Lake County spot #1
This is a fairly decent road to ride, but the only problem is that there is a constant traffic flow from dawn till midnight. Bright moon sessions are the go. Just east of the small community of Soda Bay is a hillside leading up to Riviera west. I would say it's maybe a 5-6% grade, with mostly gradual corners. There's a slight decline as you reach the straight stretch through Soda Bay itself, and then there's another small s-turn before the flats. The road itself was hot graveled last summer and I wasn't sure how it was going to settle, but I rode the other night down part of the grade and the traction was good. Pretty soon, under the next full moon, I am going to give the whole section a run.
I'm scouting out other spots in this damn county as well.

Unfortunately, BoBo's post confirming closed-road riding at Loch Raven Reservoir ended up in the Crashing Forum. Sorry to hear of your misfortune, BoBo; but I'm glad to find my old recollections are still accurate. Be aware that the area with the closed roads is on the east side of the reservoir. Despite BoBo's impression of the size of Loch Raven, it actually has about 20 miles of shoreline, so finding the correct spot is important. Perhaps, while his arm and wrist are recovering, BoBo might favor us with specific directions. I always seem to be lost when I'm out that way. I've managed to find the closed road sections of the park by coming up Loch Raven Boulevard from the south and by crossing the Dulaney Valley Road Bridge, from west to east.

No really! I live in a town of 65,000 five minutes away from the sickest hill I've ever skated and the only people who are out there are me and my friend Bert. Seriously now, you mean there's no other Santa Fe riders? I'd think about moving, but I just can't get enough of this ride...

nights during bridge construction the 2km (short) cut through stanely park (downtown vancouver) is closed... pure fresh asphalt three lanes wide... drops fast as a huge left turn... nice speed. fully lit, towering trees and dead silence: nice in the urban environment. big fat carves... once in a life time chance to bomb this one as construction will be over soon. any area riders should drop me some mail to hook up to get some more of us out bombing.

Andy, If you live near Liberty Reservoir, you're surrounded by hills. Maybe you don't drive yet, or something like that; but if you were to head, generally, any diretion other than east, you'd be sure to find something. I'm in the Gaithersburg area and have found the local state park to be very skate tolerant. Although I've never skated there, I recall some decent hills in Patapsco State Park, which is in your neck of the woods. If I had to guess where I was at Patapsco SP, I'd have to say somewhere north of Marriottsville on Marriottsville Rd. (It was a very long time ago.)

Yes, PCB, if the park is on the left side of Bero, then Bero is definitely the road I use. Like I said, for me, it's just one of those places I've always been able to locate by sight. The odd thing is that when I look at the map, it just doesn't seem right. I'll have to check it out next time I'm up that way. I fully admit, with all my experience there, I haven't been there in the past 2-3 years.

GBJ, you were probably confusing Ryerson Cir. with Bero. You're describing the park to be the opposite side of Bero than where it really is. When looking at the map on the Mapquest page, Lansdowne is in the area surrounded by Bero to the west, 295 to the east, the 295 loop to the south and the corner of Niagra Ct and Freeway Rd to the north. The park has no marking on any map that I’ve ever used to locate it. I see now that when I said to go down Bero and “look for the orange gate on the right” that I got my R/Ls confused. When driving on Bero going South, the gate is on the left side. I also know that there is a much shorter path off Bero that takes you directly to the top of the snake run, but I’ve never gotten directions to find it and never investigated where exactly it is. Maybe it’s at Bero and Caledonia. Sounds like you were having some pretty wild times at Lansdowne. Each time I've been there (since '90), the 50 or more skateboarders ruled it over anyone else. There was one BMXer, but he was more or less sharing the park.

Actually..., PCB, am I wrong? Coming from Hollins Ferry, is the park on the left or right side of Bero Road? If it's on the right, then the park is "River View Park", and the entrance situation is as I described. Do you see where Ryerson Circle comes very close to the shaded area of the park? There's a very convenient paved path that cuts through the houses to the park. If, however, I've completely lost my bearings and the skatepark is on the lefthand side of Bero, then I apologize for getting it wrong and thank you for correcting me. For me, it's one of those trips I make by repetition memory and visually. I've been going there for so long that I've never really known any road names besides Hollins Ferry off of 695. I looked at the map and assumed that the entrance I'd been using was Ryerson Cir.

Ok, PCB, what's your point about "actual"? Am I wrong? I wasn't aware of the entrance off of Bero, but if you park by the path, on the lefthand side of Ryerson Circle, which is also an entrance to the park, it allows you to be parked within about 50 yards of the top of the snake run. There is also a gated vehicle entrance at the end of Ryerson Circle, but it is almost always gated. I've been skating Lansdowne for the better part of the past twenty years, and the situation can change from day-to-day. I've been involved in "rumbles" with violent local BMX gangs, occasionally been able to enter via the lower vehicle entrance, parking my car right beside the lower bowl, attended more than one "Save Lansdowne" contest/jam, when it was threatened with demolition. Through it all, the concrete remains inviolate. Bero Rd? Ryerson Cir? Either will do, and neither is "right". Just check out Lansdowne when you get a chance.

the sidestreets off lakeshore avenue just east of the freeway snake up gentle slopes for miles. you can pick up good speed cuz the roads are hella smooth. downside is that the lanes are kinda narrow, so keep your foot-dragging or slides handy.
for a scenic casual carve, there's the sidewalk starting from near the bird estuary that slopes down past the pillars on the east end, keep carving 'round the lake till you get to the library about two miles later. when the wind is howling off the lake (pretty common), follow whatever direction it's blowing in & make like one of the sailboats on the water.

I was at Lansdowne about 1 week ago. The actual location is on Bero Rd, just about where it ends. Take Hollins Ferry Rd, then Bero Rd going South, look for the orange gate on the right and that's where the path to get to it starts. Don't drive up the path, park there on Bero. Here's where the gate is as per Mapquest, copy and paste the URL (hopefully it will work): http://www.mapquest.com/cgi-bin/ia_find?link=btwn/twn-map_results&random=565&event=find_search&SNVData=&uid=&address=Bero+Rd+%26+Burbank+Ct.&city=Lansdowne&State=Md&Zip=
I'd find the aerial photo of it on Terraserver, if Microshaft hadn't screwed it up by requiring a proprietary software program.

It also occurred to me, BoBo, that if you are looking to cruise some roads and hills, you may find some friendly riding environments up around Loch Raven Reservoir on the weekends. If my memory serves me correctly, there are sections of the roads around Loch Raven that are closed to motorized traffic on weekends in the summer. Sorry I don't have more information, but I just seem to recall closed, Park roads, with lots of people walking, bicycling and rollerblading.

The old, pre-vert, concrete skatepark, commonly known as Lansdowne, is well worth the trip and doubly worth the price (free). The long upper channel is a little tight for longboards to work from wall-to-wall, but if your screaming down the line almost any sized board will work. The first turn of the snake run is longboard heaven. It's a big, 1970s, Florida park-style righthander, out of which there are numerous lines that can be followed into a few different areas of the park. The reservoir end of the park tends to see the most action, with people pushing in from the tall wall and doing lines aroung the bowled end and over the mid-reservoir moguls. Have fun. Lansdowne Rules!
Using www.Mapquest.com, I have located the park, identified on the map as "River View Park", on Ryerson Circle in Baltimore. Take the northern entrance onto Ryerson Circle, and drive down, watching for the sidewalk that cuts between the houses. This is the easiest access to the park. Find a parking space on the street and cut through to the park.

Hard to find skate spots without too much traffic around there though. Check out the Cape and down towards Scarborough. Need more riders in Santa Fe now!!!! Ski Basin Road- 15 miles long, all down hill, Crazy ride....

Any riders have favorite spots in Bend? There is *so* much development going on here. I've been all over Awbrey and found some nice hills. It's tough to find the good, long, fresh asphalt stuff though. It's all really short.
If anyone has any good leads, let me know. Also for any good spots in the area. Thanks.
