burry hill in lykens pennsylvania
On 12/27/1999 matt wrote in from (199.224.nnn.nnn)

i would give this hill a 9.0 only because it is fast and extremely steep
but the bad part about it is that you go into a cross section of the road at
a fairly high speed but all and all it is great to bomb

Christmas Weekend
On 12/27/1999 Newbie Boarder wrote in from (4.18.nnn.nnn)

Wow! What a great weekend. Downtown Denver was practically dead! I had the streets and hills all to myself! Not a car or COP in site! 16th street mall was all mine for the taking!

Also on x-mas eve during the day, I headed up towards estes park, cutting through Boulder. I finally slapped on my helmet and went for some of the hills there. It was sick...too bad none of my friends are into the longboarding scene...I had to be in total bliss by myself...and then share it with the only people I'd know who would appreciate it...the good folks who participate on this site.

For those who are or will be lucky to come in France, email
me, especially if you're coming in the south of france, i know a bunch
of good places with wild roads ten miles long and a lot of hairpins.
My prefered one is the "col de Vence" but another of my prefered
ones is my secret spot, i'd like to share with friends...
Just a few details about it : 10 miles long / 10 to 12% of average declivity
and 26 Hairpins !
You're welcome my friends...

Just hit this fresh asphalt last night, with my brother driving my car in back to aid in visability, give speed reports and add lighting not to mention a quick, warm ride to the top. This hill probabely is about a mile long with some flats but the last three hundred yards haul ass, 38mph,with estimated potential possibly just past 45mph. Fast enough to possibly wobble my randles,I say possibly because I got two twitches and carved into the third real hard dropping below wobble speed and that was at the bottom, great hill,if your in the area look it up its not sacred.

Tucson, Arizona
On 12/23/1999 Bubba wrote in from (166.77.nnn.nnn)

If you're travelling through Tucson or if you're stuck there (sorry) check out the road down Mt. Lemmon on full moon night. You can start almost at the top, or if you think you're really crazy, you can go all the way up but you might not come all the way down. Then there's about 25 miles of fast and fun downhilling. When the road widens halfway down, tuck for a bomb the rest of the way. Watch out for the hicks in old pickup trucks with guns who think it's funny to point their laser sight on those crazy skateboard guys (true story) and listen for the rattlesnakes on the side of the road. Just make sure you don't hit any.

moon
On 12/20/1999 jonnieo wrote in from (216.224.nnn.nnn)

I've noticed that the moon has been especially bright on my midnight runs lately. I just read something in the paper that said that on Dec 22, the moon and sun are supposed to be in some sort of alignment that will make it as bright as daylight at night. Perfect time for skating... not many cars on the road, though I've notices that there are quite a few old people driving around at 2mph looking at all the christmas lights... very annoying.

San Diego
On 12/20/1999 Chris wrote in from (167.208.nnn.nnn)

Omar,

I'm in San Diego. There are some pretty good hills in Chula Vista, east of 805. There's a pretty good size housing development that has new roads, closed to traffic. I've only been on Sundays, which seems like the time it would be least likely to be a bust. I haven't been down there in about 4 or 5 months, but even if the streets that were closed then are open, there are probably others just waiting.

I know of a fairly small handful of people who take longboarding serious. We're planning to hit Temecula Skatepark for the evening session on Wednesday. It's a bit of a drive, but I've always found it was worth it. E-mail me if you're up for Temecula or want to try to find those hills in CV. Later,

Chris

Boston skatepark advise
On 12/16/1999 Chris wrote in from (167.208.nnn.nnn)

There are a couple of good sources for getting a skatepark built. Try

http://www.suburbanrails.com/plnguide.html

and

http://www.skateboard.com/iasc

to start with. I'm a big fan of concrete parks. Ramps are probably cheaper and easier to build, but the do eventually wear out, and have to be rebuilt. With a concrete park, it's cheaper to maintain it than it is to tear it down, so they'll be there for lots of years of good skating. Good luck,

Chris

Boston Skatepark...maybe.
On 12/15/1999 Matt wrote in from (207.252.nnn.nnn)

Hey folks I need some info. I found out that my city is planning to build a new skatepark. They just built a real shitty rollerblade type park.
You know all wood miniramps and rails etc.. Not condusive to longboard carving. Anyway I was going to petition the city to build a concret park.
Hopefully with a bowl and snake run to appease the longboarders (not many of us). I need help in arguing my case. How expensive is a concrete park?
Why is it better? Thanks for all your info. If you are in boston and this idea sounds good then leave a message here and I will email you.

Santa Cruz Skatepark...
On 12/14/1999 eggman wrote in from (156.39.nnn.nnn)

Hey!
I just checked out the new Santa Cruz Skatepark.. At least I think it is the Santa Cruz skatepark.. I thought it was supposed to be at Nearly Lagoon... The one I saw is off of Capitola and Jose. They were just pouring the transitions yesterday. It looks ok. Kind of like Salinis, which is kind of like West Palm Springs. Anyway, a big squarish bowl with some street stuff. (pyramids and such) It is a little taller than Derby, but no snake run. One of the guys at Bills Wheels said it will be ready in "two weeks". Looks good to me... Ok, just a little FYI...

Cory,

I'm in Denver and there really isn't much at least in Lower Downtown. This isn't really the ideal longobard time of year in Denver either.

Let me know if you get any responses for Denver Riding.

Derby Park (Santa Cruz, CA)
On 12/7/1999 steve c wrote in from (209.111.nnn.nnn)

Derby Park has been around for almost two decades now. It's a meandering snake or carving run going into a huge mellow bowl.
A lot of good skaters go here and actually tear the place up, finding the right lines to do some amazing tricks.
If you only longboard, your choice of board would be better with something around 35-40 inches long with a kicktail. And wheels should be
medium size (60-66mm) and quite hard.

People from all over the world come here and it can get really crowded, especially when the 'Derby-Q' in on.
You may have seen video from past years on some older vids. It's a blast to just go there and do the thang just before dark
when all the 'kids' have gone home for dinner.

try it.

Anywhere on Oahu
On 12/4/1999 Mike 5-0 wrote in from (128.174.nnn.nnn)

I am coming back to Oahu after being on the mainland for college, I would bomb hills before I left, but I ate some mean shit on Tantalus before I left. I learned to enjoy riding flatland and ditches in college, so I was wondering if anyone knew where there were any sick ditches. Ones with sweet pavement, and good slopes.

Also for anybody there are some phat hills in hahaione valley(Hawaii Kai). Dos kine with smooooth rides and enough room to carve all over the road. Locals are cool they will sit and watch all night, and cops in Hawaii don't care about skateboarding in residentuals. Minor traffic at night, the drivers really hate it when you go faster then thier cars.

Yeah Street names would be great. I know Arlington but the pavement sucks. Pebble in Tar stuff. Tried it and it was real sketchy. Ever try to carve on exposed tar?
Anyway some directions if you could. You don't need to be that detailed, just let me know the general area. i am looking for longer runs. I may hit it this weekend if I can. Depending on the temp..

Thanks for your help.

mass
On 12/2/1999 travis wrote in from (63.25.nnn.nnn)

matt, Arlington has some huge scary hills. Most of them are really steep and have horrible out runs, right into mass ave. Most of them arent doable. talking 50 to 6o mph hills. Most all are located off of pleasent st, which is a main drag that connects belmont and arlington. There's a ridge off of pleasent that runs for bout 2 miles. Side steets on the left and right are where the hills are. Just look around and youll find plenty to bomb.
If you follow pleasent st into winchester(town borders arlington) you'll find hills near the golf course. I found a 1 1/2 mile run up there but the pavement is rather course and even with sticky wheels my board skidded out and i ate poo my first run. Further up in winchester there's a lot of good hills to. found about 4 good runs. fairly long and curvy. i can get you street names if you want...later
