Just got back from our Wednesday night Vans session. It was great there were less than a dozen people there and they were all little roller blade kids playing in the mini street course. Had the whole park to ourselves.

This is insane. 60deg. slope;1.1 kilometers. Find it because it's illegal for the government to create a
hill this steep. Who the f made it?

Sarah,

Your in Beltsville?!?! Thats so cool. I've been in San Diego for 12+ years now but am from Fairfax VA. I've been wondering how the Longskate scene is back home. Last time I was back there I took my Gravity Minicarve and people looked at me like I was from Outer Space. I loved it!!!!
My brother & his family live in Silver Spring. I promised my nephew that next time I came back we'd hit all the spots.
Maybe you can help us with that.

Late
Dave

Research Road, Beltsville, Maryland

This road is a long hill with some sort of steep portions and slight curves. It has some patches on the road surface that are easily avoided. It has a long flat and then a slight uphill at the end-good if you're like me and you can't slide. Oh, and the best part-this road closes every day at 6pm and is closed all weekend and on holidays. So you have to walk the hill, but oh well. I like it.

gravity Bikes?

SOmeone below me was talking about racing gravity bikes around? whats a gravity bike? Hook me up with some info.
To make this relivint on this board....
Napa CAlifornia, the one and only grave yard. Its cool, about the size of half a car lane, but its sick. Its fast and smooth, and if you cant control your speed, and you dont want to slide or what ever to stop yourself, you can always run into the grace.
That was a huge run on sentince.

Near Mt. Snow,Vt.
On 6/2/2000 Pre-School Rider wrote in from (209.198.nnn.nnn)

Literally across the street from Haystack/Mt. Snow is an excellent set of roads, mostly in the 300 Ft.size over a given mile.Lots of Condos, with seasonal dwellers,so there are few uncontrolled pets,or angry locals to deal with. The tar is good, although going on three years old or so.These are all between Rt.100 and the ski hills proper(to your left of Rt.100 if heading North). But that's not all...Go Right off Rt.100 towards the town of Dover,and...Wow,650Ft. vertical over 2-1/4 Miles of recent, smooth two laned tarmac. There's some traffic to contend with at peak hours, but it's not bad if you time it right.I just cruise turns all the way,so My speed has been only in the high twenties here, but it has potential for forty-plus runs.I'll Luge it during the next Full Moon and see what it clocks out to.

Homemaid forgot to mention that you MUST be able to FOOT DRAG. yes the hill is fun and very technical. it is about 25 - 40 standup and a good length, oh i almost forgot to mention that this road is anti-smooth, your stickiest 65 - 76mm wheel will be needed and if you go you will need full pads/leathers and a good helmet.

pace car
On 5/27/2000 hugh r wrote in from (205.216.nnn.nnn)

Pace Car:
Herbn is absolutly correct about the car being BEHIND you when skating. His primary function is to protect your rear and to give you the peace of mind knowing that NO ONE is going to come up on you.

There are times when the pace car may need to block a cross street before he takes his position behind you.

I would suggest that only the most trusted of people be driving your pace car. Actually the only one I trust is my brother. When he is behind me, I know that even if he had to force some soccer mom off the road to protect me, he would. The person pacing you really has your life in their hands. A hard fall might really mess you up, but with the proper equipment you probably won't die. Tangle with a car and your survival odds drop.

So pick your driver carefully... If you wouldn't trust him with your credit card... don't trust him with your life... HR

This ones on my to do list, smooth pavement,a few turns, steep especially at the bottom ,somewhat busy though. The cross street at the bottom is not really busy, though it only takes one car to wreck your day,or at least make it "interesting", still a pace car is advised. On the subject of pace cars i've read recently(and in the past also)people describing being behind the pace car,THE CAR FOLLOWS,ALWAYS!a car with your friends at the wheel should never be dangerous behind you, even a crash or a hardstopping coleman, can easily be matched by automotive brakes, but if another car pulls infront of your pace car and they gotta slam the brakes, you are quite possibly done for.

Next to Sibbald
On 5/17/2000 Herbn wrote in from (207.198.nnn.nnn)

Sibbald is a 45 mph, mostly straight hill thats less than three miles from my shop and on the way to Taco Bell. Yesterday a.m. I skated it for like an hour and a half, on reaching the top I turned to see a cop car off in the distance coming up the hill, couldn't really sit there and wait for him to pass with my big giant skateboard. So I skate down the main street at the top and turn down the very next street, well it doesn't go straight down but has steep smooth driveways and a bunch of turns,Perfect for my Stroker board but just a chill hill on my Sector Concave,it comes out right at the bottom of Sibbald,I took my Stroker board there last night and it was definitely an amazing reflex sharpening ride,er ,4 rides.

Hamm,

What you may be thinking about is that the EDI race a few weeks ago was originally supposed to be in Poway, but they moved it to Campo. I'm in San Diego, and if you know of any good places in Poway, let me know. We should go hit them sometime.

Later,

Chris

tubes? where's the tubes?
On 5/15/2000 Glen wrote in from (216.102.nnn.nnn)

I haven't skated a tube since skating Pipeline skatepark in '80. Steve's Southbay Skatepark also had a tube but it was about 10' bigger in diameter than Upland's and it made it hard to gyrate enough on a 30" deck.
Any ideas of other pipes? I know where the all time classic Pipeline ( not the skatepark ) is, but I hear it's a total bust these days.
