Since getting back into skateboarding I've done alot of shopping and asking questions online and within 6 months have probably spent around $600.00 on skateboarding equipment and I plan to spend more. I've had some nice experiences and have dealt with some super cool people. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't say, I've had any really bad experiences other than some stickers I got on ebay that took like 3 weeks to arrive. I have however dealt with alot of incompetence and just a plain lack of professionalism. Is this common in the Business world of Skateboarding? Not replying to legitimate questions about products? Throwing up half assed web sites that are barely functional? I bought a deck at one place and they didn't even have grip tape wide enough to apply to the deck. I called the number of another place and the guy answered his cell phone as he was driving down the road. All I can say to anyone new or experienced to online shopping, is, check it out, ask alot of questions and if they don't reply...don't buy. Also, make sure you check prices and shipping costs. The price differences on some items can span $20 or more. People on ebay are notorious for over charging on shipping. Anyone else have any experiences like this? Like I said, it isn't all bad. Just be careful.

It seems silly to post yet another glowing review of Purple Skunk in SF, but I guess I will. I went to them twice for several hours, trying out at least ten different decks, three types of trucks, and three sets of wheels. They were only too happy to switch all of the stuff around so I could try out virtually any combination of decks, trucks, and wheels. Throughout all of this they were extremely friendly and patient with all my questions (of which I had a lot) and never pressured me to buy a board. Lizzie and Eli were very helpful, filling me in about the basics of longboarding (since I'm new to it) and Eli even gave me a quick basic demonstration on how to slide (not that I am able to do it, but at least I have an idea of how it's done now).
Basically, if you want to have a huge selection of board, be able to try out new gear before buying, get awesome service, get advice/information, or just chat about skating in general - Purple Skunk is the place for you. In particular, I recommend this to anyone who is looking to get into skateboard/longboarding... but isn't sure about what to buy or get as they have no clue like me.

...and I like it. Looking at the various posts in this forum praising PS, I can't help but feel lucky, because I can skate there in five minutes from where I live! What can I say that hasn't already been said? Tons of demos, mountains of knowledge and experience and personalized service with a smile. It's so easy to lose half a day just hanging out, skating demos and talking boards, spicy food, beer, etc... Today, for the price of some griptape, Lizzie and Eli gave my new board (purchased from the board maker, not PS) a sweet pinstripe/flame grip job. This was Lizzies first foray into grip tape art! I can't prove it, but I'm pretty sure this added about 3-4mph to the boards top speed. I'll try to have a lab verify this.In the meantime, go to the website or go to the shop...either way you will leave with a smile on your face. Keep up the great work guys!

Browsing the Internet looking for a new longskate, I just found www.purpleskunk.com through the G&S website. I bought a complete longboard (Fibreflex 44" pintail, abec 7, 3dm Avila, Randal II 180mm) and a Fibreflex 44" pintail deck. As I live outside the US (France), I was a bit afraid at first.... But the purple skunk team eased everything and thanks to them, I can now ride this great longskate. So, if you're looking for the best skateshop, do not hesitate and visit www.purpleskunk.com

I just wanted to thank Eric at Palermo Longboards for being so helpful. He set me up with my new loaded Fish board and it Kicks Ass.
Eric's brother set me up with my loaded Vanguard about a year ago from that day on until the Fish came yesterday it was the only board in my quiver that I ever wanted to ride.
Thanks to Don at loaded for making such great boards I don't really know why anyone rides anything else. The flex is perfect and basically its the most fluid ride I ever had.
Thanks to all three of these guys for setting me up with skaters in NYC and for helping me out with my sliding technique.
For unsurpassed service check out palermolongboards.com For unsurpassed quality and basically just for a great ride check out loadedboards.com
Thanks again guys

This being my very first board I didn't know how to setup the speedrings/bushings/etc. Rodney took the time to help me put it all together. I would most def. recommend this store to anyone looking for a good skate shop in the Bay Area. Chalk 1 more for Purple Skunk. I'll be coming back for sure!

I went to San Francisco for a couple of days on vacation, I have been longboarding for a while now and was looking for a new board. I heard about this shop on the internet and we went there, the first thing i noticed was the amount of decks, wheels, trucks and other goods they had. They were really nice and helped me a lot in choosing a new board. We spent a lot of time there talking with them and i even got hooked up with tons of free stuff, thanks guys!

last month i ordered a complete longboard from switzerland at purpleskunk.com. some guy over here recommended them to me, said they'd be way cheaper than the shops here in switzerland. they are. even if you add the postage tax to europe. the parcel arrived after ca. 10 days, the board already assembled and in perfect condition. really huge parcel in fact. of course, the purpleskunk crew answered all my email questions really quickly. however, they could update their website a bit, maybe there'll be less questions for foreign customers then and less work for them to do. anyway, interesting shopping experience. too bad i sprained my ankle quite badly the second day after i got the board, so no skating for the next few weeks :-(

If any Skate Shops here can help it would be a service to the on line community.
Bearings are needed for a bearing review/test being conducted by Hugh R. of Hugh R's Skate Page(author of the original Bearing Wars).
If any vendors here can contribute in any way it would be cool.
The event is going to be called BEARING WARS 2 - CERAMIC SHOWDOWN.
On board for the event so far are:
Ed's Pleasure Tool Ceramic Bearings (contributed by PLEASURE TOOL)
Bones Swiss Ceramic Bearings (contributed by WWW.SKATEONE.COM)
and Concrete Wave Magazine is going to run an article about the event.
So, if any one can help or if you know some one who can help please contact Hugh R. over at the Bearing Review forum on this site.
Thank You

Just posting here to give credit where credit is due!!! A frugal bastard like me one day woke up and decided that I wanted to relive the years of my youth and build me the ultimate 80' -- 90's pool board of my dreams. Even though my youthful side decided to build my own board from the ground up; my penny-wise and frugal adult side decided to do some online searching for the supplies I needed to build the board of my dreams. I cruised the various auction sites & online stores to find that though many of them seemed to have low prices to bait a buyer with, they would hit a potential buyer with various ridiculous charges which would make item not much better, if any better, than the over priced shops in my neighborhood. Sometimes even more!!! After much online research and thinking, I decided that the online vendors I would give my business to would have to meet certain criteria. A Good Price + Honest Shipping & Misc. Costs + Great Level of Service + Good Communication & Contact = MY IDEAL ONLINE SHOP, not to mention a great supplier of Old School stuff, in addition to the new, to work with!!! I have searched high and low for the best prices, service and a place I could trust to do my online shopping for skateboard gear and have come to one conclusion. 3 words: "PURPLE SKUNK SKATES!!!" Lizzie and The Purple Skunk Skate Team answered an onslaught of questions I asked them via email and they were very patient. Not only that, I felt confident in the fact that they had various means of contacting them besides an email address or "Contact Us" button!!! When I ordered from them, It was almost like a "Wile E. Coyote cartoon," when you see him ordering something from ACME and it's right at his door in no time. I ordered and in a matter of a few days it was at my door. My order was there quicker than I expected that I literally almost tripped on it waking out my door...LOL!!! Thanks to Purple Skunk Skates, my dream, old school pool board will be done in no time once I'm done cutting, sanding down, and painting my deck. They may be called Purple Skunk, but their service and prices don't stink!!! (Hey, that could be a great store slogan... Well, maybe not...LOL!!!) :oD Anyways, I highly recommend this vendor and will definitely order form them again!!!
