Montreal
On 3/8/2001 TSONE wrote in from (198.168.nnn.nnn)

This city is definitely intense for down hill longboarders. It is built around a mountain (large hill) The area called westmount is sick with well paved steep long unpopulated roads, good snow clearance as well... boarded well into november. In response to the guy who also wrote about montreal, my buddy actually rode down Hotel de ville; a street so steep that the sidewalk has stairs. another street clark is consideed by my crew to be the unconquerable hill. you look at it and wonder "do cars make it up that?" Our attempts have resulted in nothing but road rash

you go west on kittridge off valley circle. It's in the very back end of the park. When I was a mere lad it is where I learned to skate banks. In the mid late seventies through the mid eighties when I skated it last it was a cool place to go. Not the best ditch in the world but never once in the ten plus years I rode there did I ever get run off by cops or even hear of anyone getting run off.

Probably not worth a trip if your not close by, I certainly wouldn't drive up from OC just to check it out.

i'm going to mission beach with a bunch of my friends for spring break and one of our main objectives is to bomb hills. i know part of the fun is finding the quality ones, but if anyone can direct me to a previously searched out spot or a good ride than thay would be excellent.

route 56 aka camelback fuck ray, AZ
On 3/7/2001 matt wrote in from (209.180.nnn.nnn)

i live in the valley of the sun, that's right, i live in a valley. that means not many hills, but if anyone has heard of camelback mountain than they know what i'm talking about. it's a good little ride. you can hit just over 35 mph if you take it all the way from the top. the road intersects camelback and 56th. and if you catch the light at the end, you can ride it all the way into phoenix( about 5 miles ). but if you shoot for the light and fail to get it, or have too much speed and didn't carve hard enough at the end of the main run, then it'll really fuck you. it did to my friend ray.

Juliard Boulder, CO
On 3/5/2001 Tim wrote in from (128.138.nnn.nnn)

If youre looking for an amazing hill to ride, this is the one.
At first it is super intimidating and seems imposible but is
somehow possible. Youll need a long deck and good gloves.
Each turn envolves sliding to keep speed down. About half way
down, there is a sick paved loop on the left side that allows
for a speed check and a nice banked turn. The rest of the hill
is a little less steep so slidding isn't neccissary. Traffic is
a little bad around 5:00 so try to avoid that time. I thought
the hill was impossible at first but I can now say I have done
it. It is really sick!!!!

Highway 93, boulder
On 3/5/2001 Tim wrote in from (128.138.nnn.nnn)

Found a great new cruiser between Boulder colorado and Golden.
From Golden, drive north on highway 93 about 5 miles. The hill
is a sidewalk switchbaking down a hillside on the right side
of the road. It is visable from quite a ways away so keep an
eye out for it. Pull off in the dirt pull off about half way
up the hill and walk down the dirt road to the sidewalk.
The cruise is about four minutes and can be as fast as you want
but watch out the first couple switchbacks are tight and may
cause a little bit of slide at speed.

west LA, banks
On 3/4/2001 Glen wrote in from (216.102.nnn.nnn)

Well, you happen to be in the location of one of the most historic skate spots ever. This spot has 12' high banks, 6' high banks, 3' high banks and has recently been resurfaced.
The spot is Revere school, Sunset Blvd and Mandaville Cyn Rd.
It has been skated since the 60's and is to skateboarding what Pipeline or Sunset is to surfing.
Wear pads it's deceivingly easy to skate.

Anyone know of any smooth old school banks, cement structures, bowls, pools etc in LA Area? I saw in Venice Beach and Huntington Beach areas small skate park-type banks smooth concrete but they are not 'skate parks' but small banked structures probably city-funded for skating...Anyone know of any others?

Disenyland's New Parking Garage, Aniheim, CA
On 3/2/2001 Brandon wrote in from (4.18.nnn.nnn)

2:00 a.m. on a Saturday nite, we drove in from the south and parked by the elevator, we wasted no time. There is a straight run down the center of the structure with a simi-smooth finish. We carved the first run, hurried back too the elevator, got too the top and BAM! Security was fast approaching, so the second run we bombed with the Diseny Police keeping a safe distance back all the way down. They were pretty cool about it, gave us a ride too the truck and let us go with no incident.

It's about 1 mi., not too steep, but the asphalt is smoove (Bel Air property taxes, thank you!)
There are a bunch of similarly fun, wide, well graded streets between Wilshire and Sunset. I'm more into carving than balls out speed, but if you're down for carving, this area is radradrad. Always puts a grin on my face.

I"ll ride with anyone who's up for it.

The park has many great runs on the loop inside the park. Many paved paths. Bring your off road gear for the boulders, hills, dirtpaths and speed bumps. The off road action is frowned upon so heads up.

herbn,
I rode CHSP starting on a G&S kicktail, bennets, and kryto reds. Alva 8x29, mid tracker, red krytos followed then an Alva 10x30, indys, and alva conicals, green. Copped my first tile and vert coping grinds in the egg bowl but spent the most time working up to that in the little street bank bowl. I would love to hit those banks with my longboard. Wally Holiday (the builder) has a website; pics of Shogo in the egg.

Here`s a pic of wear I earned many badges of honor. Small pool only 6` deep, quick tansition and 2` vert. Learned how too do inverts here.

The place got it`s name `cause of the many rats spotted there. Probably due to the close proximity to the McDonalds dumbster in the next lot.

The city filled it in around 80-81 but I can just imagine the killer gaphics we left behind under that dirt.

Cherryhill
On 2/24/2001 Herbn wrote in from (216.107.nnn.nnn)

That park was amazing, when i got out to Cali, right before the demise of many parks, i rode, upland, whittier, pomona pipe and pool, and marina in the course of a week, while they all had some cool features, except Pomona kind of sucked,Upland you had to be local(i wasn't)Marina and Whittier were cool, both combined had about as good as half of Cherryhill,Marina's banked slalom was the only exception there was nothing comparable at Cherryhill.Anybody that rode Cherryhill ,regular, maybe on sundays,i had a Shogo Kubo,Mag extracks copers, and Powell Cubics (x hard 1st batch)for most of the time i was there,i did fairly big fly outs after wheeler in the 3/4 pipe out into the bowl or the halfpipe, grinds on the 2.5 ft deep shallow end with vert and coping (second bowl)deep to shallow grinds in the egg and 1st kidney, well those are just the unusual stuff i used to be into that someone might remember.eeh; i doubt it:)

the parking garages downtown, the hills on the main bluff down town(all 6), the entrance ramp by the YMCA just south of downtown. Cole park. THe hill by the coliseaum, Cole park, oops i said that. but the best is the federalpost office parking garage, its back in downtown , its seven stories high, just look in the main part of down town youll find it. the snake run at cole park and the straight hill bomb are fun. go to caribbean skate park, drive down spid, before you hit the island take a right on LAGUNA SHORES in the bluff. Keep going and its the first left at the first stop sign.
