Hello Mark,
the slide scene here in Hamburg seems to be me, but actually I'm more a surf style skater than a slider. There are a few longboarders around, but they are a verry rare species. I once tried to organise a slide skool, but the response was verry bad. A few weeks later I broke my arm during a bowl session and I could not care about finding some longboard pals since then. Now, the streets are wet since October and I can't wait to ride again. I think about coming to Cornwall with my family, but right now, my purse is to empty for that. I know a german longboard forum called longboardz, but the guys there are more downhill orientated and the forums traffic is low as the subject matter of the topics. Maybe there is a slide scene somewhere in south-germany - I don't know. If you really like to arrange a european session, it could be an idea to contact some german skateshops, so they could be sponsor and send some newsletters.

Hey Derik from Germany! Sorry to interupt but could you tell me what the slide scene is like where you are in Germany? How many slide? What do you all get up to? Etc? We would like to know as trips to Europe are far easier than America. Would really like to arrange a European session for all us Faltown Mobsters! Any help will be greatfully received, cheers Mark.

Hi Derek,
I had the same problem the last season. What helped me a lot, was to do a serial of two or three 180s. I found out, that my speed was much to low for the second and even the third 180. And second, my stance was somehow insecure when going downhill in the goofy position. So I concentrated in doing slides out of the goofy position for a few days. After the sessions I watched the faltown slideskool videos and practised the 360 movements "dry" without a board. Some weeks later I decided to go faster and throw more torque into the turning of my body. I lost the board a few times and did some wonderfull 360s and even 540s on my kneepads, but at the beginning of autum i made it.
Hope this helps a little.

360`s for derek

keep going on your progression derek! Couple of hints for 360`s-I suggest you start with a hs360 as it only a slight variation on the Coleman. When you are starting to learn initiate the slide with a good hs carve across the road, the amount can be reduced as you improve. Most importantly ensure you twist the torso uphill while placing both hands as close to your rear wheels as you can, imagine a dog chasing his tail! Hope this helps but nothing works better than your own regular commitment to sliding-you`ve got to do it, to do it!

hey cliff i just started sliding a couple weeks ago and i already got the coleman slide, surrender, toeside, and i think its call a pressure slide (surrender to heelside slide and then pendulum back?) Anyways the thing i am stuck on is doing 360s of ne kind (coleman, pressure, heelside, toeside...) I tried kicking out my leg when i get near the 180 sticking point but i still cant get all the way around. Am i not going fast enough or is my technique wrong? Any suggestions? Thx

Gaucho,
I had to postpone my trip to Brazil and Floripa. I would like to visit in October and see the Tutonia (sp)? If I do, I will try to come early and then stay for the race.
Later, Cliff Coleman

Darren,
Nice to hear from you! Please send along a hello to Jonny. I hope your surguries work out well and wish you a speedy recovery. Maybe we should try and set up another Festival/Clinic in Bristol sometime? I'd love to hang out with you guys again. Say hi to Casper also.
The photo was from about 1980? That speed suit lasted until the late 90s. I looked back at Barrett Junction to see what happened to Rick Kludy who had just come off his board and I ripped the old suit. Nothing lasts for ever, especially me.

Hey Cliff!! I always visited the NCDSA but only in the Speedboarding in Brasil forum, and having a better read I saw your forum in here. A good friend of mine, Sergio told me just good things about you. You will be very welcome in Florianópolis when you come back again. I hope to meet you soon. Lets have some fun riding in Brazilian hills !!! Don´t forget the leather suit, just for a smooth ride in our roads too !!!
Like we say in here... Big hug to you my friend!! See !

Hi Cliff hope all is well, Its been a bit quiet on this forum so I thought I would spice it up with some old school nude skating from yourself.. (or is it a speedsuit?) Things are pretty good over here, I have had one knee fixed and the other one is being done on March 2nd.. So hopefully I should be skating again by the end of the summer.. Jonny is living in Bristol also. Would love to see you over here again sometime... Keep on Shredding

Hey Cliff - How's it going? Hope you're having a safe New Year thus far. I just listened to the spot you did on NPR a while back, it's got me excited to skate. I was wondering if you have any plans for travelling at all this year. I live in Connecticut and I'm looking to get out west atleast once this season... maybe to race slalom or downhill, but I'd love to just travel around meeting up with other skaters to just cruise with 'em. Let me know if there are any events you're planning on attending, I'd love to do some sliding with you. Regards, Brian

Ghooste,
I ride both hard and soft wheels depending obn where I am going to ride. When I want to roll for many, many miles, I like the new Speedvents at 79a. I also like many of Abec 11's wheel line. I use there Gumballs mostly.
When I ride hard wheelos, I use Powell Peralta mini cubics at 97a.
Ghooste, Happy Holidays and please send my best wishes to all in the UK! Cliff Coleman

love the gloves ,they're cool. I like a bit more plastic on the ground, though i was thinking ,it's real easy to make bigger uhmw slider parts ,maybe a extra velcro strap around the fingers, i see their functional aspects but i don't have much use for a rail grab while sliding.
