The Rush 2011 - Results
On 6/29/2011 RobA wrote in from United Kingdom  (86.173.nnn.nnn)

A great weekends racing under the hot English sun, a big thanks to all - especially Glen at Modified Live and to Motor Sports Vision and Brands Hatch for hosting us. Thanks to our sponsors Octane Sport, Glastonbury Ales, Dan Gesmer and Seismic for the spreadsheet and to Tim and the Brands Hatch Marshal crew.
Great to see so many great names of the British racing scene back on the hill at Brands, highlight of the weekend for me was seeing Edwin get into the A group round of 8 - amazing skating, look out folks he's back!

Full race report on http://www.ukslalomskateboarding.org.uk/ coming soon!

2011 Race Calendar
On 3/10/2011 RobA wrote in from United Kingdom  (81.151.nnn.nnn)

Unfortunately we have a bit of a "log jam" of races at the end of June - begining of July this is due to these races being part of another event whose dates are set in concrete. Although NASS has been straight after Turn or Burn for two years now.

So far the 2011 race calendar looks like this:

June 11/12 - "Open Season" Slalom and Freeride, Hog Hill, Redbridge Cycling Centre

June 25/26 – The Rush 2011, Brands Hatch

July 2/3 – Turn or Burn @ Paddle Round the Pier, Brighton

July 9/10 - NASS 2011 – Glastonbury Ales/Love Monkey Open Slalom Championships, Royal Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet, Somerset

6/7 August – British Open Slalom Championships, Hill, Redbridge Cycling Centre

Please make a note of these dates now.

That's not to say there isn't room for more races so if anyone else wants to stage a race of any kind please get in touch

Cheers

The Rush 2011
On 2/16/2011 RobA wrote in from United Kingdom  (86.173.nnn.nnn)

After many months of time, effort and lengthy discussions with the Motor Sports Vision track management team it gives me great pleasure in announcing our return to one of the countries original and finest slalom locations – the much revered Brands Hatch GP motor racing circuit in Kent, situated just 20 miles outside London.

The Rush 2011 takes place over the weekend of 25th/26th June as part the Time Attack weekend (see http://www.timeattack.co.uk/ for details) which takes place on the Indy Circuit. Highlights of this event include the smoking tyres of the European Drift Championship and the Time Attack Series - a 'beat the clock' challenge for highly tuned road cars. There will also be demo laps from 1000bhp race trucks, stunt motorcycles and fiery Santa Pod drag cars - to name but a few.
While all that is going on we will be racing on Hawthorn Hill by the bridge on the GP circuit. As has almost become the norm at the last few Hog Hill races I am also opening this event up to our cousins at London Longboards. This helps spread the cost of the event as well as giving those that have not experienced the thrill of racing at Brands Hatch before an ideal opportunity to do just that.

Here’s a shot from 2005 showing Hawthorn Hill (courtesy of Mike John)

Longboarders and Downhillers will also be able to bomb our hill in the breaks between races. We were offered a very gnarly, fairly steep spot near the Indy Circuit in the Lower Paddock, the surface is a bit rough but should be OK for soft wheels (say 78A or 80A) I will speak to the organisers again and confirm that it is still OK for Longboarders to use.

Camping is available to us on Saturday night at a cost of £15 per head; the organisers are trying to find us our own spot near our race site rather than in the main “petrol-heads” campsite over the other side of the track. As with all weekend events at Brands there will be a host of entertainment laid on for one and all on Saturday night including stalls, music, live bands and of course licensed bars!

As this is the first event of this nature I am conscious that we manage expectations, so rather than try to cram too much in over the weekend I want to keep things simple. Therefore we will be running an Open Race format with a dual hybrid on Saturday and a GS on the Sunday.
On Saturday evening after racing has finished on the Indy Circuit (at around 6pm) we have been invited to put on some demo races for the Time Attack spectators in the grandstands using Paddock Hill Bend. The format for these will be decided on nearer the time.

If this all goes well and the Time Attack guys like what they see they have said that we will be invited back to future events.

Sign up for the event will be via the NCDSA Contest Calendar and will be set up and announced shortly, please be patient!
Important: payment must be made when you sign up, your entry will not be confirmed until we receive payment.
Sign Up will close on 31st May 2011 as I have to provide a list of confirmed riders to the main organisers three weeks before the event and once sign up closes it will not be possible to make any changes to the entry list.

Entry fees:
All Weekend - £35 (incl.camping)
One day - £15.00
These rates apply to racers only – see below.

Unfortunately due to the nature of the event non-participating friends and family wishing to spectate will have to pay the normal Time Attack admission fees – see their website for details on reduced price advance tickets.

For those not wishing to camp there are a number of hotels nearby however these tend to get booked up soon after race events at Brands Hatch are announced.

Directions and more information on Brands Hatch can be found here: http://www.motorsportvision.co.uk/brands-hatch/circuits/brands-hatch.asp along with details of nearby hotels.

X in the City Cancelled
On 1/23/2011 RobA wrote in from United Kingdom  (81.159.nnn.nnn)

Unfortunately this competition will not now go ahead. The event organiser realised that in order to make it work to the best of his capacity, there would have to be much more preparation given the volume of different sports organisations and styles of display involved. The April revised date has therefore been cancelled.

The organiser had done all he could to raise additional capital and support but it seems that unless you have the financial clout and backing of a major energy drinks company then your event will struggle to take place.

Thank you to all those who showed interest and supported the event in its infancy, unfortunately one to chalk up to experience.

X in the City: 22-24th October 2010
On 9/22/2010 roba wrote in from (86.173.nnn.nnn)

Well the weather couldn't stop it but due to circumstances beyond our control the X in the City event has now been postponed until April 2011 and therefore so has our race. It appears that the show was getting bigger and bigger to the point where the infrastruture was too small to deliver this world class event.Obviously I am very disappointed especially after all of the enthusiasm and encouragement received from so many great racers around the world. We will endeavour to make this event bigger and better when it takes place next year.Thank you to all of you who have shown your support in this eventThis postponement will of course give some of our cousins across the pond plenty of time to start planning ahead :o)We are considering our options regarding staging an outlaw race in London on the weekend 23rd & 24th October instead. Hi Tony,Unluckily I have a family bash on the same weekend as Amsterdam, so cannot go. There are, however, a few of the London tribe that have muttered about heading out. Rob Ashby speaks a bit of Dutch (his real name is Lars van der Valk)and likes to practice his old tongue. Ella is now of an age where Amsterdam is nirvanah and old folks can get lost, so is thinking about it too. This means that her personal wallet holder and dad Mick Reiss will be going. Throw Louis Selby, Michael Stride and very possibly Paul Price into the mix with your good self and you have Team England.Amsterdam is not far away. Everyone should try to make it if they can!

Who is heading for Amsterdam? I'm looking to join the UK Foreign Legion for the first time and have convinced the wife that a mini break in Amsterdam would be a romantic escapade! Has anyone booked flights or accommodation yet? The venue looks quite a long way out of the centre so I was going to book something in the centre and commute out on raceday. Any tips or recomendations would be appreciated. I know we will probably see Ernst & Bart at Hog Hill but figured to book now before the flights get more expensive.Tony (PC)
