Lady Lake, FL
On 3/12/2002 Scabs wrote in from (66.21.nnn.nnn)

Well I didn`t get to skate and didn`t bother taking pics but I did fibd some nice hills around the Lady Lake area. I had to drive 4 1/2 hours north and got delayed on departure by 1 1/2 hr. That meant arriving in unknown area after dark if I doodle dallied my way up there.

Anyhoos, the area has many lakes and the surrounding land was hilly (by FL standards) with heights dropping about a hundred feey at most. Normally this is streched out over a half mile or so but right at the lakes edge, there were roads with a steeper incline heading down to the lakes. I found two that were newly paved and could hold a small hybrid or tight course of no more than 400 feet. Both roads ended at a perimeter road which was generally flat and good for a run-off area.

Problem is that it is 2 1/2 hours away and no local skaters. All retirees and no kids (under 60). Better off spending my time at the dump road....

Queretaro
On 3/12/2002 Duane wrote in from (68.15.nnn.nnn)

Slim pickins. Pretty flat, its a plateau but there are large hills all around, sometimes with a few luxury homes. These areas are often gated. The pavement is generally rough, and rougher. I like the city, much much better than Mexico DF. Found more use for golf clubs. Some of the highways have large, long grades that I thought would be nice, even if a little rough, but the Uzi-totin' federales always turned me off.

China Tianjin

I've been in Tianjin with my brother for 8 months now and we came with our Longboards. The streets are good to ride because there is bicyle lanes everywhere and the asphalt is very smooth. But it is very dangerous, not for us but for the Chinese peoples. We were the cause for some bicycle accidents and a car accident. It's because when we go for a ride, they stare at us like if we were aliens from outer space, so some time they don't pay enough atention to the traffic and... Bang. So now we ride only during night time, it's much more safer.

Lost Wages (LV, NV) report
On 3/11/2002 Henry Sarria wrote in from (67.227.nnn.nnn)

Just got back last night from Vegas & here's the recon intel on some fine-ass ditches (I SAID DITCHES !). Going north on I-15 just when you're about to get to Exit 48, which is the Craig Avenue exit, look to your right. There's a 2 sided dealie that's relatively fresh. Cold joint bottom, but skateable nonetheless. No hassles had there. It also connects to a network of ditches accross the way underneath the I-15, but didn't have time to check it out. Had some bmx racing to do. Next quick spot is get off on Craig Ave. (Exit 48) & got towards Nellis AFB. Look to your left as you go. It's a little ways down from the I-15 & it's a 2 sided ditch w/ a nicely rounded tranny & round lips. Needs some cleaning, but it's pretty cool ! Didn't get to completely check it out. Just skated a small section of it near the entrance, but it looks as if it goes up the road (Vandenberg, I believe/think). It's next to a trucking firm. These were the only 2 I got to check out due to my tight racing schedule, but skated them & seemed to be cool spots w/ minimal hassle. Bring some cleaning tools (push broom, sweep broom, maybe a shovel) & remember the old motto: take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but urethane tracks. Go get em' boys & girls !;~)henry

Vancouver, B.C.
On 3/11/2002 R. wrote in from (156.40.nnn.nnn)

Just spent 10 days back home in Beautiful British Columbia. Let's just say my legs are tired.

B.C. is _the_ poop for skateboarders, no doubt about it. Huge hills, beautiful mountain highways, can't spit without hitting top-notch quality all *FREE* skateparks (except for one vert ramp)--I think there's like 8 or more in the Lower Mainland-- many alleyways and industrial nooks and crannies for the shorters--it's like the ultimate cross-training terrain. Plus, it's a beautiful, cool place with great food, good beer and cheap for americans what with our unfortunate dollar.

If you go, don't forget to visit White Rock, an affluent beach suburb where my mom currently resides. Beauty little skatepark, the streets are beautiful, smooth and wide right atop the ocean cliffs, and the drop down streets are hairy steep right to the ocean, maybe steeper even than that famously steep street in San Fran--enough maybe to freak even Mr. Coleman (probably not). Just make sure your slide skills are up to snuff--most end in a T-Stop on the main drag. North Vancouver also has an abundance of carving action, many streets basically plunked down in the middle of the coastal rainforest. Also check out South Vancouver, Queen E. Park around Main and 30th for downhill downtown, and Gaglardi way from SFU a bit further out. Plus, Vancouver also sports the Landyachtz factory and P.D.'s home of skull skates. Nuff Sed.

El Supremo skate spot---when it doesn't rain. And it didn't almost the entire time I was home. Although if it rains, you can always go snowboarding in the winter, or hiking, kayaking or indoor beverage lifting in the summer.

Sorry to be all publicist and whatnot. It was just a hell of fun 10 days, and I feel great--didn't even get injured except for a sore heel. My skating probably improved astronomically as well. Just thought I would share the stoke. Most of the locals are pretty nice folks, too, even at the hardcore China Creek in East Van. I'll stop typing now or I'll take up the whole page.

Clarkston MI
On 3/9/2002 Tom wrote in from (205.185.nnn.nnn)

For all those local detroit skaters out there, there is an extremely sick hill in clarkston. it is off michigawme, cant remember the name so here is directions. take sashabaw towards pine knob (DTE Energy Music Theatre) continue until you reach Stickney, make a right onto Stickney and continue till it ends. it ends at Michigawme, so when you get there make a left onto michigawme and at the first street make a right. it is a native american name, i just cant remeber it right now. there is 2 turns, a frontside and a back side, and it is extremely pitched. my friend estimate that we hit over 40mph on it, so enjoy.
any questions right me an email.

Scab's new spot...
On 3/9/2002 ur13 wrote in from (64.152.nnn.nnn)

Scabs: watch it if you ever do get to skate that. If that road is built on an old dump, things have been known to 'sink" under the surface causing potholes and speed bumps to appear in paved surfaces. You guys in florida don't get hard freezes or earthquakes (?) so it should be ok, but you never know. One night you may skate it and it is fine, next night you might skate it and a 6" road width sink might have happened! BAM!

I speak from experience....In central NY where I grew up , and I might ad has a TON of hills) there were two old land fills that I skated a bit as a kid outside of Syracuse (this was 1989 and 1990 when I knew zero about anything other than street skate decks)...anyway...we would skate these "hills" and I swear every day it would be a different road. By the next summer (after a hard northeast winter) it was unskatable and mostly un rideable...

So i would check into the age of the landfill, see how long that stuff has had to settle.

Here`s the back road I haven`t checked out yet on the west side of the dump. The dump is made of two hills and there is also another road on the west of the second hill but it`s like 3/4 away from the road so no picks at this time. I`ll have to walk over and do that.

Back Road SW side...

Hi Bill. Sorry I didn't get to reply to your e-mail. Been getting ready for a BMX race in Las Vegas this weekend. Had to break in a new bike (quite a switch from aluminum to chrome-moly). So you're looking for roads ? The only road run I can suggest is Mountain Dr. down in Montecito. You won't be able to set up cones, but you can get a decent run, granted the time of day is right. As far as setting up cones, the best suggestion I have is what I used to when I used to live down in L.A. for a while: Schoolyards. Most asphalt playgrounds have a slight slope that is perfect for slalom practice. You just have to push a little harder, but you'll get good practice @ pumping the hell out of the board. If you start doing the schoolyard thingy, let me know. Also, us old guys hit the S.B. skatepark EARLY on Sat. & Sun. morns (6:30-7:00 am). If you're down here, get in touch, I'm in the book. Just not this weekend since I'll be in Vegas. I'm bringing my board though to hit this little ditch off the side of I-15. Good luck /;~)henry

Lompoc, Grover City, Santa Maria

Skated the little Lompoc outdoor park. Very weak, too small and designed poorly. Drove by and checked out Santa Maria YMCA. Very beat because of the bikers. Didn't skate, kept going to Grover beach and skated the free park. Very fun, lots of good lines. Could be a blast on a long board. Met a guy who is willing to take me to a Pipe Grande. Very few peopleskating the parks. Not like So Cal at all. Still seeking a good road for some slalom practice. I know I'll find one if I keep looking. Any suggestions I would be very grateful.
