Here is a short clip of me riding my fav hill on my new foamcore carbon and kevlar board. Im really stoked with how well the Kevlar takes the twichness out of the carbon.

My riding is getting a bit better and im doing a solid 60k and getting up to the early 70km (headwind and a few cars...)

Any tips from the pros? any one want a new rider for there team?!

I was wondering wtf happened to you, but sounds like things are going very well, congrats. Last time we hung out, we were crying from laughing in the back of Chaput's rental van watch Darryl jam toothpicks into John's head. Remeber how pissed he got? Good times, hope we can meet up again soon. Darryl live in Hawaii also, you should try and get a hold of him. Cheers mate! DC

Teutonia and Floripa!
On 4/14/2007 Cliff Coleman wrote in from United States  (71.138.nnn.nnn)

Dave,

If you travel to Brazil with me, you will visit Sergio and have him as our guide while in Brazil. This is a very good thing to have while there! Florionopolis is awesome and we will show you the place. Then we would drive to the race site for the event. Later we could go back to Floripa and relax before the return flight. I'll be at this year's Danger Bay. Will you? If so, we can discuss this Brazil possibility more.

Cliff

Hey Cliff..I'm hoping to make Teutonia this year. That hill looks like fun and I hear they are planning something "special" this year. Getting there a little early and leaving a bit late would be nice. I don't have any concrete dates or tickets yet. Looking for travel partners? Lets talk. I just checked some pics of Florinopolis. WOW!

AJ's questions
On 4/12/2007 David Rogers wrote in from United States  (66.14.nnn.nnn)

For the Randal luge trucks, try emailing Randal directly or talk with Tim Cayer from IRS sports (you are on the east coast?? right?) I think he is "the" east cost connection for Randal stuff.

For the plastic knee caps, Timeship is a good source or try Socalskateshop.com
You can get white caps (Prodesigned) and Black from socalskateshops.com

You might find that they stay on better if you trim them a bit. Getting the velcro to stick to the inside of caps can be a pain. You can also put them on with elastic straps like you do a regular kneepads.

Good choice with the NJKs!!

Will you be in Brazil for the Teutonia in October? I'm planning on making the trip and going a little early to hang out on the island of Florinopolis with Sergio for some time before the race. Just wondered what you plans are.

AJ, you can order hard plastic knee caps from timeship racing. www.timeshipracing.com click on products, then click on safety gear. they come with the velco needed to put them on your leathers.

NJK knee pads
On 4/5/2007 AJ wrote in from Canada  (70.52.nnn.nnn)

I've ordered a custom made suit from kelcey and he told me that
the knee-pads are built-in to the suit, but what about the shell?
or knee cap? the piece of high-density plastic that usually uses up from sliding on asphault at 80+km/h
how do you put them on, velcro?
where do you purchase your usual knee shells?

Randal floaters
On 4/3/2007 DC wrote in from United States  (207.200.nnn.nnn)

For what it's worth,
I got a set about 5 and a half years ago and I still ride them. I've tried other stuff but they're just really basic and to me, they make "speedboard" just feel like a regular skateboard. Dave, did you see pics of my race? It was a lot of fun. You'll have to try to make it next time.

4fight
On 3/29/2007 David Rogers wrote in from United States  (66.14.nnn.nnn)

Thanks for making that clear Martin. It looks like Icaro only uses polycarbonate for the shells of the Skyrider helmets.

I thought that my 4fight had a plastic shell since it is so much more flexible than my Skyrunner and lacking any stress cracks in the finish coat. I took the tail cover off to peek inside and saw evidence of the fiber construction.

My 4fight has yet to get any stress cracks in the finish and it is one of the first produced in 2002. The gel/epoxy finish coat on my Skyrunner (2000/2001) has lots of small cracks around the visor opening and near the chinstrap mounts. Different manufacturing techniques must account for the different characteristics of the shells.

Why CompII ?
On 3/29/2007 David Rogers wrote in from United States  (66.14.nnn.nnn)

The CompII and the Luge truck are the best trucks that Randal has made to date. They turn better than DHs, are stronger than DH's, are wider than DH's, the hangers can be flipped like the R2's for "stable" or "turny" ride.

My Comps are 8+ years old and I'm still running the original axles. Mine came with grade8 kingpins installed the right way. The extra bearings don't make them any faster in my opinion. Maintenance is easy if you can hold a stubby screwdriver and a skate key at the same time.

The wider (205mm) Luge hanger is typically used with a 50 or 60 degree base for luge and buttboard setups. Some riders use the Luge hanger for speedboarding. I like the 170 CompII on the 35 degree bases for speedboarding.

The trucks are a bargain at the $70 to $100 that Randal has sold them for. I'm sure those trucks are not a money maker at that price and probably a good reason why they are becoming "rare". Buy some if you can.

Randal comp luge trucks
On 3/29/2007 Race X wrote in from United States  (64.115.nnn.nnn)

Randal comps, luge trucks...yeah....cant afford them, so I have 3 sets of
Randal 180mm instead.
The Comp trucks have the integrated bearings in the trucks themselves, so I assume less friction on the internal bearings in the wheels would allow for a little faster/stable speed, weight is distributed differently than conventional trucks? That bearing thing has to do something to the speed?
Now that they dont make them anymore...the $100 ea price will go up I'm sure....whatever, I passed guy's using them anyway, so must rider preference. Dont break the bank if you dont have to.
