one doesn't make sense. but unless the powells start to flake they will do what you want to for sure.
hc- trying to nail that one asap. i felt stupid posting it without nailing it first but maybe i need to do some yoga or something cause the 360 attempt is absurd. the only thing i can think of is also attatching some uhwm to the nose to slide it a bit better w/o ruining the deck. plus at the moment they are not at full speed cause its sketchy trying it slow...so it will go from there.
but much respect to your deal though hc. i agree with you on the whole but puck thing but it depends. if you were riding my set up a but puck would work. but not on a speedboard or slalom for sure. i wasn't trying to crush the idea just putting my two cents in. hehe. but keep it up. by the time we skate again i am sure i will need a pen a paper for those illustrious lessons. keep it real in sj.

just to be clear, I don't recommend it for safety reasons. when you fall on your ass, you want to slide to a stop as quick as possible for good reason. don't want to slide into the other lane, or some funky butt spin.
everett, I want to check out that one footed slide.

I know i am beating a dead horse here but has anyone put the one footed toeside slide into a pendulum. I keep trying but it only goes in a pendulum on accident. So i figured i would throw it to a 360 but the board doesn't get back to my feet cause i don't know how to do the delayed board throw to compensate for the centrifugal force. plus my uphill foot needs to be kicked about a foot higher to make room for the board swing. any suggestions? I mean its cool to do the slide but the whole pendulum or 360 would be...more interesting to say the least

I would say you have one more option if you didn't want to go with additional risers or a different wheel and that would be the line you choose down the road. either stance you choose if you go a bit over the direct fall route of a downhill line on a toeside turn then just go to the ground with your slide and throw the living hell out of your uphill hand. It can be really exausting after a few tries but it will work. Plus you might want to view your slides a bit more. with this i mean where is your butt in position to the rest of the board and moreover where is your board in position to a direct downhill line (by this i mean striaght down the hill like if you were going to roll a ball down the hill you are skating where would that line be). Other then that you can just medical tape a peice of leather on to your ass directly that way if the outer layer burns through you got that. sounds crazy i know but it can work especially if you are skating with an existing open wound there.
