I recently moved back to Spokane and discovered longboard heaven, except for the fact that noone else longboards in this town.

Spokane longboarders -
who are you?
where are you?

Please contact me as I am in dire need of riding partners.

They fixed the seams/cracks in the pavement at the intersection with the same smooth stuff the hill is paved in, did the turn at about 30,very sick, the last carve before the turn was soooo intense, then i put a glove down in the turn because i expected to slide ,but i didn't,just came rocketing out onto the flat side street. Yee haa!

I've outgrown the hills in my neighborhood in New Haven and am looking for anything cruisable but not too intense in driving range. And I got plenty of my friends into longboarding, but we're always looking for more company. Anybody out there that can help?

Thanx GBJ,You're absolutely right, it is in Delaware...and it is flat! As for skateparks, I've never tried one.
Maybe I can find an indoor garage or something...

Rehobeth Beach
On 8/19/2001 GBJ wrote in from (24.38.nnn.nnn)

Repairman Cam, I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure the only Rehobeth Beach I've ever heard of (living in the Mid-Atlantic region) is in Delaware, not Virginia. Whether you'll find something to ride is a matter of what kind of riding you want to do. There may be some skateparks, including the Ocean City, MD park that is not too far to the south of Rehobeth. Hill? None. Rehobeth Beach, as are most of the Mid-Atlantic beaches, is built on a barrier island (read: sandbar) where no piece of land rises much higher than 10 ft. above sea level. Considering that the islands are surrounded by the sea, if you want to ride anything with a vertical drop of more than 10', you're going to have to ride into the ocean. Unfortunately, even when you cross back to mainland you will find things to be just as flat.

For all you Bay Area Canyon Carvers,

There is a 2 series book out there call Roads to Ride by Grant Peterson (of Bridgestone and Rivendell fame, retrogeeks unite!) that cover all roads in the Bay Area in individual topographic profile.

From the book,

Roanoke Area
On 8/15/2001 longboardkook wrote in from (216.10.nnn.nnn)

I just wanted to say that the Roanoke area is a cool place to skateboard. They got tons of hills out there and three free skateparks not too far from eachother. The Roanoke skatepark was fun to ride on my shortboard (39" Sector Nine). Wish I would have had my 42" Lib Tech with me to hit the strange banks and multi-level mini halfpipe. Wile I was in town, I got a chance to skate the Salem park and it has to be the smoothest surface I have skated in years. The place was a hit with the street skaters but had some wide J-ramp quarters to drop in on and get some kickturns in. There was even a concrete track that circled/triangled the park. Ten times around made for a mile and I burned out my legs pumping my new Comet around the track for a full mile. The skaters had no idea what my Comet was for.

If I'm not mistaken there is a downhill luge race that will be run in Roanoke next month. I might come down just to see them race.

Well, I have to send a thanks out to Denns and his West Virginia skateboard crew along with the Roanoke skater that showed me the skate spots. It was a blast hitting those trannies at the Courthouse and watching WV skateboarders try to do the long hand rail. Like Chaput, I can't ollie and I'll probably never will but those kids have guts to even attempt hand rails like that.

Wish I could have got to bomb some hills with Eric Moore but I'll be back for business in the near future.

If you are ever in the Roanoke/Virginia Tech neck of the woods, bring your quiver of skateboards. It will be worth your while.

Laters,
DR

Eric,

I'm at the Hotel Roanoke. I skated the Roanoke skatepark, the Courthouse Trannies, and Salem last night. My meetings ended out early today and I got on the road but my car broke down 1/2 hour north. So I'm back at the hotel. Give me a call here if you are on line.

Laters,
David Riordon

I know a couple of place to ride in Montreal (Quebec Canada). Anybody interested in visiting your northern neighboors? Lots of place in the house and good rides at night.

Dont blame Canada.

Ride it.

On 8/14/2001 Loneskater wrote in from (159.87.nnn.nnn)

to Eric, there are many good places in Arizona. there is so much new paving going on you just have to look. from Casa Grande (flat and hot) to Showlow/Pinetop/Lakeside (cool and very rural) as always be on the lookout for the man. there is a tendancy to brand us as gang members due to being on skateboards, don't ask me why. there are numerous parks throughout Phoenix, Chandler has some killer bowls, go late or early because the place is loaded with kids. the huge bowls (2) are a gas, it is off Alma School road. Flagstaff has a good park. I stay away from Encanto and Scottsdale, formerly known as the Wedge because it is not longboard friendly. If you are looking for hills head north, once again the area is rural so be polite. I don't know much about the Tucson area but there are some hills south of the city. I road a ditch there once around 1988 and don't remember much of the city. good luck, have fun and be polite as possible. skates rule!

I left you a post over in slalom, but a post can get lost over there pretty easy. How long will you be in Roanoke? I'm free the next couple nights, but the weekend is no good. Email me and we can hit those hills!

Longboardkook,
Watch your back 'round there. Until W&L and Hollins are back in session it's Deliverance country around there. Wish I was there, could use a skate partner/instructor.
