Jeff O,

Check out Sesnon for a very mild slope... Porter Valley Drive for an excellent carving run (no run out). Also Wilbur is a fast run (50-60 mph easy) with a decent run out near the golf course (faster than it looks, start a little down from the top)... HR

There's a beautiful little run right next to the back door to Grossmont College on Lake Murray Blvd. I was thinking about riding this nice hill the other day, but noticed that while I was driving down it, there were a number of questionable cracks in the road... Well, no longer. They just began re-paving it today! Should be nice when they're finished. I'm going to hit it up at about 12:30 in the morning after they're done with it. I'll tell you how it is.

GMR warning
On 12/9/2000 DT wrote in from (64.156.nnn.nnn)

This hill is VERY DANGEROUS, there is only a handful of PRO riders that can ride this hill in their own lane, most of them must cross into both lanes. there is a lot of traffic and during the week the forestry dept uses the road. They drive 10-wheelers up it, and they take up BOTH LANES when going through the hairpins and other sharp turns! If you were to be going into one of these turns at the same time you would have only 2 options. Hit the truck and likely DIE, or go off the road. If you choose the second choice be aware of the little wooden boxes in some of the ditches of the road, the opening is large enough for a rider to go into, and they lead to a large drain. Several years ago a street luger (Zac B)went into one of these and suffered a dislocated collar bone,4 broken ribs, a collapsed lung,a broken ankle, wrist, and hand, a ball broken off of his femur, and he lacerated his throat. If Darren Lott had not been carying a first aid kit on his luge, Zac would have bled to death on the hill. and just because he's on a luge doesnt mean a standup rider couldnt have the same happen. many of the turns have a sharp drop off, and yes riders have gone off them, but none off the big ones, if someone were to go off one of the upper ones, a helicopter would be required to get them out, ....if they're still alive. Also gang members have been known to go up there to drink. There have been a handful of cases where they threw beer bottles at riders as they go by, and in my case they laid rocks the size of softballs and bigger through out the road and in the hairpins! This road is decieving, its not all that steep (overall) but your speed builds up quick and if you dont know when and where to brake, you will wind up in serious trouble VERY FAST. and its not the type of road you want to carve. Even though its possible to, you would have to repeadily cross into the oncoming traffics lane, and with the high amount of blind corners and traffic, it would not be very wise! The road is around 7 miles long with in excess of 120 turns, the last four 4 miles are the most technical, so if you start from the top, you better be able to keep your muscles fresh for the bottom. Chris Chaput has told us that there will be a sting operation being put on by the police (and yes its happened in the past)due to the high amount of riders riding outside of their ability on this recently paved road;and if your riding while they're there, you will loose your board and be fined a heavy ticket. I 'm not typing this to try and scare anyone, but if someone were to go out there, they should know as much about this hill as they can! It is a very fun and rewarding hill and brings a smile to my face everytime i hear its name. so please use common sense and remember, Pride comes before the fall.

I just discovered a nice-paved cruiser about 2 miles long here in CO. So i'm cruising along at the bottom of the first drop and I come to a cattle guard..I thought the run was over..but wait..there are acctually smooth-paved turn offs around the cattle guards...but with gates. So we drive the length of this run, open all the gates and just dip around them.

hey adam, i'm from rockville centre. i'm home for a little bit before i head overseas. i haven't done much skating on long island. i started up over in san fran when i was visiting my buddy in september. i've skated a little bit out in cutchogue but the roads were pretty narrow, fast, runs were kind of short. i've heard mixed reviews about bethpage state park. i've heard the roads outside the park are better. let me know some good places i can go if i get any time off work

Home Town

I just realized I live in a super sweet longboard town, Ft Collins Co. There is a seve mile long reservoir right outside of town, right outside. It has four damns that are built between mountains, so each damn has two sick runs on each side plus the 3 mile plus cruiser connecting the damns...phatalicious!!!

The Poudre Canyon is sick too. Its just north and runs all the way up to the continental divide..it is the site for the race that I am trying to plan. I would love some tips on event planning..maybe some of you folk would like to race in the Rockies.

LI and Miami, Coral gables Area
On 11/29/2000 Adam wrote in from (129.171.nnn.nnn)

Florida has noooooooo hills. Pleas help me find some. The Miami/Coral Gables area has like tow hills. The key Biscayne Causeway, a huge hill, but no room for carving, and watch out for bikers and fisherman. The other places I like to go are Parking Garages. Especially the Sunset Shops parking Garage. It has EIGHT floors and ELEVATORS!! It is a pretty sick place, great for deep carves and some nice soul riding. If you stick to the top 6 floors you can avoid traffic too, Bets to go around 2-5 in the aftrenoon. Watch out for mall security though.

LI also has some good places. The North Shore of suffolk is Great. the huntignton area has a lot of hills, but watch for traffic. I live right next to the Bethpage stat Park. Th hills used to be huge, bu the repaved them ad flattened a few of them out about years ago. It still is alright. Hills around teh state park are pretty decent too. Anyway living in eitehr of these areas please email me. I am looking for someone to skate with

Skatercross's big ol' snake run.

Van's Orange halfpipe.
