Too late to be first with a Masters event. The Oregon State Games has had a Masters division for the past couple of years.
You can do it bigger and better, but you can't be first.

We need to have a registration area for Masters Division. If we have enough people we may be able to organize some events. What is the offical Master Division age? 45+, 50+ 55+, is anyone interested?
If we have enough I will work on putting the first Master Event!

Paul,
An early Happy Birthday to you. Welcome to the Masters. You have plenty of skating ahead. Lloyd Kahn is 71 and is a good skater.

Good point John! It feels to me that the whole Masters thing is being held at bay until that large group is over 45...So for People who raced at Am against the young hotshots, they will then get to race against the other group who always finished ahead of them! Thats attractive I'm sure... MD

Oct.4th I truned 45. I've always raced as an Am in Slalom. So.. With all the Pro's reaching this age will there be a division in the Masters? I see a very large group joining soon.Pros and AMs.Maybe Pro-Masters will be "Grand Masters"?

I drove all the way to the Pump Station last weekend to finally meet you & you didn't show up.
Don't let me drive all the way down for the Harbor 100 and have you not show up again.
I'll have Richy give me your address & there will be hell to pay!

"One more month to go",
In one more month, I'll be 58. Are tyhey going to have an over 60 division soon? I'd be the favorite and the only one, ouch! In the future, they should have multiple age divisions to satisfy all racers.

Well, it's been a hectic year. I turned 54 in august, and as you all probably know, haven't made it to a race since 2005 (Maryhill!) Colorado Nationals was my last official slalom race (it was on 52nd my birthday weekend—I finished 11th overall so I went out with a bang for an old dude).
I occasionally make it out to the Norcal session w/Judi, Cat, MJ, Ravi and crew and am thinking it's probably time to get to a race. I'm planning on calling all the Masters out for one big showdown in '08 and it would be great to target a major race at a GREAT venue (high speed GS and TS on a good surface) and lobby for a real Masters category . . . there needs to be enough of us for it to be a real race, so let's think about this and see if we can target a race for the BIG SHOWDOWN!
Injuries so far this year (from mountain biking and dirt jumping) . . .
Feb: knockout at Ben Lomond skatepark.
April: broken back @ t12—broken ribs #2 and #3 at sternum #11, #12 on sides—unconscious for 3+ minutes—5 hospital days, but NO surgery and minor nerve damage . . . I was super-duper lucky on this one.
June: rebroken ribs on sides.
Sept: Fractured ankle @ lower tibia (minor)—still limping around; broken Giro Xen helmet w/no knockout! (separate incident)
Oct: Injury free so far!!! Trying to keep it mellow on the jumps and trails.
All-in-all, it's been a really rough but awesome year! I'm still skating and think with a bit of regular training I'll be back and ready to race in '08 (probably one slalom race and maybe one downhill)

Norski! Nice to see you sk8ting again, EH!
Gib, the back is a very tender part of everything we do. When it hurts it can knock you out like nothing else. It use to kill me wen I had to foot brake.
Now it just hearts when I get worn down throughout a race weekend.

I was really looking forward to the Slalom World Championships in Statesville. It seems that my new, much faster, pumping style has generated back pain that has taken weeks to subside however. Things are on the mend and I will return in force at later races.
Oldsters, be careful how you pump. Things can get twitchy.
