Henry...your name seems vaguely familiar. Were you in a punk rock band?

On another note, what was the name of the park in Ft. Lauderdale where the Turning Point ramp ended up? I rode that thing once, and it gave me little dizzy spells for days after...

Most of my riding was at Skateboard Safari in WPB or the 1/4 pipe in my driveway.

OH MY GOD SCABS! You just mentioned just about every place I used to skate. Skateboard USA & the little ditch right off of I-95 southside, Solid Surf even before the peanut pool was put in, the Pembroke halfpipe. The only spots you didn't mention was the Hypoluxo ditch in W. Palm Beach & Skateboard heaven, also in Ft. Lauderdale. Patio Mendino is also from the area as well. In Hialeah we had Concrete Surf (SUCKED !) & a similar situation as the Miami Turf just right outside Miami Lakes. As many in Hialeah, I was born in Cuba & lived there for a good part of my life. There's so much other stuff, but it would take VOLUMES to tell it all. Always good to hear from folks from my home turf /;~)henry

Hi Henry,
Born and raised in Miramar but currently reside in Hollywood Hills. I recently heard of that half pipe down that way in the late 70`s. Wish I would`ve known about it then. Do you remember Skateboard USA in Hollywood? How about the half-pipe in Pembroke Pines? Solid Skate if Ft Laud? Actually, did most of my skating in the early years (73-75) at place called Miami Turf. It was this twin condo building that was never finished due to therecession brought on by the gas shortage of that time. There was two sales trailers that had a pond on either side connected by a channel. we emptied out the pond which was about 5` deep and tore it up.We named it the "Fish Bowl". After that came the pool behind Mickey D`s on Miramar Parkway. It resided behind a house that went into foreclosure. This is where I cut my teeth on aireals. This place was appropriately named the "Rat Bowl" because of the numerous rats we would find in it. Sometimes we had to kill them to skate it....but that`s `nuther story...

Anyone interested in running cones on the weekends, just drop me an email. I just received 100 cones from Turner and also have 25 soccer cones. The place to do this is the dump at Griffen Rd and I-75 near Weston. I also have 10 boards so it is not necessary to have your own. You will have to have your own safety gear (pads and helmet). Give me a holler and we`ll have a blast

Ben from the Fort - Try the hill on Lemay, 5 lanes wide, just south of Harmony. You have to run it at night. Nice!

Mitch and Hizzout - There is a growing group of us that ride slalom around Denver area. We usually meet at Denver
skatepark on Saturdays early for some vert, then go run
cones at one of a couple locations. We need more riders.
There is a race in Breckinridge, June 8-9.
Drop me an email if you'd like to join us sometime...

I have been to that park with PSR, and I have got to say that it is a first rate skate! I would love it if we could get an event organized there sometime this summer. It offers a variety of options. You could even run a downhill event and a slalom course at the same time! The tar is new as of last fall and is in great shape.

The scene seems sparse in Mpls. If anybody is up for some SL riding or cruising, gimme a shout. The local snowboard alpine team will be hosting races each month.

I can help. If you are in the doghouse from losing a $5 trinket, run away now. It will get worse after you get married.

Del Mar/ La Costa are in Southern California, just north of San Deigo.

Oops! My Bad.
My email is hjulier@deerfield.edu.
The road I'm talkin about is behind the Mem building, library and science center at Deerfield Academy. DA is in historic Deerfield, about 100 historic and restored 17th century houses. Very quiet, very pretty. Old Deerfield is about 5 miles south of greenfield, Mass on "5 and 10" (the road that goes south out of Greenfield.) Drop me an email and we'll talk!

Lake Placid, NY

I was camping near Lake Placid last May and discovered that
Whiteface Mountain has a highway right to the top of the
mountain. About the last third or so is a toll route,
however the bottom section is a public roadway. Pavement
was older but was in reasonable shape by my assessment. It
is common for people to walk down the toll highway. If you
hiked up with your board, you might be able to cruise down
nearly 4000 vertical feet and at least 7 or 8 miles with
virtually no major flats. Has anyone seen this or attempted
to ride it?

Sounds awesome! If we can set a date and get some other slalomers to commit then I'll be there. I'll have to find some mode of transportation (I'm 17, don't have my licence yet) but if we plan a head then it'll be no problem. Drop me an email!

Henry J, I'll do you one better. How's this; New tar, road is a 2-lane which ends in a cul-de-sac; It's a National Park service road; It has a gate, which closes every day at 3 p.m.,so NO CARS after that; When it's open, here's hardly any cars, anyway; It has two parking areas (one big,one little) and pinic benches with a view of Stratton Mt.,and a (very) nearby lake; The gradient goes from mellow to crazy steep and back, just pick your mood or fear factor; One hill bottoms out by going back uphill gently-The other(steeper) side is either into the big lot,or around the cul-de-sac; It's not even two hours away from You (or JG,Tway,Terrence,Shaggy, etc.); The only guy besides me that snakes this routinely is CMC,so it's not cluttered with fools ( although Strattom Mt. School does some cross-training there, but girls in shorts on roller-skis I can handle- :} ) Gilmour has yet to visit, preferring to peel chewing gum off his wheels in Cambridge, but He Knows I find Sick Hills!

Slalom in Mass

There's a great road for slalom at my school here in Deerfield (Western Mass.) The asphalt's great and the road itself is a rolling downhill. If anyone in the New England area would like to get together and run some cones, please email me! I'm a beginner who's looking for others to ride with. If Deerfield is within your reach... let's slalom!

ICE & Evan,

I live in Mountain View, CA, and I'm a total newbie here.

As an alpine-snowboarder/carver (w/ hardboots & race board),
I wanted to get something fun/x-traning for the summer,
and just ordered a Fluid Stinger.
I'll start reading the "Riding Techniques" section on this site, etc, and try to get up to speed, quickly.
Hopefully I can meet up with you guys & others in the area for a few runs some time...?

Thanks,
- Hiroshi
