Blah,
There's an sweet one alongside Otay Lakes Rd in front of a little strip mall right off the freeway. The smoothest concrete I've seen in a ditch and has curved transitions.
That whole Eastlake area(east Chula Vista)is a gem just waiting to be skated. The streets are wide, smooth and freshly paved. I need to find some time to scope out some hills/ditches down there.
I'm on a mission to find some more good ditches, if you see any let me know.

Go to the Vans Milpitas park while you're there. I was talking with a friend who skated on the pre-opening cerimony day and said it was the best of the Vans parks, the Combi pool excluded. Take the Budro!!!

okay, heres the deal. if you live in florida, anywhere near jacksonville, find any way possible to get yourself hooked up with this park. i heard it was pretty good, but i wanted to see what all the fuss was about. i saw. a REAL pool, not some vans park pook with a mini-ramp drop in in the shallow end. a good around the world line (a forever) if you can find it and dial it in. two snakeruns, one big and one small. a mellow bowl with moguls known as the "freestyle" area. and if you are feeling especially tech, feel free to check out the street section. this park has it all, but dont take my word for it. find out for yourself.

Hi everyone,
I am going to San Fransico for a conference in September, and I'd like some suggestions regarding where to ride while I'm there. I will not have a lot of time to travel, but I'd like to hit a nice concrete park or 2 while I'm there...
Any longboardable parks around that area?

Wow! First run on this one, huge, a whole new catagory for me,still steeply eastern style, smooth, twisty,a few turns, one really long(125deg.)with a 20mph sign,a little busy , for my tastes ,but the posted speed limit is thirty. At the end,i had three cars behind me,two of the drivers gave me thumbs up as they passed,or was it some other finger:) Turn north at the Nanuet Mall and keep going, you can't miss it.

Was cruising over to the indoor gun range today when I stopped to take a closer look at the ditch at the intersection of Sea World Dr & Morena Blvd. One quick peek and I grabbed my ditch/bank board that always in my truck and I was down there. The flats were kinda rough and there was lots of broken glass, but this is a very skatable ditch. There were already wheel tracks down there, so I'm obviously not the only one with this thought. Take a broom and use soft wheels. Best park=no fence, its right there for the taking.
If anybody wants to put together a ditch jam, I can get some plywood to cover the flats and make it faster/smoother.

I've sent this info once before and I never saw it posted on this site, so here it goes again:
I've lived in Utah since 1977; before that I grew up in Jax. Florida and surfed the Jax beaches and skated at KONA and moved to Utah in 1977. Northern Utah is not known for skateboarding or alcohol consumption. I started skateboarding in 1975 and I'm now 41 years old. I took time off to get married and have kids and now I'm back. I figure that I've got about 7 to 9 more years left on my knees that I can give to skating. There is a skatepark in Brigham City (about 50 minutes north of Salt Lake City) that is mellow and is a small reminder of KONA years ago. It is not KONA scale but is workable (read: transfers, forevers).
I ride a Powell HotRod with Indy 215's and 90A Bombers; I'm old school and can't toeflip worth crap. But, I can ride for about 2 to 3 hours at this park and go home worked out and not worried about Myocardial Infarctions.
It has a capsule bowl that can be carved with a longboard if it is hit right. There are a number of lines that can be made through the park including going over a funbox and hitting a mellow bowl which allows for Ty (Page) slides, lip slides, Berts and BertReverts. Carving the whole park can be done with the help of a sidewalk that dumps into the park from the parking lot above it.
If you ever make it up here stop off and spend a few hours laying down some fine lines. Best in the fall and early spring.

I've been here a few months and now that I'm all moved in I'm looking for some great downhill carvings spots. Lots of longboarders but most are just flatland promenade and boardwalk cruisers. Local shops aren't helpful Can someone point me to the hills? Thanks! Ryan

Well it was a good spot but I have avoided it because they found a dead bird infected with the West Nile virus there which is transmitted by mosquitos. I would go with some mosquito repelant on but I would just sweat it off. Its been a boring summer to say the least.

Any other big island bombers out there? Hilo town side? (I'm up in Fern Forest). Heck, even Kona side - I'm up for the drive. Also, anybody over in Maui? Anyone ridden the big drainage ditch above Lahaina (somewhere around the Sugar Cane Train station as I recall...)

roads include "4 mile hill" and another one which has a sign posted for trucks "3 mile hill with 8% downgrade" these are major roads unfortuantly. but driving on them kept my eyes wide open. Andy: i also drove through michigan on this trip. i have to tell you, i didn't see a single bump that i would give the term "hill" to. however, if you were going to shortboard, grand rapids on a sunday is practically empty, with tons of skateable spots.

Dump Road in SJC

Burns,
First, guys lie about the size of waves, fish, trouser trout and how fast they go on skateboards. Many runs FEEL like they are going over 50, when it is more likely in the high 30's or low 40's. If they are passing cars, they are just plain stupid. You should not be bombing any hill where traffic is a consideration. If you are on a hill and need to bail out, you better have sliding gloves. They provide one the only ways to avoid an impact by sliding the board out in front while sitting back on your hands. Most other safety gear only helps when you are out of control and crash and burn. Yesterday a number of speedboarders and I were bombing the dump road in San Juan Capistrano and were hiting about 55mph. This is in full tight leathers, floating axle Randal trucks, quality bearings, Cherry Bomb wheels, low CG decks and most importantly a very aerodynamic helmet and tight tuck. This is a moderately fast hill and when you consider all that it takes to hit 55mph, how much do you really believe it when people say they hit 50 on their carving board in flip flops and bathing suit standing up? This road is empty on Sundays because the dump is closed and gives you a good idea of what 50mph+ is really like. Gary (world speed record) Hardwick and I were side by side then split off to go around another rider when SLAM, Gary went down superman style. He had a slight shoulder injury as a result but would have been a scab without all the proper gear. Although there were only about four little bumps on the whole hill, Gary just happened to hit one right when he angled out of the draft to make a pass. It happens. With regard to speed wobbles, get Randal trucks (35 degree kingpin for stability), have a low CG deck, a long wheelbase, keep your feet and weight toward the front truck, and don't over-react or stiffen when afraid, just absorb the bumps and slowly make adjustments.

I'm sure this isn't the page for this question but I have to know.
Hey herbn, how do you guys handle constant speeds of 40 to 50 mph? I don't get how you guys do it without getting wobbles or just plain freaked out. I've been wanting to get more into faster bombing, but I can't get past the thought of bailing out at such a speed. It never ceases to amaze me to hear guys talking matter of factly about going faster than cars, how do you do it?

Report on Tokyo

Well I was busy during my stay, but I found time to skate. I think Tokyo might be the best city in the world for skating. The only problem is you have to do it between 2-7 AM. It's to hot and crowded other times. I think it would also be good advice to go into the residential neighborhoods, where it's quiet enough to hear oncoming vehicles. There are many blind intersections and turns. They have the smoothest pavement and the sidewalks are asphalt. The police that I ran across completely ignored me, so I don't think it's a problem. The runs are usually tight so a real long board might be a problem. I took my Freeride Ike 30" , but wished I would have brought the 38. I'd like to move there!
