The July issue of Thrasher has a feature on skating in North Carolina that's got some great pictures of new school types doing their thing. What makes it interesting to me is that there's also a pic of the model of the concrete park I mentioned in my last post. It looks like the place will be pretty kick ass for longboarders. There's one clover-shaped bowl all by it self, then a "drop-in" with rails for the shortboarders that leads to an area with a bank and some vert surface. Going down there's a series of bowls and hips (that I can already see myself on) leading to another bowl at the bottom. This may not be as cool as Temecula, but I think it'll still be friggin' awesome. If you wanna see what I'm raving about, go sit in Barnes & Noble and look at the picture. I'm just sad that the place is yet to be built. It's amazing to me that none of the skateparks in a town with so many longboarders (we're all over at the university and the beach) caters to this large population.

Anybody out there who can give any good tips on places to ride in in the Seattle area?? It's quite nice and hilly where I live, but the pavement can best be compared to a cheese grater. I've just started with longboarding so it doesn't need to be (actually, probably shouldn't be) too steep.
Big thanx for any info!!

not sure how good it would be for a race, being in the city with traffic and all, but if you ride a longboard, check out mission hill.
a short, but smooth run, alleghany, is a dead end so you don't have to worry much about traffic.
take the green line out to any stop between brigham circle and heath, and the hill's on your left.

I live in Silver City, New Mexico, Gateway to the Gila. There are many runs on this mountain stretch of road but, I have only completed the signal peak run. averge speed is 25-35 mph its about a mile long with about 7 turns. This run is the only run that I have done without bailing. There are many more potential runs that are faster but therpretty gnarly. If I knew some people who like to go fast downhill i'm sure we could make some of the longer and faster runs this road has to offer. If anybody is in silver city, new mexico. look me up. Are we talking serious downhill here????? I know so, to all of ya come have a look at lausanne the best spot you can imagine. DOwnhills of 3-4 miles, wide and nice roads not too many people on the streets during the week, and all the bus are taking you back to the top. I am here for my studies and it is the best place I have ridden in my life. If you are planning a trip to this small country write to me it will be my pleasure to take you out to famous mountain road not too hard and it goes down for 15 miles non stop, and it is in the middle of the cows, good really good for sundays afternoon... see ya

Johnny,
If hills are scarce in your neck of the woods, seek out some parking structures. If you're lucky you'll find one with an elevator (and no security guards)...

Does anyone know of any really good spots in or around Wilmington, NC? None of the three parks are any good for longboards (hopefully the concrete park will be better if it's ever built). The university is nice because they never hassle you for skating, but there aren't any runs even a quarter of a mile long. I've tried downtown at night and while the cops have never bothered me after 12, you can't start any further up than Third because you'll get killed crossing it. The best place I've been is the Municipal Golf Course after dark or before even the golfers get out there. You can't see anything, so you need to know where the curves are and I wouldn't go out there alone, because who knows who could be out there in the dark; or if you managed to somehow fall and not hit the grass on either side and hit your head or something, nobody'd know until they came out to hit little balls in the morning. All in all, the golf courses are the best place I've found since I started longboarding a few months ago. If you know of any better places in the area, please post them.

To jaks: Do you know of any spots in southern NH? If so where? I heard that there is an abandoned waterpark up there somewhere that could be perfect for skating. Any idea where this is. How far of a drive is it from Boston? What is the name of the town, street etc.. Thanks for your help.

Hey Guys, I know this is a primarily "down hill" skating site, but what about those who are skating alternative terrain? I've been into longboarding drainage ditch half pipes lately. Here are a few spots that I know of:
5fwy and the La Mirada Drive In Theater - La Mirada Mangular and Skyline Dr - Corona
Any SoCal locals know of more???? Post the SoCal alternative skate sites!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a rider from the New Hamshire Lakes Region. I've only been riding a couple of months but have found what seem to be some killer runs. The back roads around here are really steep. Me and my friends have found some runs that are almost 2 miles long with almost no traffic.
