South Pacific Masters Games
On 8/6/2005 Jim wrote in from New Zealand  (203.118.nnn.nnn)

The South Pacific Masters Games are being held over here in New Zealand in February 2006. This Bi-annual event s an 'Olympic' style event for 'Masters' athletes (anyone aged 30+++) We've officially got slalom skateboarding included as an event. Tentatively set for Sunday February 12th. Aged 30 and over. Not completely sure on what format it will take, this ultimately decided by the actual venue which we are currently scouting. Maybe head-to-head racing or simply time-trial, and hopefully a giant slalom of some form. Entry to the games is $35.00 (if you register pre-Sept 30) + $15.00 event entry (that's NZ Dollars!). Depending on numbers entered may have a 'Novice' division (essentially for those 'having a go on non-slalom boards) and an 'expert' division (for those competing on proper slalom set-ups.) Visit www.spmg.org.nz for more info on the games and to register your interest or e-mail me directly. Feel free to spread the word around any other message boards you frequent.

For those of you who are interested in checking out the parks and things over here I'm also happy to organise a few bowl tours / downhill trips in the following week to make the trip over fully worthwhile!

Cheers!

Jim

I dont think years of EXP. has any thing to do with being a master. If you guys trully love this stuff should see whats happening in central oregon. help us fight these stricted federal laws on our sport cuz the next year or so it will greatly impacted long boarders. help out a real master who is now faceing Class a or c felony (attempted Suicide)for his gravitational skate boarding. Help him out and recieve top of line gear and watch 21 year old Stevan L. Hemingway make world history. He is playing a game of chess with brazillian team bonzi and it was there move 8 months ago. Stevan has Debrissonquin meaning mutated primary drug receptor thats going to take his life in 12-14 years. Gave stevan a advantage over all other grav skaters. Debrissonquin removed the fear of death from him and he will not die on some medical bed he is going to make himself the most legondary and inovative skater in history or hes going to die trying. Come see him invert and revert the gravatational force while hes skate board's gyro goes into retromotion, and wittness mother natures brakes that is so safe that when gravity stops makeing apples fall to the ground is the day he will eat s#@! and die. Stevan tries to teach people this but they all dont want to studdy the gyro effect, retromotion, phsyics and most important of them all under standing Cryptology and the Binary notery code counting system. You time on a board is meaningless Stevan went from entering a 12 year old AM race and nearly broke a world record by the next race we was up against people twice his age and was in a PRO match. didnt take long b4 he came world class by up holding a 5 time 5 state wide 9 year undefeated champion in this America.

Rene,

I don't ever practice slalom. Especially tight slalom. I will be at this years worlds, but I probably will only compete in the SGS. If I get there early enough in the AM, I might get some practice in.

Tweener!?
On 6/11/2005 Miko wrote in from United States  (66.81.nnn.nnn)

I hate to say it, but the top ranking pros range from the late 20's through late 40's, and the middle of that age group includes Mollica, Olson, Hackett, Fluitt, EVANS-48!, Maysey-30...

This is no tweener category... it's the MAIN EVENT. Frankly I think 45 is a good beginning to a real Masters Division, but it's still wide open to debate. The fastest of us, including myself, don't really want to be shuffled off to another division, cause the hottest action is in the Pro class, probably the most fun as well.

What about a "tweener" division. Over 30 but not 45..yet. (Skate Gods and a good bone surgeon willing)

I am 41 just purchased my first long board, a WICKED OTS Cut-Out.
I need a division too. (SBAG) Slightly Balding and Gray Division. Is my Idea.

Wussup?
On 6/5/2005 Miko wrote in from United States  (66.81.nnn.nnn)

Just checking in... It's beginning to look like I'm going to have a harder time making it to races this year, and with my downhilling jones at a high pitch, I'm making my first race the Maryhill downhill. There's supposed to be a Super-GS there, so I'm stoked about that. I'm wondering how many other true slalom riders are going to make it there?

As many of you may have noticed, there's still no real organized "Masters" division becoming widespread at this time. Especially in speedboarding. Individual promoters might include the division, but it doesn't seem that many of the Masters really want to quit riding in the open or pro classes. It would be a drag to end up in some limited 'sideshow' just to determine a ranking.

Any comments on how we might achieve some form of Masters ranking, while somehow allowing them to stay involved in all-ages unlimited class racing? Hans (Korky)? Any thoughts on this? (Or are you way ahead of me and already tracking points?)

Just a shout to all my racing homies: Miss you all, and I'm still out there... See you on the course!

-Miko

Still surfing so I still see some guys from the old days. Grogs Team was such a great time, Monster Bowl, Spillway,Off The Wall etc. Hope all is well with you. Peace

Hey Cliff, thanks for the heads up!

June sounds good, just need to know what dates you'll be available and then we can jump into high gear and pull this baby off.

When I pump my deeck now with originals, I slide naturally. Just need to slide on extremely steep hills to check speed. Sounds like you got a technique!

How's your skogging coming ? :D

I'll be joining this illustrious group on July 5th, hangover included. Just wondering, besides Luna, are there any other contest that have a 45+ division? And if there are, will they let me do the 45+ and the open???

You see, more racing is better! 66 sees it as a chance to bag more schwag....

Chris,

I saw you slide without even trying at La Costa in about 75/76. You get free lessons if and when you want them. I'm busy this month racing and teaching sliding. Contact me via e-mail and when I get some free time, maybe June? I'll see if we might be able to hold a clinic for the skaters you work with.

Hope you don't mind me stopping in from time to time. Best wishes to all!

Street Sliding w/Coleman

Cliffy!

If it is so easy to do, why do I need a class?

So where are these clinics? I go back a long way with slides. I guess I'll pop my head into the sliding thread and see if you offer the class on-line :D

Lately after turning 50, I've been doing 50-50 aerobics on coping(50 times back and forth). So that would make it a 50-50-50-50 :D

And Chaput... you're too young to hang in here! get the F out :D

Chris Chaput and Chris Yandall
On 5/9/2005 Cliff Coleman wrote in from United States  (68.127.nnn.nnn)

Chaput,

Didn't you hear? The Masters contests will be raising the age of Master to 55. This takes place 334 days from now. Only Lloyd Kahn and I will be competing. Lloyd is 70 and successfully learned to slide last Saturday!

Chris Yandall,

You should take the time to make it to one of my slide clinics. It makes a skater so much safer after learning slide skills. It is also very easy to do.

Hope to see you guys again,
Cliff Coleman

How about you Rene? Grab your family members and make it to a clinic. Information on the "Cliff Coleman on Sliding and Safety" page.

It's not fair. I'm the second to the youngest of the old farts from "back in the day". Steve Shipp was the only pro younger than I was in 1976. So, you guys have to wait another 336 days before you can plan any 45+ Masters events. Otherwise it's like cheating (tongue planted firmly in cheek).

ahh. such love for all!

The geritol crew here! I fell 6 ft on a truck hang-up lapover last week and nearly broke my wrist but my wrist guards saved my ass :D

I made this one but later on that same week. OUCH.

Nice to see the older skate crowd still busting out text rants.

I just got a suzuki sv1000 to get my ass down to the beach quicker for more skate and surf. Having friends down at the beach is a must these days for inland surfers. And with my Honda XR400, california dirt is fun to eat!

Y0 Cliff~! :D

Knee Surgery
On 4/25/2005 Cknuck wrote in from Canada  (64.230.nnn.nnn)

Sorry to hear it Eddy!

Don't worry however just take the time to let it heal properly. I've had 4 knee surgeries 2 majors ( full recontructions) and 2 minors. As long as you take care they will likely heal without any problems.

I will advise you not to overstrain the other one as it is a common thing to do. You'll find yourself favouring the injured knee and applying more pressure on the non-injured one. It took me 2 years to rip appart the second knee.

So take Care and stay healthy I was looking forward to seeing this weekend. I guess it will have to wait until the Fall classis is upon us!
