However, I don't think it has hills to carve. I've always thought about having downhill runs going on either side of skateparks. It would be so cool if when a city built a skatepark they also built a sick asphalt hill that was wide with dips and stuff and dedicated it to downhillers. THATS's a skatepark!!

Sounds like you're describing Kona to me, and it's been around longer than any other park in America if I remeber correctly. Never been there, but I'd love to check it out.

i'm wondering what a skatepark designed for longboards would be like, and how big it would need to be. but it would be badass to have a bunch of oversized bowls, some apropriate ramps, and a long strech of varying grade concret hills to carve up with no fear of cars. also the ability to do it all in the day instead of late night or getting run over. oh well, it'll never fly.

First, there's this killer run in Tierrasanta which consits of about only a quarter mile two lane road with a speed limit of 35 miles per hour. The thing is, it has enough room for about 5 lanes. It has degrees of difficulty depending on where you start since it's really a constant slope and once you pick up enough speed, there's no such thing as braking for about halfway down, it has a nice smooth turn to the left that you can just "feel". I don't know the directions, but I'll find out... I can get there if I drive.
Second, there's a pretty tame, but very smooth and relaxing ride down Mission Blvd. in Pacific Beach. You need to start at about Law St. or Tourmaline and end at Garnett. The first run, you can conquer at any time of the day, but the Mission Run, you need to do pretty late in the evening for obvious reasons if you're familiar with the area. The great thing about this is (If you're comfortable with your skills and carving with cars on the road), is that if you ride on the right side of the street w/traffic, you can blow through all the stop signs while the cars are obligated to obey them. If done with the right timing, you can carve this run in the middle of the busy ass day, and not have to worry about "conservation of momentum" when comparing the inelastic collision between you and that two ton truck.

A 3.5 mile ride which is on a constant slope with no turns. Basically it is like a blue run on a mountain. Anyway, make sure that when you ride this run you go late at night, because during the day their are too many cars. I would suggest about 3 a.m. Start up at the firestation and go all the way down to Foothill for the best ride.

Great hills near Roanoke with minimal traffic on weekdays. Peaks of Otter is INSANE! Very long and tricky. Watch out for Park Rangers.

I must confess, I am a new head in the skating world. My younger years of "tom-boy" skating including many broken bones and great times with the boys...so now as I enter into the skating world again, I am looking to find a cool person to take me to some cool places. Mostly my skating as of late has been in vacant silicon valley parking lots...so I am eager to meet new people and skate around.

I have asked this a number of times but I really need some new riding spots in the Boston or Eastern Mass area. I am willing to travel 45-60 minutes for a good spot. Let me know if anyone knows of any spots. I know the Gravity Games were in Providence, does anyone skate there with a regularity? Any info would be good.

Looking for a good smooth slightly inclined road with little traffic for carving and speed. Also looking for some rollers. If you live where I do, you know these kind of places are hard to find so if you have any suggestions, I'm open to them... thanks

Went to bethpage park last weekend. Some good, smooth hills along the bike path. Go on golf course for some more decent, but slightly rocky and sandy hills. On the way there went down some side streets which were probably better than the park. One side street was super steep and had good amount of flat road after to slow down before intersection. Overall a good area to go.

Hey all,
I'm pretty new to skating in generall, though I have a fair amount of snowboarding experience. I'm looking for people interested in flatland cruising, slalom, and basic hill carving. Very excited to learn, but I'm the only guy I know who skates, so its kind of hard to figure out what the hell i'm doing all the time. If your interested in helping a slow tag along become a riding partner, let me know.
On a seperate issue, if either you or anyone you know is a snowboard carver, either softies or harbooter, i'm starting an email correspondance list for Portland/OR locals as a way of getting people together to ride and carpool. In 5 days or so we have about 7 members. If your interested, check out www.bomberonline.com under a thread in the Carving Community called "The List".
If you or any one you know would be interested, send a note to ORCARVE@reed.edu.
Thanks a bunch, E

In a posting on 3/6/00 , "James" reviewed Fremont skatepark, and wrote:
"There are better places around here to ride in business parks."
That's what I'm looking for: good downhill skateboarding sites around the East/South SF bay area, particularly parking lots or garages. I used to do some downhill boarding when I was a kid, and I'm trying to get back into it during my middle age. I would like to get my 11-year-old son into it. I prefer parking lots or garages instead of roads because they're more free and wide-open with little threat from traffic.
It occurs to me that in Silicon Valley there are many computer/manufacturing businesses who's parking lots are empty on weekends. The challenge would be to find a parking lot/garage that has the right slope and a smooth surface, without too many of those bored combative security guys. It would be nice to find a good parking garage with an elevator ride, where you don't get hassled by security forces too often. I heard a rumor there's one such garage in Stanford University.
Do you know any places like I'm describing? Or, can you recommend some quiet residential roads around here with good slopes for novice downhill skateboarding?
With the mental image of carving smooth asphalt turns on a blue-sky Sunday afternoon,
From Dan in Palo Alto, CA

MAXinMaine, The hill I'm talking about begins as Yew street at Lakeway and ends up as Woburn at Alabama. You'll know it if it has a cemetary most of the way on the right. I'm not sure what the traffic is like during the day, but it's pretty vacant at night. Drop me a line if you plan to hit it any time soon (rain permitting). I'd like to bomb it with someone.

Bellingham...I fly in & out on way to & from ships. What's the street name so I can check it out. Most of my NW time is at anchor in Port Angeles. This place goes from sea level to 6000 feet in a few miles & has light traffic. Only draw-back ios rough pavement. I live in South Portland, Maine. The hills here link up beautifully. Portland IS a hill & the Parks Dept. built a nice park for my practice pleasure. MAXinMaine

Blah, I have'nt actually seen it myself yet, but its under/beside the bridge on the Coronado side. How much it cost is an unknown, as is the opening date. The park is basically finished and is an all concrete deal. But there's a few negative rumours going around its status and no one I've been able to talk to can give a real opening date.
Let me know if you hear anything else Dave

Traffic on Claremont's alright at night only. Like I said though, I haven't been there in years so things may have changed. The low traffic, however, was the reason I found it to be the ideal hill in NYC.
