Thanks Snake! The wedge nose we make is about 10 degrees. The total angle with the DH base is 45...close to the 50 degree RII. The performance should be very similar. I love the extra angle for high-speed carving, but it seems a bit much for racing lines and speeds. Europe is out for me this year..

paul..I use various stock Randal bushings on my speedboard and luge trucks. The Randal bushings seem to feel the best at speed. For speedboard I use the black standard bottom bushing with a bottom R2 150 bushing on top. For a three-truck luge setup, I use all black barrel bushings with one blue in the back bottom bushing position.
RJ..I have put the harder bushing on the bottom for years. I'm not sure what change you would feel if you switched it up. My top and bottom bushings are usually fairly close in hardness, so it might not make much of a change. It's easy to try it both ways and see what you like. Let me know what you find out.

Hey Dave and John!
First goncratz to all the races you guys been on the podium. its inspiring. I saw this picture of a rogerbros speedboard with randal DH baseplates and the front truck angeled. I like the idea of the front truck more turny but isnt it the same just to put r-2 50degree baesplate? me myself run luge 205 trucks with 50 degree in the front and 35degree in the back that im trying out at the moment beacause somehow the 35degree in the back give me more grip thure corners.
Anyway is their any chance to race you and your brother in the near future in Europe or should i try to make some money and come over and race you guys in the states:)?
would be good fun. take care / snake sweden

Hey Dave, I've got another question about bushings:
Do you want the bottom barrel bushing to be softer? Or the Top cone bushing to be the softer of the two?
Earlier this week Andrew was telling me it was one of them, but I can't remember which.

Fredrik...I would say yes. I'm not a fan of the big wheels. I think they are slower in most all racing situations. If you are getting beat by someone on "big" wheels, it's not the wheels making the difference...it's the rider.

Hey Joe! I got the TUCK DVD....thanks!!
You really packed a lot of cool footage on there. I wish I could skate Indian School today!! It was cool to see some of the "old school" EDI racing with Golter, Hardwick, Biker and others. I really liked Palmer's high jump and his run at the Bear. Palmer just rips and always looks super smoooooth!! Of course the 2004 Sandia DH footage is my favorite! Finishing in front of top riders like my bro, Chaput, JimZ, Aki, Brunson, Freeman and Flindt was a great day for me...definitely a highlight of all my races on a skateboard!! Good job on the DVD and thanks for all you do for skateboarding! I'm looking forward to the next time I get to skate with you guys!

Isabelle's DH board

Isabelle...the DH truck (160mm x 35 degree) is made for speed and starts to work really well above 30mph or so. The low steering angle makes for a really slow turn at cruising and lower carving speeds. You can tune them a bit with softer bushings if the stock ones are too stiff for you. Another option is to run the 180 hanger on the 35 degree DH base. The 180 hanger won't restrict the turning as much as the DH hanger. If you still want more turn, put a 50 degree RII base in front and the 35 degree DH baseplate in the back. Some racers go for the RII 50 degree geometry front and back because they like the quicker turning action. Try a few different combinations to see what you like. See you on the hill!

DH set-up

dave, i'm setting up a DH board and i need advice on how to get the RandalII to be more carving - i'm only 130 pounds or so and want a little movement. I've riden the Randal 180's on my Gravity hypercarve at 45+mph and and feel like home on them. the advice i'm getting is "ride the RIIs on a DH board", but the trucks only go straight for me. I couldn't get them to turn at all!? I like to carve a bit into all my runs, even at high speeds, not tuck and bomb. is it possible to get more turn by altering bushing for my smaller weight or .....should i stay in my comfort-zone and ride my 180's on a DH board? with little time to test/adjust equipment, lots of rain to think things through.....hehehe thanks dude

Jay, I had the same problem, but I weigh about a hundred pounds so getting DH's to turn is way hard! What I did was put my yellow randal bushings(off 180's) with a 180mm hanger (to fit the bushings better) with my DH baseplate. In your case I would do the exact same, but with the red bushings. please tell me what you think if you try it!

I use the Khiro yellow bushings, with a conical outer and a barrell inner... They feel really turny yet stable at speed, and because they're not *super* hard, you can compress them nicely so there's no flop (or need to loosen them for slower speeds).
Another thing about the dh trucks is if they're not turning well, you're not going fast enough. Get used to them, go faster, and they'll wake up for you.
