riding in the rain will not only kill barrings, but warp decks etc....if you've the $$ to replace equipement as it dies, then sure have a blast, otherwise, wait for the sun 'cuz rain-skating's an expensive sport

hey i live in oregon and have been riding for sometime even in the rainy weather. Recently one of my riding buds told me it wouldnt be good on the board to always be working it like that in the rain my self on the other hand doesent think it really matters. Its a sector nine bamboo pintail. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Glen,
I suppose your talking Slalom? IMHO, for a complete you can't go wrong with sk8kings.com Axe or Axe II completes. Ride em right out of the box.
I also am a firm believer in Pocket Pistols. Chicken builds some fast stuff and you can readily find it used here in BST or at Slalomskateboarder.com
Good hunting...

Chris,
I'm not sure if the masters division will be starting at events next year. I'm collecting dates so the slalom ranking site can start a master division. They needed a baseline and to get started. I told them I'd help gather US birth dates.

Judi, We're going to have a Masters class next year? Is the age cutoff 45? Or maybe must turn 45 by a certain date? Can one be ranked as both a master and open or pro?
I just checked out the ranking page(s). Pretty cool.

My big brother Ray got inducted into the Hall of Fame - for Golf at Santa Ana College - I accepted the award on behalf of Ray - he is golfing in Spain.
RAY was MY MENTOR for my beginning skateboarding - back in 1959 - 1960.

- he looks kinda like Richy 'The Brown Bomber' - uh?
I hurt my left ankle back in June, -missed some races... and now it's FINALLY beginning to feel strong again.
I plan to go 'full bore' next year with skateboarding. It's gonna be a GREAT new year - with racing and freestyle !

Happy Birthday Rene! You were a Master in my book long before you made the grade age wise. Keep on rolling brother.
Claude, it was great to see you at the World's also. I did poorly racing, but still had a great time. Why? Because I got to hang out with all of my friends.
Best to all of you, Cliff Coleman

Worlds Masters Birth Dates

Starting today I will be helping Hans with his slalom rankings for the masters category to start in 2006. I need real names and complete birth dates for US riders, Han's will be collecting Euro... birth dates. It's never too late to start. Who knows maybe one day we will even have a grand masters category. At the rate we are all still skating you never know.
There are many women and younger skaters birth dates missing as well so if you see your birth date missing on the rankings please send them in.
Thanks,
Judi Oyama

Shoulder Injuries

I'm not sure when or where I hurt mine but when I started to Slalom regularly in 2001. It seems that from using so much I had an injury surface. I've taken a lot of falls since the 70's both on and off my skateboard. Probably did more damage to my shoulders playing other contact sports however.
I figure I'm lucky i've done so much inverted stuff and that has helped strengthen them substanicially. My Sk8 Team manager is now 25 and just had an MRI done, he will undergo surgery (microscopic) to repair the detached tissue. Apparently it is pretty common.
I usually spend a little longer warming up and stretching certain parts of my body before I got out and sk8 or even build and move ramps and such. Hope this helps.

Rotater Cuff injuries, anyone?

Since I am 44, and this seems to be age/conditioning related, I'll direct this to my fellow Silverbacks:
I just went to an indoor park for the first time in many years, and seemed to have tweaked an old Shoulder / Rotator Cuff injury. I was wearing pads (incl. TSG elbow / Harbinger wrist guards), and took several falls & slides from a quarterpipe.
Anyone here dealt with shoulder sprains / rotator cuff?
I used to skate vert & parks a lot in the 70's & 80's, and did some amateur level competition, and never had a problem with falling / sliding technique back then. I am guessing this is part age, strength, and conditioning (I'm 20# heavier, arm and shoulder strength not what it used to be) - I'm also suspecting that a slippery wrist guard is shooting my arm out in a different direction from the rest of my body when I fall.
I'm guessing the way to go is to lay off of vert for now, heal, and build up a fair bit of arm strength (and to lose some of the weight that contributes to impact! :-) Just looking for some insight from others that have been through the "never got hurt back then, but now it's different" bit.

Cliff, I'm sure you'll do great. I don't think I'll be going unless there is some major financial breakthrogh here at the sk8park.
We are in to a slow period for another four weeks and we are trying to get some money together to pay some bills.
It's frustrating because I haven't been skating with much pain the last few contests and despite no practice I've done okay.
Anyhow Good Luck! If there is a way for me to make it, I'll be there! PSST, I won't driving this time either.

Cknuck,
Thanks for the well wishes at the Worlds. Are you not going to make it? Hope you are doing fine. I spent a week in BC earlier this year and loved it! For Slalom I decided to race pro this year after becoming the "B" group winner in SGS last year. I don't see the end yet, but one never knows how long they have at it. At 55, I hope to knock off a few pros. Will I do it? We'll just have to wait and see.

right here in Anaheim, Calif. ,
I dated a gal [NICKY ] from New Zealand back in the early 1990's...
-we used to hang out at Marri's Pizza and she would tell me stories about New Zealand...especially about the beaches...SURF!
She was a cool 'Kiwi' !
I always wanted to go to Australia, and now I'm gonna include New Zealand - if I ever go.
uh oh, ...is this post slalom related?
