does anybody in the san luis obispo area, specifically cal poly, want to hit some hills and show me some good runs? i haven't had the motivation to go out and skate by myself, and i am pissed because of all the sweet hills around here!!

In addition to the people that Chris C mentioned, there's Solid State Glen (different Glen from the one listed below), Hamm, Blah, me, and others who aren't such big webheads. There are lots of spots. Some of the best sessions are at the OC Dump Road, lots of people from average carvers to top-ranked speedboarders. It's about an hour drive but always worth the trip. When you're a little closer to your move, either e-mail me or post again. You'll be set up with all the skating you can handle. Later,

Chris

Downhill? Do names like Biker Sherlock, Dane van Bommel, Todd Lehr, John Dread, Caveman, Rick Kludy and others sound familiar? The Dregs team is San Diego based (Rick is TVS). If you surf, there are a ton of good spots from North County down into Mexico. I went to SDSU from '79 - '83 and miss living down there. You shouldn't have a problem finding hills and contacts. Even the bike path from Pacific Beach to South Mission Beach can be a fun trek. You WILL have fun.

San Diego is the bomb for skateboarding. The best parks, the most parks, tons of hills, good surf, etc.
I wish I was moving there. Call Gravity Skateboards, they'll clue you in to the good spots.

moving to san diego... any good spots?
On 9/26/2000 tragus666@aol.com wrote in from (205.188.nnn.nnn)

hey is there a big longboard faction in san diego? I currently live on the ecoast and am moving in about 6 months and wanted to know where the good spots are. I skate downhill and parks (love concrete-- carving is the best) and have seen that there are alot of good parks, but wonder if sd is good for downhilling. Mind you i don't have a map with topography, so. Anyway I would appreciate email for future contacts.

there's nothing more satisfying than carving by moonlight.

after drinking beer all night after work, and then talking to my ex-wife and sort of reliving old memories, the most appropriate thing to do was grab my dusty ol' longboard and carve the semi-gentle slopes of the road that leads to my house.
i could think of nothing more than riding waves, but unfortunately the surf along the northern california shores is small and inconsistent. since i'm living about an hour or so further inland, the only thing on my mind at this point was carving, carving, carving!
i grabbed the board and walked to the edge of my road, said a quick prayer for my own safely, and then glided along the narrow alley-like road back down to my house. the prayer was for that i wouldn't hit an extra large rock on my way down.
sure, speeds were only topping out at about 15 mph, but it was enough to get my stoked as i carved up side streets, then back to the main road and down to an area where i could do full roundhouse carves (only other longboarders can know the feeling).
after each ride, i'd walk back to the junction and start my journey back down the gentle slope toward my house, getting more of a feeling for the road, the bumps and the gradual increase in speed.
after probably half an hour's worth of gliding, carving, then walking back for more, i decided that it was probably time to head home and drink a few more beers.
now as i am sitting in front of this dusty ol' computer, i'm thinking of how nice it will be to ride the eastern edge of my street, where the road is a lot steeper. i've got the run all mapped out and my only fear is the sharp corner that lay at the base of the hill. a nice long and power carve will get me through that section, but if i can't hold on, a fence and pain will be my introduction to the world of super power carves.

am i scared? not in the least. more beers? definitely. next weekend? possibility.

only a longboarder knows the feeling....

A bus ride to the top of North Van. and its carven for 20 miles ! , Steeep, medium and flat, whats your preference? a bus transfer is good for 2 hours so a 100 miles is possible, all for the low low price of $1.75 Cdn. You won't be disappointed :)

Gibralter: 20 minute powercarve special, best at night with a car following

Painted caves road: narrowwer and steeper than gibralter, very fun to power slide. I took a set of kyptonics to the core in one afternoon.

Help me find more
