Skogging Backwards
On 4/3/2008 Chris Yandall wrote in from United States  (66.91.nnn.nnn)

OK, to continue the skogging research in movement cuz I'm so bloody creative recently :)

I have a technique I'll be video'ing soon showing how to skog backwards. You've seen rollerskaters skate backwards, well I've gotten the technique down. :)

What's cool about skogging backwards, you get even muscle use that you can't facing forward! makes sense?

My deepest sympathy goes out to Chris Yandall & his extended family.
His sister-in-law, Sheri, passed away on March 13th from ALS. (Lou Gehrig's disease)

herbN deck
On 2/20/2008 Chris Yandall wrote in from United States  (66.91.nnn.nnn)

the axe as it is for my style of mixing a good workout including a pump and sidewalk surfing 12 blocks downhill and up makes my favorite skog du jour when I want to go FAST. When I want to cruise and make arcing turns while switching and adding a dance step here and there, I go at a slower pace and use my GALAC deck.

FEB 20, 2008

just some gentle movements to exhibit the foot movement at slower speeds.

check out how my feet work the axe. plenty of room, eh?

long distance skog
On 2/19/2008 herbn wrote in from United States  (67.83.nnn.nnn)

Like skogging to work(skateshop)i've considered it and taking the longway(12 miles or so) is actually more interesting. I'm considering an "ultimate" skog vehicle for this purpose. "Ultimate" as the quotations indicate is a relative term and open to many interpretations,my particular interpretation is not so much as a grooving way to jog,but more purpose driven and efficient, something maybe an inch off the ground with fast effiecent wheels in the 80mm range, the sides of the board would definitely drag a bit in sharp turns, perhaps allowing for very spontaneous standing skid/slide stops.

HerbN - my routes
On 2/18/2008 Chris Yandall wrote in from United States  (66.91.nnn.nnn)

Ok, you are looking at about 4 square mile area here. From crystal pier in PB to the jetty is about 2.5 miles. Do 10 laps and you got a good 20 miler plus exercise. I like the ocean side since there are less cracks. I hate cracks!

It's my favorite stretch. right off the water area and with lots of areas to relax at if need be and picture post cards days even when it's about ready to rain :)

so take a good look at this map. i have a great area of people digging my skating antics and getting people to see it for what it is, is my goal while skogging for exercise. i guess in order to really enjoy it, you got to see the moves. it's more than just alternating legs now. it's turning into a funky gangster lean promenade while shaking down the crown of cooking up moves while getting lean mean exercise.

averaging between 9-12mph and hitting peaks close to 20mph when the spirit leads me. and it's not really how much ground is getting covered but the moves within each stroke of the foot towards that gyroscopic carve while transitioning from one leg to the other.

skiig and skating
On 2/18/2008 herbn wrote in from United States  (71.255.nnn.nnn)

i got in a tiny bit of skiing ,"back in the day" high school trips to "vernon valley" which did have a little skatepark (supposedly designed by bobby piercy)it was right back in the ol days shortly after picking up the very basics,i was freaking everybody out by doing berts i even know the slope, i see it whenever i ride my dh bike at diablo(their summer name) there's this giant slope that get's real steep on the rightside going down. So you're doing 5 to 6 hr's a day skogging, whew how large an area are you skogging on,town to town, or back and forth in the same small area?

Custom Skogging Deck a la cYa
On 2/17/2008 Chris Yandall wrote in from United States  (66.91.nnn.nnn)

Right now I'm doing custom decks that run about 299.00 complete. The board doesn't make much sense unless it's totally set up to my style. which is cranking strong quick turns while transitioning from leg to leg. I don't go too long cuz weight and turning arc are key. I don't go to short or narrow cuz I like to fancy footwork the surface area while transitioning from leg to leg.

I'm a Bennett fan. While the modifications I make don't really fit into Mr. Bennett's ultimate design, I do find them one of the best turning RELIABLE trucks I'm using to piss of the little skateboarding twits on the San Diego boardwalks with my crazed circus antics while getting some serious exercise.

I do gumballs, gators, orginals, trackers, axes, gessmers, and a bunch of different setups for the ever expanding flats expanses.

My goal is to provide to niche skaters, alternate skating techniques that turn your skateboard into a full-on gym. You don't need no stinking gym! (sorry kitty kat) .

But right now, I'm in no hurry to get board stuff out as I'm still doing heavy R&D on the movement itself.

I do have plans on a production deck which will feature the overall design which will be a fun shape for those discovering the heart of skogging. but my main thrust is to just do custom high quality and visually appealing as well as distinctive decks.

This SPRING!

I'm not into really mass marketing this stuff but if it takes off, so be it! The key is, I'm still skating and skating up a storm and I do have strong preferences for my style in the ride I choose to rip up the cement as often as I can.

gigglin the skigging
On 2/17/2008 Chris Yandall wrote in from United States  (66.91.nnn.nnn)

Hey HerbN

Never knew you were such a card on this list :)

i telemarked for a while. x-cross skiing was pretty gay back in my skiing days in michigan. i downhilled ice for many seasons and by the time i got to real snow in colorado, i could rip anything in site. telemarking wasn't that attractive but the work ethic is not much different ...

this weekend I skated over 100 miles around the beach areas. cruising from self-generated speeds! 9-12mph and hitting terminal velocity near 20mph :) Nice tail wind while having a segway gauge my speed.

needless, i'm sore as s#@!!

cheers mate

On 2/16/2008 Chris Yandall wrote in from United States  (66.91.nnn.nnn)

Hey DT, good to hear your into movement. I'm just your average skater joe. nothing special other than I like to bomb hills too but make turns. I'm the bump skiier and prefer not to let my shaped skii's wander too fast on the flats. so downhill, there I am ...making turns and feel the g's.

between jumpin out of planes and working rush hour traffic on my crotch rocket, i get plenty of speed thrills too.

now sure where you are from but let me know, and see if we can at least cross paths at a contest or something.

In regards to your invitation. I would love to give it a go, its always fun to try new things on a skate. I mostly like to go fast wether its on a hill, pool, or ditch but I am game. I dont think it will be that much of a killer work out for me, but i have been wrong choke times before. I am more into triathlons, hiking, jumprope, and mui thai when I am focused on losing weight.
